Quote of the day

posted at 10:32 pm on March 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

“I’m often criticized for not being a ‘real’ Republican, and I have been called a RINO—Republican In Name Only—in the past. Many say I am not ‘conservative enough,’ which is something that I am proud of. It is no secret that I disagree with many of the old-school Republican ways of thinking. One of the biggest issues from which I seem to drift from the party base is in my support of gay marriage. I am often criticized for previously voting for John Kerry and my support of stem-cell research. For the record, I am also extremely pro-military and a big supporter of the surge and the Iraq war.

More so than my ideological differences with Ann Coulter, I don’t like her demeanor. I have never been a person who was attracted to hate or negativity. I don’t believe in scare tactics and would never condone or encourage anyone calling President Obama a Muslim. But controversy sells and Coulter is nothing if not controversial. Everything about her is extreme: her voice, her interview tactics, and especially the public statements she makes about liberals. Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is sometimes like watching a train wreck.”

Isn’t it funny how when Obama throws anybody under the bus, he made the right decision, he’s moving on, we should all just move on past these distractions, etc.
But when an elected Republican says that Rush or Hannity or Coulter doesn’t speak for them, it’s all the sudden a civil war?
Then the media picks up on any has been like Frum or never was like M. McCain and that’s the story for weeks?

Meanwhile, is it too OT to mention that N.Korea is threatening war, China is screwing with our Naval Vessel, and Iran is testing missles and building nuclear facilities? All the while, we have a commander-in-chief who “hasn’t even faked an interest in foreign policy.”

Great QoTD. I’d much rather discuss quotes coming out of N. Korea’s military or the Chinese Embassy today.

I think, like, Ann Coulter should, so, be be the head of the Republican Party… NOT! She probably doesn’t even have a tatoo or even, like, ever been on a campaign bus or do any cool road trips with her BFFs. I hate her so much since she said my Dad was a liberal, which he is, totally, not, as if. I would never make out with her, even on a dare and if I was, like totally wasted, even if she bought the beer,no matter how much 2Tru wanted to watch…Oh sorry, I drifted there for a second.

Meghan isn’t really fat, she just isn’t a genetic freak like Flockhart. Attractive to those attracted to her, but somewhere there’s a man who gets all hot for Rosie.
.
When a Republican separates themselves from Coulter, and Rush they demonstrate themselves to be RINOs, and at best they need to be ignored by the real Republicans.

darktood on March 10, 2009 at 3:24 AM

The word “RINO” is a democrats wildest dream. It enables morons to justify sitting at home on election day and patting themselves on the back for being somehow authentic republicans. It enables the shrill blowhards like Michelle Malkin or Ann Culter to trash the only thing that stood between America and the dangerous, malignant narcissist socialist incompetent that we now have as president.

I have never, ever voted for a democrat. Not once. However being called a “rino” for wanting to keep Obama out on the right is even MORE stupid than being called a “racist” by the morons on the left.

The fools who lie to themselves they were acting out of conservative principals as they HELPED elect Obama are the “RINO”s. Sh!tty Americans as well.

Boxy_Brown on March 10, 2009 at 3:50 AM

Coulter isn’t really relevant. McCain is… and he shouldn’t be let anywhere near the reigns of power if we can help it. He’s another compassionate conservative… he’ll just destroy us again.

Karmashock on March 10, 2009 at 4:12 AM

I like Coulter for what she is. Wrong expectations lead to resentments. There’s enough truth woven in to her “entertainment.”

Thanks for your help MB4. Thanks for expecting everything to be done for you because that’s such a conservative principal, isn’t it? “Juan McClueless”, that’s pretty original. You had better hope that the people you are letting think for you don’t stop short, you will break your nose on their tailbone.

Boxy_Brown on March 10, 2009 at 4:46 AM

AP’s Quotes of the Day are always aggravating.

When I was 22 I probably would not have liked Ann either, idiot liberal that I was.

I don’t know how anyone could read Godless and not admire her wit, guts, and smarts.

CarolynM on March 10, 2009 at 4:48 AM

It is no secret that being a Republican isn’t the most hip political stance a person can take right now.

Anyone who puts hip & politics in the same sentence is beneath my notice.

AP as usual has his head up his ass re: gay marriage. Check out the gay attack on the Catholics in Connecticut. Like the Pharisees our house atheist “cannot read the signs of the times”. The acceptance of gay marriage will destroy religious freedom in America. All orthodox Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Christian teaching on sexuality will be challenged in court as illegal bigotry.

I’d prefer listening to Ann Coulter any day over more of AP’s babbling.

It’s funny how all these “Real Reagan Republicans” have kept telling us all these years that we need to reach across the isle, we need to be more open, we need we need we need. Well, for all their talk, the one thing we are in need of is winning some elections in case they hadn’t noticed.

