How would an NYT interview with Ann Coulter go?

Ever wonder what would happen if a New York Times reporter got an interview with Ann Coulter?  So did Gray Lady cultural reporter Dave Itzkoff, and he got more than he bargained when he sent his request for an e-mail interview.  Coulter replied to all of his questions — in her inimitable style.  Itzkoff asked Coulter about her debate tonight with Bill Maher, and Coulter used all-caps for her replies to set them apart from his questions:

Many thanks, in advance, for taking these questions — let alone opening an email from the New York Times.

I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW, I AM THE TREASON TIMES MOST LOYAL READER. I WAS HOPING YOUR EMAIL WAS A DISCOUNT SUBSCRIPTION OFFER.

I get those all the time, but mostly from the Strib.

Have the events of recent years put a strain on your relationship with Bill, or do you still regard him as a friend (politics notwithstanding)?

I LOVE BILL, BUT I HATE HIS RETARDED MOVEON.ORG AUDIENCE ALMOST AS MUCH AS HE DOES.

I used to like Politically Incorrect, but the new HBO show should be barred by Geneva Conventions.  If we’re making al-Qaeda detainees watch it, someone should get prosecuted.  Rarely does one see an aggregation of ignorance so profound and prolonged in one spot — except, perhaps, Academia.

Itzkoff then suggests that tonight’s debate might help foster a spirit of “bipartisanship”.  It’s at this point that Coulter makes clear that Itzkoff’s outgunned:

YOU SEEM TO BE UNCLEAR ON THE CONCEPT OF “DEBATE.” THE IDEA, SINCE AROUND THE TIME OF, OH SAY, ARISTOLE, IS TO DERIVE TRUTH. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE POINT OF THE LINCOLN-DOUGLAS DEBATES, FOR EXAMPLE, WAS TO “FOSTER MORE BIPARTISANSHIP.”

How exactly does anyone conclude that a debate on policy fosters bipartisanship?  Unless one has a debate topic so pointless as to get everyone to agree — such as “Do you want world peace?” — the exercise exists to put opposing viewpoints to a rhetorical test.  You can almost hear Coulter rolling her eyeballs at this suggestion.

I’ll save her last blast at Itzkoff for you to click and read yourself.  I have to give Itzkoff and the Times credit for publishing it, although they probably knew that they had little choice — as Coulter would have published it herself and accused the Gray Lady of hiding it.

Addendum: I’ve been critical of a few of Ann’s statements in the past, but she can be hilarious at times.  She was one of our best guests on the NARN show a few years back.  This exchange shows why it’s best to be prepared when having a dialogue with her.

No, it only will reflect that the lack of class still remains, just that it’d be one less type.

Ann Coulter has written best selling books and has been a voice to conservatism when many others have been too whimpy to do so. There have been times when she has annoyed me, but lately, I am glad she is speaking up. Honestly, you may not like everything she says, but at least she is consistent.

So, the Leftist media will scream, ANN COULTER wants Time publisher’s EXECUTED!

Of course not a peep, when a leftist says the same about Limbaugh.

That’s what’s so ironically hilarious, the left wingers will scream that they want people like Coulter to shut up, while calling conservatives fascists!

kirkill on March 9, 2009 at 6:59 PM

I read the entire interview and then the comments from the lefty trolls that love the Treasonous Times. My comments to them are emphasized:

“Talking about Treason – Bush and Cheney should be exiled to Iraq for betraying the American people.”

— einstein

The Bush administration did nothing to betray the American people, if your comment is in regard to the WMD “controversy” and the “Bush lied and people died” meme well that argument is old and tired not to mention a lefty “red herring.”

Many in the previous Clinton administration (not just the Bush admin) as well as numerous intelligence agencies were CONVINCED Iraq was reconstituting their WMD programs.

In addition, who’s to say the WMD’s weren’t moved to Syria as many agencies and experts believe. That would explain the many truck convoys going from Iraq to Syria just prior to our invading and if the Bush admin had proof of them being moved it was (and probably still is) information that is best kept classified, after all it’s not a good idea to let your enemies know everything you know, it’s too bad the Treasonous Times hasn’t learned that yet!

Most importantly while the Bush administration did use the WMD’s as one of their top reasons for invading Iraq it was by no means the only reason. Perhaps “einstein” you may remember the first gulf war where Saddam agreed to the terms of the cease fire after getting his butt handed to him yet Saddam constantly refused to abide by the requirements of the cease fire agreements not to mention never complying with the numerous UN resolutions against him, these reasons alone were justification enough to invade Iraq, so again your lefty “Bush lied and people died” meme is old, tiresome, and is just a red herring!

