I bet these leaders are full of contempt for teh US and feel a invincibility by having been captured by the Great Satan and then have the Satan defeat itself by self-indulgent decadent legal mechanisms and let them go free.

These people are not just fighting a regular war against us… it’s also a spiritual one. And non-material considerations matter significantly

The Left gave Bush hell over this issue, and eventually won by denying the administration legal authority.

The Taliban’s new top operations officer in southern Afghanistan had been a prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, the latest example of a freed detainee who took a ~~militant~~ moderate leadership role and a potential complication for the Obama administration’s efforts to close the prison.

I am about halfway through “Inside Gitmo” by Gordon Cucullu and it is making my blood boil. A conspiracy of useful idiots in the MSM and legal profession have concocted a false mythology to deliberately discredit our mission there. What our service members who work there have had to deal with defies belief. Last night I read a bit of it before going to bed and was so angry I couldn’t sleep.

This is great! Obama wants to reach out to the Taliban. Now we have someone in power in the Taliban with whom we have already built a positive relationship. Obama should send Abdullah Ghulam Rasoul’s former interrogators from Gitmo to meet with him in Afghanistan. I’m sure they would work it all out. This could be the beginning of peace in our time!

He went through the Saudi rehabilitation program, and he said, he just wanted to go home, and live his life with his family yada yada yada…now who believes the Saudis are that naive?
No, I don’t either so basically the Saudis returned him to reek havoc on US and NATO in Afghanistan…if we hooked this guy up with some kind of chip to monitor him (GPS) when he reconnected with the remaining terrorist, that would make sense, follow him back to the Rat’s nest but it doesn’t look like that was our purpose to turn him loose to follow him back to his compatriots. Apparently he hasn’t been turned to spy for us either.