It seems that since Rino’s like McCain, Huckabee ETC started leading the herd, it hasn’t been to greener pastures.

woodswalking on March 10, 2009 at 6:00 AM

His method of destruction seems to be to reward bad behavior and punish good behavior, the worse the behavior the higher the reward and the better the behavior the less, if any, reward or even punishment.

I see his deeper motivation to be a uest for revenge. I think he gets more pleasure out of stealing rewards from the successful than he gets from giving the ill-gotten booty to the losers. I think this is the ‘creepiness’ that that turd from Newsweak was perceiving the day after he helped get the idiot elected.

It is like the CO of a company giving the best workers no pay raise, or even a pay cut, because they are performing well at the pay they are getting so he doesn’t have to concern himself with their performance, and he needs to get money somewhere to give those who are performing poorly a pay raise to motivate them, and the worse their performance the more they need to be motivated, so they get an even bigger pay raise.

Heh. Nice analogy.

Financial companies that are performing poorly get billions and those performing terribly get beaucoup billions. AIG is a good example. The worse GM and Chrysler perform the more billions they get.

Which dovetails with the another part of his plan – to make sure that industry can never exist on its own by slapping the most idiotic and draconian restrictions on it (his thrill at the prospect of bankrupting the coal industry, taken flight), so that they cannot escape the need for government bailouts, year after year. This also allows money to be funneled to unions in huge amounts. I know you know this. It can never be said enough, I don’t think.

An so on and so forth. Those companies (and individuals) that are performing well will get a tax increase.

Not a good way to run a ship.

MB4 on March 10, 2009 at 1:52 AM

Well, the stock markets seem to be icebergs that he’s steered the ship right into. They are the only info that the government can’t control, the MSM can’t lie about, and tons of people really care about. I hope it’s enough.

How can anyone simultaneously be pro-military, a supporter of the Iraq campaign and the Surge, and vote for John Kerry?

And why do supporters of embryonic stem cell research insist on obfuscating the issue by calling it simply “stem cell research”?

Great retort, the ‘ol “I know you are but what am I gambit”. No, it isn’t original. We heard it all throughout the campaign by a bunch of self righteous halfwits who would rather have Barack Obama drive the country into the ground like he is than knock off the mental masturbation.

“BTW, what do you think of the, “Obama is a decent person, a person you don’t have to be scared to be president” comment of your beloved Juan McClueless from Oct 10, 2008?”

I think it was someone trying to be gracious in the face of defeat. I am not surprised the whole “being gracious” concept eludes you.

“Oh, one more BTW, Boxy B, never parody yourself, particularly within the same paragraph. It looks silly.”

That must have looked more scathing on your monitor than it did on this end of the pipe.

One more time even though it will still go over your head; thanks for Obama you needy, insecure lemming. You and the rest of the brain trust who thought destroying the country would somehow bring the second coming of Reagan have lost any right to whine… And since that is all that you seem to be capable of that means STFU.

Just a note on AP. If anyone remembers Allah’s in the House, it was a pioneering work in conservative blogging, and became must read for me daily. Malkin saw his potential and he is the foundation that made HA happen. I don’t always agree with him, but it’s like this is his house. I still appreciate his take on things. Ed’s great and adds dimention, but I still check in to see what AP’s up to.

Unity in diversity. Big tent? Maybe. In any case, I like what Grant said, “Better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out than outside pissing in.”

Seems to me the real issue now is 2010. The other stuff is trifling. Polls notwithstanding, a lot can/will change in a year.

If this were a time of peace, rainbows and butterflies, where the only disagreements with the “loyal opposition” were over, say, sending another few million to NASA or not, building another WWII memorial or not, building a major new highway or not,,, you know,,, those kinds of things. I might agree that it would be good if everyone debated those issues nicely with fuzzy warm feelings.
But,, we are not at peace, we are at war,,, out right political war over the future of our nation. The very foundations of our civilization are being attacked by the so called “loyal opposition!” Loyal???? To themselves, maybe,,, but you would have to strain to see any loyalty to our constitution, our flag or the people of the United States! Our foundations are being attacked, our economy is collapsing, corruption is rampant, terrorists are proclaiming our end,,,,,,
I don’t know,,,, I look at Anne as one of the generals. She is a Patton. She might not always say it the right way, but she’s speaking the truth! ,, and the libs fear her and hate her. That’s good enough for me.

From my study of popular culture this pretty much defines hipness.

In 1996 the Republicans ran Bob Dole and Jack Kemp. I sighed, and accepted the inevitable loss.

But I can assure you, I never trashed the men, or insulted them personally, and for God’s sake I never said they had no place in the Republican Party.

Sarah Palin didn’t get the same courtesy.

A different and in my opinion inferior type of man has taken over the GOP.

jeff_from_mpls on March 10, 2009 at 8:25 AM

Well, it’s over now. I’m not going to read all 6 pages of how great Coulter is or how lame RINOs are. All I know is that by fracturing your party, you lose.

I like the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, but it sure can’t be mistaken for literature. By that token, Coulter may write a good stemwinder but anyone (and I mean anyone) who takes what she writes as valid political discourse is out to lunch.

