Public opposes second stimulus this year by two-to-one margin

Like Obama or congress really give a damn what any of us think.

There was a report of Fox last night that Obama’s people actually thought of using a teleprompter that they could use during press conferences that they could type answers to questions on so he could use it to answer questions. In other words someone else would be answering questions for the empty suit.

I believe that White House aides recently stated that they were exploring mounting a monitor within the podium for press conferences for just that purpose.

Jeebus. And the lefties were claiming that Bush was a doofus who couldn’t string two sentences together without help from an aide.

It’s going to be a long 7 years and 10 months……

I think this will play out just like the last stimulus bill. The polls will all be against it so Obama will address the nation about how great it is and the next day 80% will support it. And this is how it will go for every piece of Obama’s legislation that doesn’t have popular support.

That’s why he’s president.

Not to mention the fact that someone (or group) took $500 billion out of banks, almost overnight, which caused the panic in the first place. Why no investigation into that is simply astounding.

That was interesting. Showing my ignorance here, but what was it that motivated FDR if I may ask? Was he a fan of communism or something, or maybe just a guilty patrician, or perhaps wanted to be a cult figure?

FDR was very sympathetic to the siren song of communism/socialism, as were many, probably most, of his contemporaries in the face of the Great Depression.

Very similar to the situation we face today with Obama and
the current economic crisis.

Going that route was a mistake then and it would be a mistake now, but it looks like Obama and the Democrats are going to do it. Bigtime. Again.

The only difference is that FDR could conceivably be excused for naive ignorance of the consequences, as opposed to Obama and the Democrats, who should be held responsible for having the benefit of nearly a century of consistantly failed communist/socialist experiments.

But saying so right now is like a voice in the wilderness.

Meanwhile, in a far away land, a bearded man in a turban is looking at US (of A) and laughing his you know what off (even more so knowing that he does not even have to do anything)!!!

We could have 15% unemployment in 2012 and yet the MSM will say that without THE ONE it would be 25% so we should be greatfull and vote for him again. And since most Americans are idiots, they will march in lock step with Katie Couric and Chris Matthews and pull the lever for Obama.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American public.

In March 1933 FDR faced something like 20% unemployment and 30% foreclosure rate on mortgages which was causing the banking system to collapse. Keynesian theory had not been tested yet. FDR tried the New Deal as an experiment to save capitalism.

Some of the New Deal was good. Federal Deposit Insurance, the Securities Act and the Securities Exchange Act built the best regulated and therefore most liquid and deepest capital markets in the world. The busy work programs like the WPA and the TVA failed, mostly because government borrowing to increase aggregate demand had the unintended consequence of squeezing out private companies wanting to raise capital for themselves. Protectionism did not help either.

I don’t fault Roosevelt too much though; he was using the tools he had without experience to know what would work. Now we have the experience to know Keynesian policies are pretty ineffective/counterproductive. Now it’s just an excuse to permanently expand the role of the federal government.
