Quote of the day

“Notice that Limbaugh did not say: ‘I hope the administration’s liberal plans fail.’ Or (better): ‘I know the administration’s liberal plans will fail.’ Or (best): ‘I fear that this administration’s liberal plans will fail, as liberal plans usually do.’ If it had been phrased that way, nobody could have used Limbaugh’s words to misrepresent conservatives as clueless, indifferent or gleeful in the face of the most painful economic crisis in a generation. But then, if it had been phrased that way, nobody would have quoted his words at all—and as Limbaugh himself said, being ‘headlined’ was the point of the exercise. If it had been phrased that way, Limbaugh’s face would not now be adorning the covers of magazines. He phrased his hope in a way that drew maximum attention to himself, offered maximum benefit to the administration and did maximum harm to the party he claims to support…
In the days since I stumbled into this controversy, I’ve received a great deal of e-mail. (Most of it on days when Levin or Hannity or Hugh Hewitt or Limbaugh himself has had something especially disobliging to say about me.) Most of these e-mails say some version of the same thing: if you don’t agree with Rush, quit calling yourself a conservative and get out of the Republican Party. There’s the perfect culmination of the outlook Rush Limbaugh has taught his fans and followers: we want to transform the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan into a party of unanimous dittoheads—and we don’t care how much the party has to shrink to do it. That’s not the language of politics. It’s the language of a cult.”

David Frum is a nobody. Rush Limbaugh is the man who the Democrats and the crap Rino’s FEAR!!!!!!!
Mercy4Me on March 8, 2009 at 11:12 AM
David Fruit-of-the-loom? Never heard of him.
As for Rush, he’s living proof that we can arbitrarily select (at random) a fat, obnoxious, loud-mouthed, red-neck that is perpetually overdosed on pain pills, give him a microphone with a radio broadcast beacon, and within a matter of days, we can make him look like a certified genius — when he is compared alongside any of the scum bags in the Obama administration (including the slave trader in chief).
My collie says:
If this guy wants to see a REAL cult, he’s barking up the wrong tree. He should take a hard look at Obama’s former pastor and his flock (a.k.a. the Reverend Wright and all those that adhere to black liberation theology).
CyberCipher on March 8, 2009 at 11:28 AM
Yeah, how is Black Liberation Theology not like Scientology?
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 11:51 AM
Doesn’t this kind of response qualify as the reaction of a cultist? “I don’t need to read the article because I just know
the dear leaderRush is right”Rush would do well to shed a little weight if he wants to be around for many more years.
Bradky on March 8, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Misocnceptions of Rush Limbaugh:
1)That he is loud and abrasive
2)That he is a bully
3)That he is a right-wing nut job in the mode of Timothy McVey
4)That he cuts people off that phone in
5)That he is a racist
6)That Rush is some sort of demagogue and that Rush’s audience are mind-numbed robots who await his marching orders
7)That Rush is a Fascist
8)That Rush supported George W Bush 100% of the time
9)That all Rush is concerned about is his ratings, his fame, and his money and that he really doesn’t believe in what he says
10)That Rush is just a hatemonger and does not suggest any solutions to problems.

Ah, the old standby. When you can’t refute an argument, insult a physical trait.
Brilliant!

Fixed it for ya
Bradky on March 8, 2009 at 2:32 PM
you don’t wish for Rush to live a very long and fruitful life?
Bradky on March 8, 2009 at 2:33 PM
I already said in the previous post why I supported Rush’s comment.
How much of Obama’s stimulus was targeted, timely or specific? Yet, these trillions he spent officially make our country financially insolvent. We’re in a deflationary cycle. If Obama and the geniuses running our monetary policy, appointed by the President (Geithner, pretty much winging it by himself) don’t suck the money back out with perfect timing, we’ll have inflation. Maybe even hyperinflation, a total currency collapse.
All you can do is tell fat jokes about a radio show host. How would reading the entire article of Frum’s (and I have never agreed with him; I live in Canada and put up with their crap anti-Americanism all the time) elaborate any more on the quote that was already pulled? I don’t WANT to click on Newsweek or read more of Frum — who is not even conservative by Canadian standards — than I have to.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 2:44 PM
If it had been phrased that way, nobody could have used Limbaugh’s words to misrepresent conservatives as clueless, indifferent or gleeful in the face of the most painful economic crisis in a generation.
Really, Bradky, don’t you think Frum made his point right there? Anything else you think we might have missed?
For the record, if Rush Limbaugh had minced his words, he would have failed to articulate the point that really rankles with this administration: Barack Obama is a Marxist. Winning an election has not changed that. It has given him what he considers a mandate… “I won.” But America is still a center right country; the majority of Americans believe in capitalism and personal liberty. As Europe crumbles, that option looks less appealing.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 2:49 PM
Most real conservatives since Obama won the election, those who believe in God and identify as Christians, have been praying for Jesus Christ to change Obama’s heart. That is the only thing we can do, besides burn up the switchboards at the Capitol and vote in 2010.

I stand by my initial assessment of you. You howl at the moon because someone may take the Dear Leader out of context yet will take one quote from an article and claim you know the entire context. Then you go on to claim that you know what the prayers of “real conservatives” have been.
Hypocrisy and audacity fit you well.

FIFY
You have failed to elaborate on Frum’s article, if you felt that quote did not accurately sum it up, as you have failed in so many of your other ad hominem attacks and weak logic.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 3:49 PM
Axelrod has called in for troll reinforcements.
Rush, you magnificent bastard!
technopeasant on March 8, 2009 at 3:49 PM
LOL. Who wrote the book on audacity? Oh, yeah. Your Dear Leader.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 3:50 PM
So why is it wrong to want an incompetent leader to fail? And why is wrong for anyone to say that’s how they feel? Personally I don’t see any reason to even argue about Rush’s comment. He’s entitled to his opinion, right or wrong. It’s convenient for everyone who’s complaining about this to forget the constant criticism, and worse, aimed at GWB and for that matter most Presidents. Geez this whole thing is just an excuse to argue when the time could be spent discussing far more important matters. Seems to be a typical thing for Allah to do, especially lately. So is it just a matter of needing the hits to the site?
Deanna on March 8, 2009 at 4:19 PM
In the time you have spent throwing your insults my way you could have read the article several times. You are afraid of truth and objectivity – I get that loud and clear. Keep the blinders on firmly as you sail over the edge of the cliff with the other lemmings…
Bradky on March 8, 2009 at 4:59 PM
I was reading other articles and other comments that I found more interesting than yours. You are no one to recommend reading assignments to me, when you cannot even make a persuasive argument for yourself.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 5:02 PM
Here’s what Ace of Spades had to say about Frum:
Go call him a lemming. He’ll rip you a new one worse than I did.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Does Hotair put trolls on the payroll? Because it seems this site is getting a lot more traffic than Newsweek, and you don’t really have to read that much Frump to get the gist of what he’s saying.
chunderroad on March 8, 2009 at 5:12 PM
The most in-depth analysis of this has been done by Jeff Goldstein.
He’s asked for commenting privileges here to no avail.
