Pelosi 2007: Hey, I’m happy to fly commercial

posted at 5:55 pm on March 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

Huh. On the one hand, we’ve got a string of recently uncovered e-mails dating to 2007 describing her staff’s whining that military craft aren’t at her beck and call, and on the other we’ve got this archival pro forma denial from Madam Speaker herself. I wonder whom we should believe. She certainly sounds sincere.

Make sure you read down to the end to see what she wanted just to avoid an extra 90 minutes of driving time. Click the image to watch.

Well, in her defense that drive from SFO to Travis is a bitch–at least ’til you get to the Carquinez Bridge, anyway. But you know? I’d have to do it if it were me (except that I’d have to drive all the way to Elk Grove), so why not her? Or fly commercial and land at SMF like the rest of us peons do.

Not feelin’ much sympathy here.

“we didn’t ask for a plane….it’s a ride…it’s a ride on a plane”.

Wow, I’m glad she cleared that up. For a while there, I was thinking she was asking for, you know, like a brand new plane for every time she flew back to CA. But, hey, a “ride” on a plane…what’s the fuss all about here?

Seems to me if Jim Wright and Newt Gingrich could be forced out for whatever, “fly as I say and not as I fly” peon citizens! , as Michelle Malkin writes today, should be sauce for this goose. Stick your global warming where the sun don’t shine.

Don’t think people don’t go through an evolution of power corruption getting worse. The Nancy Pelosi who was treading lightly in 2006 and giving BS about bipartisanship is not the Nancy Pelosi who has 2 years plus as Speaker and a large majority now.

She was such a big supporter of Obama because of why? His 2 years in the SENATE made them close? No she saw that Obama was no Hillary on letting her have her way. She might as well have won the election and even better as House Speaker she controls a lot more details for these domestic bills without the headaches of Foriegn Policy. Can’t we all see that now? Human nature would tell you she thinks she is the Queen of America now and don’t think her ego isn’t telling her how she needs to be treated. Comparing 2009 Pelosi to any other version is moot.

carbon_footprint on March 11, 2009 at 6:23 PM

I’m not sure about FactCheck.org.

They have their sources listed at the bottom of the article though and it seems legitimate.

The problem is that the ‘debunking’ of the bigger plane issue is based solely on the House Sergeant at Arms saying that he had been the one that made the request for the larger plane for security reasons. However, the emails that these guys got through Freedom of Information Act have instances where it is members of her staff requesting the larger plane and telling the DoD that she’ll be unhappy if they’re not available.

The documents also detail correspondence from intermediaries for Speaker Pelosi issuing demands for certain aircraft and expressing outrage when requested military planes were not available. “It is my understanding there are no G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable…The speaker will want to know where the planes are…” wrote Kay King, Director of the House Office of Interparliamentary Affairs. In a separate email, when told a certain type of aircraft would not be available, King writes, “This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset [s]peaker.”

One big issue is that she seems to think flying a plane is as simple as driving a car. Why, you must just get to the airport, walk out to the plane, get in the cockpit and then take off! Flight plan? Never heard of them. Pre-flight check? What’s that?

strictnein on March 11, 2009 at 7:40 PM

Way back in the ’70s, Brand-if (Braniff, a local Oklahoma airline) had a well kept B707 non stop to Tulsa and OKC. I often had a chance to take this plane back, leaving about 5pm on Friday nights. Invaribly, we had our local congressmen and senators, with their familys, and they made a point of visiting with the passengers. I know they didn’t travel free or on tax payers money. The political party didn’t matter, nor whether the pol’s elevator went to the top floor. Everything was in good spitit and I’m sure the pols got a lot of valuable input and votes. They were all nice guys.

This would do the whore of San Francisco well, except she is in so deep with her narcissistic constituents she doesn’t need to schmooze.

We need a constitutional amendment based on the ancient Greek ostrikos. Every year, a card is sent out to each and everyone in the United States with one line on it. On that line the resident would place one name. The two top name getters would be removed from the territory of the United States for one year, sans all funds and assets. This, like a motion to adjourn, would be not debatable nor amendable. If they were in a constitutional national office (POTUS of VEEP) the sentence would be deferred until the expitation of the current term.
