What’s the use? The cabinet room is crowded enough with all of the special advisors and overseers. Unless we’re willing to vest in the drug czar the power to either hang all drug users a la Singapore (which, incidently has no drug problem), or to legalize all of it and let the chips fall where they may… then there is no reason to have a cabinet level position for a joker in charge of keeping a no win war going.

I don’t fault a parent or guardian for failing to keep their kids off drugs. For anyone who is a parent you realize that kids will do what they want. But that does not make the exercise futile. Even though it feels like a no win war, if we where to just throw our hands in the air and give up we could easily slip into a Mexico like situation.

One can debate whether drug czars are effective and whether we should fight a “war on drugs” at all and to what extent, but the drug problems of Kerlikoske’s son should hardly prove a disqualification for this job.

Why doesn’t Kerlikowske become drug czar of his own family first? This reminds me of Eliot Spitzer cracking down on prostitution, and we know where THAT led…

It’s easy to see the motivation for demoting the drug czar to a sub-Cabinet-level position. It keeps the Senate from looking for skeletons in his closet.

Sadly you are right. Conservatives can only be ridiculed because they usually stand for something. If you have morals and values you set yourself up for failure. I know I fail almost everyday in some way because the person I want to be most like is not humanly possible. If you stand for nothing or set the bar so low than it no longer matters than who can point at you and call you a hypocrite?

My daughter lost her best friend to an illegal drug overdose 8 years ago. The 19 year old girl was given lots of drugs so her male “friends” could have sex with her.

As she went under they drove her around a while until she died. Then they left her lifeless body on the couch of her apartment and left.