Also, your lame comment proves you must be einstein in name only!

“Bill, if you’re reading this…please tear her a new one.— Miller”

Fat chance, Ann will wipe the floor with Bill; she’s much more of a man than Bill will ever be!

“i think the presence of this person in the media says a lot about the media. I do not believe any serious media consumers feel the need for her…
— supereks”

That’s rich considering the main stream media is so in the tank for Obama. It’s interesting; depending on how the wind blows lefties like or hate something, if the media is shilling for THE ONE, they’re great! But if they allow someone like Ann to have airtime well then there’s something wrong with the media…what hypocrites! Freedom of speech goes both ways!

Go Ann, make that sissy boy Bill cry!

So, the Leftist media will scream, ANN COULTER wants Time publisher’s EXECUTED!

Of course not a peep, when a leftist says the same about Limbaugh.

That might be the point of this latest soundbite/quote from Ann.

Which makes sense?

Execute one for releasing state secrets in a time of war?

Or execute the other (Rush) based on ideology?

It cracks me up how Ann riles them so. They can’t outsmart her and they know it.

The Lincoln/Douglas line was a perfect example.

I believe that that was exactly the point she was making with her statement. That it will fly well over the top of many readers of the Old Grey Lady shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone with more than 2 working brain cells.

AW1 Tim on March 9, 2009 at 7:06 PM

That last answer was just beautiful. You can disagree with Ann (as I so often do), but she’s damn smart, and funny too.

Great post.

Words fail me.

Ann Coulter is an original, and she likes Sarah Palin. Don’t try to make a joke at the Governor of Alaska’s expense in Ann Coulter’s name. It’s too obvious.

Classic.

Here’s a good mnemonic to help people who get confused about whether the author of that quote was Ann Coulter or Meghan McCain: It’s the one who’s NOT a total air-headed dumbass.

I know it’s creepy as Hell, but force yourself to stop for a second and think about what these libtards are actually DOING. They are sitting in their parents’ basements, typing a dozen posts on one forum saying: “He’s fat!” or “She’s stupid!” And then going to the next bookmark and doing it all again – and again, and again and again…

I didn’t like Ann Coulter’s style any more than I would care to have a working artillery piece on my front lawn. But she is just what the Left needs … and there are time when it is good to have an artillery piece handy.

Now we see why the sissy girls on The View ganged up to shout her down. It’s the only weapon they have against her iron logic, rapier wit, and explosive delivery. Oh ni bikuri shakuri to!, I think is how Mr. Gilbert’s characters expressed it.

njcommuter on March 9, 2009 at 10:19 PM

I like Ann. She can reduce anyone to a crying little baby using ACL (Ann Coulter Logic). She is right on.

cjs1943 on March 9, 2009 at 10:56 PM

I just read through the comments at the ‘Treason Times’. *love that, Ann* I was absolutely stunned at the number of pro-Ann comments blasting the leftist idiots. The last two pages at least were almost completely pro-Ann. I started to feel hope that the tide might actually be turning.

Then I read the bilge from Meghan McCain and the comments there. *sigh* I should have gone to bed after reading the Times…

She smokes, though, so wouldn’t marry her.

I’d not only marry her, I’d make her sign a prenuptial agreement that if we ever got divorced, she’d get full custody of me (or I’d get full custody of her, she can take her pick).

Daggett on March 9, 2009 at 11:52 PM

As someone who finally managed to quit smoking may I say that smokers are not bad people. It is really hard to stop smoking and it doesn’t matter for what reason you initially started. As much as I despise Obama (and trust me, I do despise him) I sympathize with his struggle to quit the habit.

I Love Ann. She could smoke like a chimney if she wants to do so. I still love her.
The Right needs her voice and intellect right now. We have a few months to point and laugh at Liberals and Obama’s crew of assclowns makes easy picking s for te likes of Coulter.

Yep. And the Bush admin’s refusal to hold the press responsible for the espionage they were carrying out (for a political payout, which makes it all even worse) is part of what allowed and encouraged the growth of the neo-Pravda media.

progressoverpeace on March 10, 2009 at 6:25 AM

Progressoverpeace There is no point in reliving the goofs of either Bush Administration. I have avoided it, at least around here. If you examine the real cancers they grew, they were usually the result of deserting conservative principles or being bipart- er, weak (or both) and the problem you cite fits in both categories.

Then we consider the McLames. Where would we have gone. Well, not where The One is taking us. But still..

I think people make her out to be this extreme person. She is just a true conservative. The answers are common sense when you are a conservative, she just likes to make fun of people when they have no common sense. Like all conservatives she looks at the world for what it is and deals with it on that level. No fantasy and good smelling farts.
