most of the mainstream media outlets fail to inform their audiences properly for political discourse.

It may be even worse. I wonder how many of the MSM audience who got it right did so because they also have other sources (e.g., talk radio, online, etc.)? Unless the poll asked for major source and/or excluded those with additional sources, this might cover even worse MSM performance.

Will you accept the work of media matters or will you right it off as liberal bias? They are fact checkers for the media, regardless of your partisan slant.

Thanks, now next time you post one of your ridiculous post like stating that Specter had already voted for the card check bill...I know where you got your mis-information.
It makes sense now, media matters is one of the most irresponsible internet sites...right along with dKos, another one of your favorites...yet you post here.
And BTW, the vote still hasn't been taken...and you still think Specter has voted for it...

NPR?? OK...where does one go to get the really cool fake elitist accent used on NPR? It's kind of British, but they aren't British so it isn't British. So it's kind of...well...fake but yet so "I'm so much smarter than you dumb asses"! It really is stunning to behold! It's the perfect locution of words. You know the girl in school that everyone hated that pronounced every word perfectly but sounded like a twit? That's NPR. Then they take the guys that want to work there, send them to the local vet and have their testicles removed, then teach them how to talk this way, add a slight British fake accent and we have NPR! Really quite lovely!

How many could actually answer who wrote the Constitution? How many could answer who signed the Iraqi Liberation Act? How many could answer what HR114 is or tell you what the Posse Comitatus act WAS? For that matter, how many could pass the Imigration and Naturalization Test? How many could give you an ACTUAL definition of what the Acronym NAZI means?
By the way, this is ALL taught in JUNIOR HIGH HISTORY.
And we DARE to wonder how Obama managed to get elected?

Ok, before anyone corrects me I just realized my year mistake-ugh. I should not get out of bed to take the bread out of the breadmaker and try to post at 1am after a time change and after a bad night sleeping because the sump pump is going off every 5 seconds with all the rain and sounds like a child sucking the bottom of a drink through a straw!

Sorry. But if Obama can use the tired excuse, all of us can.

I just looked up Tony Blair's bio and it said he served through 27June 2007. This survey ended on 1 Jun 2007 so unless they were asking who the new PM was going to be I am betting most answered Blair and would have been right.

What is important about surveys is what they do with the info- did they make any changes to their news formats to improve their listeners knowledge? Who wants to bet that Rush/Hannity did but the MSM didn't because dumbing their viewers down IS their goal?

Oh and in April and June of last year I probably would have had a tough time coming up with Gordon Brown's name. He was new and Charisma is lacking... I regularly read the BBC online and I still don't know if I would have come up with his name back then.

Sakozy I was following... But British PM not so much. But now under the new administration we don't need to worry about who runs the UK they aren't all that important anymore.../s

I agree everytime Obama says he "inheirited" this financial mess it makes me made. Obama was in the Senate... The Dems did the Fannie Fredie stuff and Obama took the money and then hired the crooks as his advisors... He certainly should take a chunk of blame for creating the banking failures... AS should the DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!

This isn't to say that Repubs didn't do their part, but they have been held accountable!

So far the Dems have got away with murder! There has got to be some bad Karma in that for them though.

How can you you rate political knowledge in a meaningful way with a grand total of 3 questions? With only 3 questions to ask to attempt a rating, why would one of your questions be to name the current prime minister of England? The U.S. Secretary of State and the party controlling Congress are things everyone should certainly know, but the current prime minister of England for most Americans could almost be classified as trivia.

It's probably that 3rd question that helped the liberal elitist magazines the most in the rating, since I doubt that Sean or Rush placed high priority in covering British politics during a presidential election year.

I think the poll can usefully highlight some audiences that are up on politics, but I think ranking them all numerically based on 3 questions would be a useless and futile effort.

I think Hotair’s audience is the best informed.

William Amos on March 8, 2009 at 11:12 AM

William, as I am fairly new to politics, (only really been seriously in to it for the last 5 years), I'm learning a LOT from HA commenters. So I guess you are correct as I sure am not learning this information anywhere else.

The highest score was 48 percent. Does that mean that the majority don't know what's going on in this country and in the world? Pathetic. They probably all voted for Obama.

Very old survey, dating back to October and the previous administration. It would be interesting to see the results of a newer survey

michaelo on March 8, 2009 at 2:11 PM

Five months old, but the data in it doesn't age rapidly.

In particular, if they couldn't identify them then, what has changed that they should be able to identify them now?

Oh, I forgot! The Gifts, and The "reset" button. So they ought to get at least two of the questions right now, but I'm betting they keep blaming the Republicans for Stimulus.

Five months old, but the data in it doesn’t age rapidly.

In particular, if they couldn’t identify them then, what has changed that they should be able to identify them now?

Oh, I forgot! The Gifts, and The “reset” button. So they ought to get at least two of the questions right now, but I’m betting they keep blaming the Republicans for Stimulus.

You’ve got to understand lefties. A leftist slant is by definition “non-partisan”, since leftism/liberalism is self-evident truth. “Partisan” is only possible for those who are right-of-center.

most of the mainstream media outlets fail to inform their audiences properly for political discourse.

Not as far as Dems are concerned they don't. The MSM tells you that everything is Bush's fault and Obama can do no wrong.

I’ve been saying that for years Jvette. I think the media pushed both the story and message from both OIF and OEF and used polls to track their progress in running both theaters into the toilet.

Yes, things grew really intense in 2004 as the election grew closer. The MSM(traitors)demoralized with their news coverage and most definitely influenced opinion polls by reporting only the bad while ignoring the good.

My husband has been on the receiving end of many a rant about this very subject. Got to the point that we couldn't even discuss the subject civilly. My husband is a Democrat by the way, as was I before becoming a better informed adult. Of course, I mean him no offense, he's a good man.

I know a lot of yuppies who like to (very) smugly announce that they only listen to NPR; Like that’s some brilliant badge of honor, or something.

Most disturbing aspect of the survey: 18% of Americans got all three questions correct?! No wonder we ended up with idiot boy.

I imagine they only watch Masterpiece Theatre on PBS as well.
