Get ready for Operation Cantor
posted at 1:05 pm on March 10, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
The White House has decided that they’ve run out of distraction value with Rush Limbaugh and have a new target set for their attack machine. Politico reports that the Rahm Emanuel-David Axelrod Perpetual Campaign Squad has its sights set on Rep. Eric Cantor, the rising Republican star:
For all the focus on the king of conservative talk, Democrats may have found a more important villain in House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, a telegenic young Republican trying to bring life to his party on Capitol Hill.
As the Virginia Republican fights President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority on everything from spending to stem cells, the Democrats are racing to introduce him to voters before he can introduce himself.
- At last month’s White House summit on entitlement reform, Obama painted Cantor as a poster child for obstructionism. “I’m going to keep on talking to Eric Cantor,” the president said. “Someday, sooner or later, he’s going to say, ‘Boy, Obama had a good idea.’”
- In a Washington Post op-ed last week, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said Rush Limbaugh’s voice “could be heard in the words of new Republican quarterback Eric Cantor.”
- In robocalls aimed at potentially vulnerable Republicans in Michigan, Florida and California, union groups are urging voters to ask their representatives why they’re “following the ‘party of no’ and its Republican leader, Eric Cantor.”
- In a series of TV spots, Americans United for Change identified Cantor as one of the Republican leaders who have stood with Limbaugh and opposed Obama’s stimulus plan.
Maybe the Democrats should concern themselves with governing instead of campaigning. Instead of picking new faces for the White House Enemies List, maybe they should concentrate on finding people to work at Treasury. They seem more interested in demonizing opposition Republicans than in doing the basic vetting on their nominees to ensure ordinary tax compliance.
And by the way, where is the Grand Plan that Tim Geithner and Barack Obama promised? When can we expect Obama and his Gang That Couldn’t Gift Straight to do the jobs they were elected to do, rather than just plot the next campaign? Or is that above everyone’s pay grade?

Eventually these people are gonna have to grow the hell up and take responsibility for the job they have been given. I swear without MSM cooperation in their misinformation campaign, I think the Dems would be down to about 25-30 Senators and 150 Congressmen.

Not only that, they’re not even nice teenagers!
You would think that eventually the electorate will catch on that they are being asked to hate a different individual every week or two.
And that they will eventually decide that the problem isn’t really all these individuals they are supposed to hate, but the people who keep holding others up as “the enemy.”

What idiocy. The main advantage that Obama currently has is that there is no Republican leader. What he should be doing is attacking the Republilcans as leaderless, clueless, and rudderless.
“Can’t trust those Republicans- they have no plan”.
That would be the best attack, because it’s close enough to the truth that people might buy it.
Attacking Rush as the “leader of the Republican Party” only rallies the liberal faithful, but is pretty much harmless, because no one really believes Rush can be a political leader.
Attacking Cantor though is doomed to backfire, because the response of most people is going to be “Who?” And then as Obama’s plans continue to fail people will start saying to themselves: “I wonder what that Cantor guy thinks we should do that Obama is so opposed to- nothing Obama is doing is working, maybe we ought to give this Cantor guy a chance.”

You could be right, though the comparison I was going for was the nasty way that high school cliques treat those who are not members.
Parker and Stone of South Park fame were once asked why their main SP characters were little kids, and they said because kids of that age can be the meanest little creatures on earth.
Your comparison is apt: The Ogabe administration is more focused on petty vengeance and name-calling than in doing their homework.

Yes Ed, it is above their pay grade. Winning campaigns is what they do. Obama made it very clear that his intent is to fundamentally change America and that 4 years was not going to be long enough and even at one point said that 8 years might not be long enough.
We have now sitting in the CEO chair of the most powerful corporation on the planet a novice with a weak resume who is 46 years old and has never held an executive position .. how anyone who voted for him believed he was capable of doing the job they elected him to is beyond me. He reminds me so much of all those 20somethings fresh out of college with their degrees that I would interview for jobs in my company and expect that piece of paper qualified them for a high paid position when they had zero experience.
Unfortunately, with Obama there is no headhunter out there that will make him a better offer and we can get a go-over.

They really have no inkling of Economics 101. If you tax something, it shrinks. The White House declared open season on investments. Obama supporters get the concept of the capital gains tax to the extent that it was set t a certain level while Clinton was President. So, returning it to that level, in their weak logic, is going to magically transport the entire economy back to the 90s. Regardless of the FACT that raising taxes during a recession will cause a depression, and taxing pensions and 401ks, etc. while they are losing value steadily and have already lost 40% – 60% will cause a flight of capital.
This is what is driving the markets down, among other things. There is no way Obama and Treasury don’t know this. No one this incompetent should have been allowed anywhere near the White House.
It’s a good thing Cantor has stood up to this madness, and he can obstruct Obama’s exorbitant spending plans. Spending trillions will delay the natural market correction and recovery and prolong the pain.

Let’s not be too cruel to our little troll Tinkerbell as it flitters about the message boards, proclaiming its happiness at Citi profits. Remember, liberals have always been stalwart defenders of profits, quick to trumped them as positive news for the economy. I remember how they were overcome with joy when oil company profits were hitting record highs. If Citi’s proft statements today make them so happy, imagine how rhapsodic they must have been over those Big Oil profits, and how grateful they were to the President who made them happen! It’s no wonder that liberals are pleased with today’s rise in the Dow, a tiny step for Obama toward the economic success liberals have justly praised George Bush for all these years. And don’t you dare question whether they were happy about positive corporate earning reports over the last eight years, because to do so would be to imply people like getalife are drooling retards with the economic knowledge of a three-year-old child.
Let’s offer our trolls a warm welcome aboard the capitalist bandwagon. Now that they have fallen in love with profits, I’m sure we’ll find so much more common ground between us. After all, profit is income minus expenses, so the only way to increase profits is to either raise income, or lower expenses. Income is raised by increasing sales, which means our liberal friends are now in favor of de-regulation and tax breaks for capital improvement. Reducing expenses requires greater access to raw materials – have you got your “drill, baby, drill!” T-shirt yet, getalife? If not, drop by Sarah Palin’s website and order now!
You can also reduce the expenses on labor, which would require reduced taxes on payroll, fewer mandates on businesses, and reducing the influence of labor unions, whose sole organizational purpose is to inflate labor costs. The financial industry, hard-hit by laws Barney Frank and Chris Dodd implemented under Bill Clinton, can only increase profits by achieving higher rates of return on its loans, which means fewer mortgage defaults – be sure to call your congressperson and let them know you favor tightening up those lending laws, liberals!
Of course, sustained increases in profits will require new products and new markets. The only way to create new markets quickly is for the government to release them into the free market through privatization. Which government-run disaster of an “industry” do you want to see privatized first, getalife? I’m thinking education myself. If Citi provides the loans to build all those new private schools, its profits would skyrocket! You’d be so happy you would hardly be able to contain yourself! And you know which industry has the most consistent track record of increasing profits by researching new products? That’s right – Big Pharma! We can count on your help to oppose socialized medicine, right? After all, nobody would be making any profits from medicine if the government took it over!
Today is the first day of the rest of your life as a capitalist, getalife. Welcome aboard, my friend!