Keep in mind that the failure of the right is in the best interests of narcissists like Anne. Trust me, the last thing you “True” Republicans want is to lurch harder to the right.

His job, which he is extremely good at, is to get people talking about things. His sense of humor is both razor sharp and self deprecating. If you expend the time and energy to pay attention to what he says and keep in mind that a great deal of it is said tongue in cheek you actually just might learn something.

As to Meghan McCain, well take away her famous father and who exactly is she? What has she ever done to earn her a place on a stage next to a best selling author like Ann Coulter? The answers, which AP is pointing out in his own unique fashion, is nobody and nothing. AP is mocking not onlt be nothing do nothing Meghan McCain, but those fools who gace her a platform to spout her inanities from.

Well, unlike you I care more about the GOP, which you Conservatives have used as a vessel.

You guys need your own Party.

AprilOrit on March 10, 2009 at 12:42 AM

I’m curious April.

How would you deal with Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Arlen Spector, with regards to their voting record on the “stimulus” bill?

Saltysam on March 10, 2009 at 1:03 AM

What’s up April?

Dog eat your homework?

Allah,

What in the world are you doing at a conservative web site? I differ with you on every single issue you mentioned including the war in Iraq (I’ve no problem with the original invasion, just sticking around afterwards). To your credit, you’re at least honest about your leftism.

Do you remember the context of her quote? A guy on Gray’s Anatomy had just gotten fired for using the word. It was a great illustration of how our society has gotten hypersensitive over the use of language. And the Left proved her point for her, as usual.

It helped everyone. Of course, the true Edwards story turned out to be so much worse and seamier. If he had just been gay he would probably be VP, right now.

Anyone who didn’t understand her comment is probably a moron to begin with and would only further weaken conservatism if they were pandered to just to get them involved.

Rush calls AP an oddball the other day and then I find out this morning that AP voted for that idiot John Kerry.

Rush’s accuracy ratings should go up to 99.98%.

Meghan need to stay in the kiddie pool. The only reason she’s getting any air time is that she’s the modestly embarrassing daughter of a “moderate” Republican ex-Pres. candidate.

She doesn’t understand Coulter? What DOES Ms. McCain understand? I’m sure her treatise on the causes of poverty will be out any day now, and she’ll be able to debate Coulter on the topic.

hawksruleva on March 10, 2009 at 9:07 AM

…Or Allah, Coulter gives as good as WE get from the left.

RobCon on March 10, 2009 at 9:12 AM

Hardly. Look at the date. I believe this was McCain’s answer to a gentleman who said that he was really worried that the idiot messiah was a socialist. This answer was just, plain wrong – on so many levels.

I don’t know if he is or he isn’t but you should know that in Islam… Honor…. is held in the highest esteem. Truth is considered less so. Truth can be subjective in order to press forward the Islamic agenda.

500 years from now, that moment of McCain’s might still be studied as the textbook case of the insanity that can sweep a nation without warning and destroy it.

People like you are precisely why the Republican party is a worthless party. They can do anything they want from voting for amnessty to growing the federal government to unprecedented sizes and they can still count on your vote. Because, despite how many times they bend you over and give it to you, you scream at anyone who doesn’t vote for a Republican for electing a Democrat. Fine – you can keep your worthless party and keep getting bent over by the very people you vote for.

King of the Britons on March 10, 2009 at 9:35 AM

Well, this is a fight the GOP needs to have. Do we want our party to look like Meghan McCain’s vision, as if a workable coalition could even be crafted in it? Or do we want a party that stands for something and can build a coaltion through the power of ideas?

Frankly, Ms. McCain is a lightweight. She mentions a number of things, but the reality is that those gears just won’t mesh. Like him or hate him, but Mike Huckabee represents a significant portion of the GOP and that portion isn’t going to cotton to gay “marriage” or embryonic stem cell research. Ignoring that simple reality isn’t “hip.”

Dear ALLAHPUNDIT:

Exactly how many train wrecks have you seen? If more than one, how did you come to witness so many disasters?

Just curious.

Mr. Grump on March 10, 2009 at 9:42 AM

I have never been a person who was attracted to hate or negativity.

I always got the exact opposite impression from Coulter. And, if you are so repulsed by hate or negativity, why the hell did you vote for John Effin Kerry? Hypocrite.

Everything about her is extreme: her voice, her interview tactics, and especially the public statements she makes about liberals.

Sounds like old Meg is jealous.

Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is sometimes like watching a train wreck.”

She is popular because she is accomplished, intelligent, articulate, has a great sense of humor, and isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade — which is everything you are not. Your only claim to fame is a famous father. It is good to see you exposed for what you really are: another rich kid who will achieve nothing in life on their own and who is whiny, jealous, and two faced.

PS: The people constantly bashing Coulter are the train wreck. And, yes, it’s fun watching you make a fool out of yourself.

But, fag is much pithier. So, I vote for fag.
