Quote of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on March 8, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Frum’s critique of Limbaugh is that he unnecessarily alienates those we need to persuade — the moderates and almost-conservatives — by engaging in gratuitous provocations which are more cathartic than forensic. And yet when it comes to the people Frum first needs to persuade — the mainstream of the conservative movement — he engages in precisely the same style of ‘debate’ through invective…
Frum of course got the Strange New Respect he’s been angling for recently, as the very partisan liberal Newsweek asked him to submit a 4 page essay on why conservatives suck. They didn’t even mind that one-quarter of it was merely a complete cut-and-paste from a blog-post he wrote. A blog post, of course, that called Limbaugh, for no particularly good reason, a fat divorced drug-addicted fatso fat-ass.
And yet he sits there playing victim, scratching his head at all these terrible besmirchments of his character, wondering why it is we just can’t sit here like sensible adults and hash these issues out in a dispassionate manner.”

That accompanying Newsweak cover of Rush with tape over his mouth was enough to start a Civil War.

Don’t know why we’re giving Frum such acknowledgment. He’s just another Obama sycophant.
Kronos on March 8, 2009 at 9:37 PM
In the right-o-sphere it’s not about Frum any longer.
It’s about you and Patterico hiding from Goldstein.

Hopefully this internecine struggle runs its course before 2010.
dedalus on March 8, 2009 at 9:38 PM
Because he has not actually listened to Rush over the years, is not a conservative, but a political hack for the left, dressed up in a RINO suit, with a big sign on his back saying………….
Seven Percent Solution on March 8, 2009 at 9:38 PM
Why does Frum even show up here? If you follow politics you are either conservative or regressive and do not care for the likes of Frum. If you are a “moderate” you don’t read political stuff.
WashJeff on March 8, 2009 at 9:39 PM
Frum has been getting WAY too much exposure lately.
He’s not that important — his personal feuds and insecurities are even less important.

Is it any wonder that a strong Conservative like Rush has become the leading voice for the Right when we have a wimp like Frum trying to lead the squishy Center?
Frum started his accomodationist shtick before Rush and CPAC.
Frum is a Canadian: can he even vote in this country?
Please, enough Frum! Make HA a Frum-free zone!
The guy is a major loser.
Jenfidel on March 8, 2009 at 9:42 PM
Frum is little more than a liberal trying to pass himself off as a conservative. The press loves these guys.
docdave on March 8, 2009 at 9:43 PM
Call him a liberal and forget about him.
Conservatives need to laugh off the likes of Frum, Brooks, Buckley and company. The next time anyone refers to them as “conservative” the whole movement should object and laugh.
mankai on March 8, 2009 at 9:43 PM
Frum is a nobody. Levin told it like it is.
MarcusBrody on March 8, 2009 at 9:43 PM
I have no respect for Frum or Buckley who both condemned Sarah Palin for being a right-wing religious wacko based only on MSM reports and without ever speaking to her or getting to know her better.
For so-called intellectuals these two are true wackos: PDS never had two more despicable scumbags.
technopeasant on March 8, 2009 at 9:43 PM
Ho hum, another anti-Conservative following orders from ‘Higher’ (e.g., Rahm ‘Twinkle Toes’ Emanuel) and the Alinsky-ite script:
Don’t these clowns know the script gets a little tiresome after a while?
SeniorD on March 8, 2009 at 9:43 PM
By Frum’s own accord, his last book sold 25,000 copies. Perhaps an imperfect measure of his influence but suffice it to say his only near term relevance is being a tool for the opposition.
He has yet to clearly articulate how he plans to square the circle. If you don’t share the basic intellectual framework of Freedman, Goldwater and Reagan are you really a conservative?
I wonder if David Brock is on speed dial yet.
moxie_neanderthal on March 8, 2009 at 9:46 PM
Look, I don’t care who the real chairman of the Republican Party is, David Frum or Rush Limbaugh. What matters is that “Kettle” Frum is in no position to be calling out Limbaugh for excessive girth. Frum looks like he knows his way around a Tim Horton’s.
see-dubya on March 8, 2009 at 9:47 PM
Newsweak … isn’t that the rag that force fed the idiot messiah to the people only to have the editor talk about how CREEPY the guy was just after he won the election?
Yeh, great media we’ve got. The neo-Pravda giving us “leaders’ who creep out their big supporters …
And Frum is a twerp who shouldn’t have his views published anywhere. He has the intellectual power of a small slug.
progressoverpeace on March 8, 2009 at 9:47 PM
I mean, when Frum sits around the house…he’s really quite stocky.
see-dubya on March 8, 2009 at 9:47 PM
Frum?
Frum?
I seem to recall that name from the long long ago times…
Frum?
Nope. Sure doesn’t ring a bell exactly.
coldwarrior on March 8, 2009 at 9:48 PM
Frum needed attention…
and he got it..
Short term gain long term loss for him…
The Rep. party has been shot for a while and my hope is that when the dust settles, all this chaos will cause the people within it to cement themselves to a cause more than a party. By doing so (if it’s not too late) we can save what’s left of our country.
People like Frum, sadly will be left in that dust.

This is depressing. it’s not bad enough that we are constantly being attacked and libeled by the far left – now we are attacking our own? I have tried Frum’s site and find it incredibly boring. I’m probably not intellectual enough to appreciate it. I don’t listen to Rush, but I’m glad he is on board and by have been told he is entertaining and enlightening. This kind of sh@t should stay in the family. We should be focusing on our common ground and let the other stuff sort itself out.
schaffies on March 8, 2009 at 9:54 PM
I still can’t figure out why Conservatives need, nor need to heed, advice from guys like Frum.
Listening to the advice of Frum is like listening to your local used car dealer giving you advice about oncology.
Let Frum blather all he wants. Conservatives have real issues to deal with, starting with nailing down Congress in 2010, and moving this Nation away from the likes of Frum and the rest of the surrender pack.
coldwarrior on March 8, 2009 at 9:54 PM
Thanks, AP! Its a nice change of pace. Frum is probably eating his hat at being compared to Rush.

