Quote of the day

posted at 10:32 pm on March 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

“I’m often criticized for not being a ‘real’ Republican, and I have been called a RINO—Republican In Name Only—in the past. Many say I am not ‘conservative enough,’ which is something that I am proud of. It is no secret that I disagree with many of the old-school Republican ways of thinking. One of the biggest issues from which I seem to drift from the party base is in my support of gay marriage. I am often criticized for previously voting for John Kerry and my support of stem-cell research. For the record, I am also extremely pro-military and a big supporter of the surge and the Iraq war.

More so than my ideological differences with Ann Coulter, I don’t like her demeanor. I have never been a person who was attracted to hate or negativity. I don’t believe in scare tactics and would never condone or encourage anyone calling President Obama a Muslim. But controversy sells and Coulter is nothing if not controversial. Everything about her is extreme: her voice, her interview tactics, and especially the public statements she makes about liberals. Maybe her popularity stems from the fact that watching her is sometimes like watching a train wreck.”

I won’t say it’s human nature but it’s hard not to go after someone’s looks when you’re fighting with them.

Wrong. It’s easy to go after someone’s looks when you have no argument left. If we really do have logic on our side, why would we resort to the cheap tactics on theirs?

There’s a clue in there, let’s see if you’re smart enough to find it.

Coulter is brilliant. She knows how to debate and win. She is so quick that MSM folks can’t corner her or get her to retract valid thoughts. She’s provocative so that she gets people to read her books, and find that she’s right! Her books are well-researched and well-documented. That’s why the left tries to smear her and say she is uncivil. On the contrary every leftist who interviews her tries to interrupt her, mischaracterize her and smear her. So now we have AP doing the same thing. Rush was right: AP = Oddballpundit.

I’m glad John’s daughter voiced her opinion and unlike AprilOrit, I don’t want her “banned” from her 1st amendment rights. Way to stay classy April!

I want them all to keep talking.

Ann Coulter drew a response from Ms.McCain…..Jeremiah Wright did not. Why?

Barack “typical white person” Obama??? No response from Ms.McCain.

Eric “cowards” Holder?? Nuttin’.

Barack “NO EARMARKS!!!!! except for THOSE earmarks” Obama?? Sweet silence from Ms.McCain.

Had I not heard her speak, I would never have known her political persuasions.

Now I do.

HornetSting on March 10, 2009 at 12:45 AM

It’s always sort of amusing whenever I read a criticism of Ann that accuses her of “hate”. What Ann Coulter does is reflect back the hatred that is spewed by liberals every time they are confronted with anyone or anything that smacks of reason.

I spent 6 years posting on a message board that had a fairly large group of conservative regulars. They were outnumbered, but there were quite a few of them. And they were all hated with a passion by the liberal contingent. It was that experience that formed my opinion that conservatives are, on average, the following:

well read
polite to a fault
willing to argue their points no matter how ugly the replies got
able to separate the person from the argument

Liberals, on the other hand, are without exception:

mean
nasty
petty
ignorant and proud of it
contemptuous of anyone who disagrees
totally incapable of self awareness (hypocrites)
bigoted (every liberal I’ve talked to is a raging anti-Semite)

One thing I used to do for fun was post Ann’s columns. Just to see how hateful the replies would be. Gawd, it was fun. It was a very active board and always had new members so it was hysterical to see how long it would take before someone would say she used to be a man. Never failed.

You can say what you want about Ann Coulter, but she was right about John McCain being an unelectable RINO. She was quick to point that out the very minute McCain was a lock on the nomination.

A little off topic, but my hometown newpaper website, the San Diego Union Tribune just went back to using Discus for web comments and I was looking at all my old comments from a year ago when I was agruing with all the RINO’s on the site that McCain was going to get whipped like an ugly stepchild. THE RINOS WERE WRONG! And the STILL WON’T ADMIT IT!

That’s what torques the RINO’s about Coulter, they know she’s right and they hate it. She makes them look like idiots again and again. RINOS are not in touch with reality. Coulter cuts to the truth like a laser beam. As far as hate, what a bunch of BS. She has more balls than any republican congressman for calling things the way they are. The Dems yell hate and all of them are cowed and afraid to say anything. Coulter fights back and throws that crap right back in their face. Repubs have to learn that politics is not for wussies! They have to learn that they are being played into submission by a little name calling.

Ann Coulter rocks. And she’s hotter than a BBQ on the sun in August to boot.

