A Pentagon review of conditions at the Guantanamo Bay military prison has concluded that the treatment of detainees meets the requirements of the Geneva Conventions but that prisoners in the highest-security camps should be allowed more religious and social interaction, according to a government official who has read the 85-page document.

Liberals can continue to twist themselves into a pretzel trying to blame terrorism on America and calling Gitmo a gulag.But the facts just don’t support this ignorant rhetoric.

been in Guantanamo. Nobody ever said that all the people in Gitmo were innocent, just that we should come up with a way of figuring out which are innocent and which are guilty.

Yes, hundreds of detainees involved in terrorist activities or caught on the battlefield doing everything they can to kill American Soldiers.

These detainees would have probably been dealt with if not
for the constant obstructions from organizations like the ACLU.

Even with the liberal savior Obama in charge,there appears to be a consensus to follow the Bush administration on many aspects in the War on Terror that liberals have whined about for years, including Gitmo:

Detainees being held at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan cannot use US courts to challenge their detention, the US says.

The justice department ruled that some 600 so-called enemy combatants at Bagram have no constitutional rights.

Bush was called a fascist destroying America’s reputation when these policies were outlined during his administration.
Nothing but compliance and support coming from liberals about this now that the occupant in the White House has a (D) beside his name.

Last week, CIA Director-designate appeared to argue that certain Al Qaeda detainees were too dangerous to stand trial — something that threw civil libertarians for a loop, given the recent executive orders from the Obama administration ordering the closure of Guantanamo Bay, the CIA’s secret prisons and a thorough review of future detention policy. Now it looks like Panetta has company. At her confirmation hearing yesterday, Elena Kagan, the administration’s nominee to be solicitor general, made a similar point, according to the Los Angeles Times:

Harvard Law Dean Elena Kagan, President Obama’s choice to represent his administration before the Supreme Court, told a key Republican senator Tuesday that she believed the government could hold suspected terrorists without trial as war prisoners.

Even positions held by Obama’s DOJ head himself fly in the face of the criticisms from liberals now that they are in charge:

Eric Holder (Barack Obama’s choice for Attorney General), on the question of whether unlawful combatants captured in the war on terror are entitled to prisoner-of-war status under the Geneva Convention. From an interview on CNN, January 2002:

One of the things we clearly want to do with these prisoners is to have an ability to interrogate them and find out what their future plans might be, where other cells are located; under the Geneva Convention that you are really limited in the amount of information that you can elicit from people.
It seems to me that given the way in which they have conducted themselves, however, that they are not, in fact, people entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention. They are not prisoners of war. If, for instance, Mohamed Atta had survived the attack on the World Trade Center, would we now be calling him a prisoner of war? I think not. Should Zacarias Moussaoui be called a prisoner of war? Again, I think not

The hypocrisy and selective outrage from liberals on this issue has left them with no credibility.The last thing that is going to work is the “Gitmo detainees are victims of the Bush regime” line.

Beginning in 2002, Nancy Pelosi and other key Democrats (as well as Republicans) on the House and Senate Intelligence Committees were thoroughly, and repeatedly, briefed on the CIA’s covert antiterror interrogation programs. They did nothing to stop such activities, when they weren’t fully sanctioning them. If they now decide the tactics they heard about then amount to abuse, then by their own logic they themselves are complicit. Let’s review the history the political class would prefer to forget.