I’m beginning to see this whole dust up that Rush caused as a cleansing period.
People like Frum and his buds were muddying the waters and it’s good that he is getting the a little sunlight put on him.
As Obama likes to say,. sunlight is the greatest disinfectant.
Frum is a bug who just got sprayed.

BrideOfRove on March 8, 2009 at 10:02 PM
What the Frums and the Parkers and the Bulkley’s are angling for is this …
They are hoping for a three party system with essentially the ideological libs in one party – the social conservatives in another – and themselves in some kind of “majority soup” party with the Clinton’s and the McCains.
That’s REALLY what they are trying to achieve and it’s the only way they can retain credibility. They’ve risked their entire credibility in this – and they know there is no way we’re taking them back. So expect them to keep swinging for the fence because they got nuthin’ to lose.
HondaV65 on March 8, 2009 at 10:03 PM
He worked very hard to get his spot on the Axis of Weasel. He can get off of it very simply, by writing a short article on how Lenin succeeded, even though all of Lenin’s policies failed miserably, and yet the Russians were still saddled with Lenin’s hell for decades into the future.
Even the worst failed policies can proceed of their own inertia for years and years and years.
But I think Frum actually likes his place on the Axis.

The criticism of Frum is very warranted.
But Frum is still right when he says Limbaugh is too bombastic & insulting, even if Frum is also guilty of these characteristics.

ddrintn on March 8, 2009 at 10:06 PM
The more we listen to advice from the Left the bigger our losses election after election as we become to the average voter just Democrat-lite…and are prey to those who love to divide us. Why take advice from those who believe we are the root of all evil?
The sooner we stop taking advice from the Left, and those who like to cozy up to the Left, the better off the Nation will be.
Principles, not personalities.

Except the good people at NRO gave him a forum and a blog. Along with Buckley, NR has fallen so much over the past few years that Lowry is competing with Brooks to be the News Hour’s favorite faux-conservative. There really needs to be a new conservative news magazine and not the neocon Weekly Standard. The last eight years was just too much with those folks.
IR-MN on March 8, 2009 at 10:09 PM
“Lamprey,” but oddly enough it’s pronounced “Self-appointed ‘conservative’ apologists”.

Gohawgs on March 8, 2009 at 10:10 PM
Oh, and to address the greater point, one of the disadvantages that the right as a whole deals with is that it often seems most of the center-right would rather fight with the solid conservatives rather then actually try to accomplish anything.
So we see Frum and friends bash Limbaugh for being too right wing…well where are all those moderate liberals telling Obama to stop destroying the economy?!?
The simple truth is that due to the way our system of government works, if you are even slightly right of center you should support the most conservative candidates you can find.
Why? Because there are hundreds of politicians and thousands of bureaucrats and pundits all trying to push the country right or left. Outside of perhaps the President none of them really matter individually. Mr Super Conservative can’t push the country out to super conservative land all he can do is nudge it fractionally to the right. And Mr Moderate Conservative will do the same thing, except not as far.

We won’t grow up
We don’t want to go to school
Just to learn to be a parrot
And recite a silly rule
If growing up means
It would be beneath our dignity to climb a tree
We’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up
Not we!
Not we!
Not we!
We won’t grow up
We don’t want to wear a tie
And a serious expression
In the middle of July.
And if it means we must prepare
To shoulder burdens with a worried air
We’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up
Not we
Not we
Not we!

Kathleen Parker gets to be on TV now, too, cashing in on the White House “get Rush” pile on. David Brooks got dragged back to the reservation. Chris Buckley is making nice nice and trashing Sarah Palin. Barack Obama himself is keeping the campaign flames of November burning bright with his whining about Bush, as if he had never been President for two months without putting forth any plan but spending TRILLIONS.
Did Obama run on spending TRILLIONS? No, he did not. Didn’t he promise that the “stimulus” would be timely, targeted and specific? He lied.
How quickly it seems people forget that the Obama who won the election was the guy who pro-lifers could love, who would enact a net spending cut, wouldn’t propose any new spending without an equal spending cut, hated deficits, was for tax cuts and against tax hikes, supported nuclear power and more energy production while running away from any green comments, opposed gun control, was a national security hawk on Afghanistan/Pakistan and wanted to rebuild and strengthen the military.
Rather than be reminded of his campaign promises, reveal a socialist agenda and own up to his embarrassing failure to live up to his job responsibilities — let alone solve the financial crisis that snowballs every day he ignores it — he has decided to attack Rush Limbaugh.
The worst is that Republicans are following these suicidal will-o-the-wisps Frum, Parker, Noonan, Buckley and Brooks into the political swamp, exactly where the Democrats want you. Republicans are turning on one another. The right thing to do is defend Rush Limbaugh, because he is an ally. Democrats defended Wright and Ayers, both disgusting characters 1000 x worse than Rush has even been accused of being, and yet we’re in full meltdown because of a non-controversy.
“I want him to fail.” BIG DEAL. Rush put some blood in the water. There is no mistake Obama is a Marxist. This is straight out of Rules For Radicals. Rule 13 about personalizing the enemy.
BushRush. Obama’s on the ropes. Time to fight, if you want this to remain a free country.chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 10:43 PM