You left out the key attribute of a modern liberal – self-hating (for the white liberals, that is). They hate the fact that they always feel guilty (which is due to nothing other than their warped personalities) and blame their fathers (usually) which translates into a hate for all things that look like them or remind them of themselves or their family. They hate that they were always losers (liberals cannot control their empathetic reactions and are unable to watch anyone lose – except winners who trip and break their ankles, of course) and don’t feel comfortable being associated with the winners. So, they try to turn the US into the losers, so that they can feel better about themselves. The white, self-hating libs team up with the angry black militants, along with other assorted misfits and weirdos, as they all agree that the successful must suffer – though for vastly different reasons and with different amounts of suffering required. The guy in the White House wants to maximize the suffering. He is very angry.

I hate to point out the obvious to Miss McCain, but Ann Coulter did not lose the election, her dad did.

Indeed, the only place where “extreme” conservatism, as she calls it, was on the ballot was California, where defending the importance of gay marriage won by a large majority and her father lost by an even larger majority.

What? Does she honestly think the same media that generally liked her father, yet portrayed him as an ancient, cancer-ridden, ultra-wealthy, unstable, hot-head who cheated on his wife and cant remember how many homes he owns actually portrays real conservatives, whom they loathe, more fairly?

Grow up little girl.

Her only mistake is her continuing to give credit to Bush despite all his failures and the damage that he has done to America and the Republican party.

*headdesk* AP, please put a disclaimer up with the QotD from now on stating that it does not necessarily reflect the views of management or some such thing. Or do you actually get a kick out of the confusion?

Also, if we are going to talk about people’s appearance, I will say I think that is the best picture of Ann I’ve seen. It shows how pretty she is in a much softer way than most. Meghan is a pretty girl, too, but she obviously doesn’t have even a fraction of Ann’s intelligence. /the truth as I see it.

I don’t understand those who do not find Ann funny. I’ve often said that she can take a topic as serious as abortion and make me laugh and I am a hard core anti-abortionist to the point of single issue voter status if it comes down to it. But her absolutely biting sarcasm cracks me up. She just makes the other side look so very foolish or speaks the truth so bluntly that I just have to laugh. I love it. I have always loved sarcasm and I think she is a master. I probably wouldn’t think she was funny if I didn’t agree with her views though, but then I probably wouldn’t be much of a thinker anyway.

So, Coulter unlike the Lib-bots isn’t in lockstep with everyone who shares her basic ideologies. I fail to see that as something bad. If she is a ‘RINO’ then I think it’s because she is more conservative than the Republican Party leadership and therefore the term may strictly apply to her.

To me, a big part of what Conservatism is about-independent thinking concerning issues and maintaining the freedom to do so without bullying others to believe this or that.

Perhaps not simply mindlessly regurgitating talking points from God knows where is, at least in the short term (getting people elected) the weakness of Conservatism as well as the GOP in general.

Allahpundit carries several whips
He’s the sultan of Hotair with comebacks at his fingertips
He’s nearly seven feet tall
And yet quite graceful……all in all
He needs no protector from any hit
As all will fall before his wit

I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man’s reasoning powers are not above the monkey’s. [Twain]

AprilOrit on March 10, 2009 at 1:11 AM

Do you have any idea how much trouble Twain would get in for saying that today?

That is an example of the fact that the left uses name-calling (it would be ‘racist’ in this case) for the substantive part of their debate, not to be humorous or cute. That is all they understand. If you want to get through to such people, you have to speak in a language they understand. The rest just flies right in one ear and out the other.

Coulter talks back — something liberals and RINOs can’t stand.

Coulter backs it up with facts — something liberals and RINOs can’t stand.

Coulter is blond, beautiful, AND brilliant — something liberals and jealous women can’t stand.

Did I mention blond and brilliant? Oh. Yeah. Her voice is nice, too.

They’re all jealous the way Bush was jealous when he banned the 100-watt bulb. Jealous. Jealous. Jealous.

Obama isn’t angry. He knows exactly what he’s doing and he’s going to succeed in doing it as long as conservatives care more about what people say about them than they do about what the liberals are going to do to this country.

Every conservative with a voice should be shouting from every window “I want Obama to fail!”

Every thinking person. Which is pretty much the definition of a conservative.

Here is an idea.

To tell the difference between a conservative woman (ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham) and a liberal woman (Rosie Odonnell, Randi Rhodes, the liberal women of the view, etc) is by their weight and ugliness.

Conservative women are simply better looking than liberal broads. Thats why they go liberal and lezbo….cant get cool conservative men like me.

No fat broads.

Thank you and good night.

Cheshire Cat on March 10, 2009 at 1:32 AM

She hasn’t reasoned it out: If conservatives were to abandon their GOP “vessel” for a new party, the remaining GOP would get votes equivalent to that of the Martian Secessionist Party.
Bishop on March 10, 2009 at 12:54 AM

Well, “reason” is an awfully big word. Even if someone is an idiot, trying to guess “is she really that dumb, or does she just want me to think that…” will get you tied up in knots in no time. So I just avoid that game altogether.

Instead, I focus on what people want. Because that’s always easy to figure out — even when they themselves can’t (or won’t) clearly articulate what that is.

And what liberal Republicans want is precisely the same thing that liberal Democrats want. It’s what Ayn Rand referred to as “the sanction of the victim.”

logis on March 10, 2009 at 1:33 AM

Obama isn’t angry.

I must disagree, Jaynie. The idiot messiah is driven by anger and bent on exacting revenge. That’s what “social and economic justice” are all about. Nothing else.

He knows exactly what he’s doing

He knows what he wants to do, but he’s too dumb to really know what’s happening. Luckily, from his angle, it doesn’t take skill to destroy something. There are millions of ways of destroying things.

and he’s going to succeed in doing it as long as conservatives care more about what people say about them than they do about what the liberals are going to do to this country.

Very true.

Every conservative with a voice should be shouting from every window “I want Obama to fail!”

I’m with you 1000%. That’s why I think it’s good that Rush said it the way he said it and that people are talking about it. It forces them to realize how serious the situation is. I frame it this way,

Lenin succeeded even though all of his policies got implemented and failed, spectacularly, and Russia had to suffer hell for decades because of Lenin’s success.

Every thinking person. Which is pretty much the definition of a conservative.

Jaynie59 on March 10, 2009 at 1:24 AM

Yep. I’m with on everything except the competency/intelligence of the idiot messiah. I think he’s a true idiot.

progressoverpeace on March 10, 2009 at 1:36 AM

I have not read the comments or the article. But why are these so called conservatives answering questions or making statements about Ann, Rush or others of the like?

I like them both, they both have said things that make me cringe but are not necessarily untrue or inappropriate.

Why not just say that?

That is how I treat friends of mine who also say things that are, shall we say almost over the line.

I’ll go and try to read the article now…

progressoverpeace on March 10, 2009 at 1:36 AM

His method of destruction seems to be to reward bad behavior and punish good behavior, the worse the behavior the higher the reward and the better the behavior the less, if any, reward or even punishment.

It is like the CO of a company giving the best workers no pay raise, or even a pay cut, because they are performing well at the pay they are getting so he doesn’t have to concern himself with their performance, and he needs to get money somewhere to give those who are performing poorly a pay raise to motivate them, and the worse their performance the more they need to be motivated, so they get an even bigger pay raise.

Financial companies that are performing poorly get billions and those performing terribly get beaucoup billions. AIG is a good example. The worse GM and Chrysler perform the more billions they get. An so on and so forth. Those companies (and individuals) that are performing well will get a tax increase.

Not a good way to run a ship.

That is what it looks like. I just read Meghan McCain’s article.

From the article and talking about the Maher, Coulter debate:

I hope viewers understand Ann Coulter is not the woman we Republicans need representing us right now. The GOP is at a crossroads. I love the Republican Party, but if it turns out I am somehow not conservative enough to please its leaders, it makes me wonder—am I then not worthy of even being a member?

Good grief. Sounds like she is petrified of what Ann might say. So what. She is NOT an official representative or the leader of the GOP. If the media wants to make her or Rush out to be, let them. People are not going to fall for it in the long run.

HornetSting on March 10, 2009 at 1:55 AM

I see this a lot at the University I attend. A lot of young people who’ve never had to work for anything in their lives think that’s the way it should be for everybody, and will follow whoever promises that. I bet that’s got something to do with the psychology behind M. McCain’s world view.

Switching gears, I think this thread has generated more comments about how bad the QoTD sucks than about the actual topic. Whatever gets the hits I guess…

I agree completely about Coulter, AP. She is perfectly willing to sacrifice the Republican party’s chances in any election in order to get her name in the news so she sells more books. I’m not a Republican but it seems that the party should wake up to that fact and disown her. The same thing applies to Limbaugh as well IMO.
