Video: Whoopi discovers she doesn’t like tax hikes
posted at 8:23 pm on March 6, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
The moment of truth comes at about 3:30 in this edited clip from The View today, but there are more goodies here, too. Before we get to Whoopi’s explicitly but mildly Howard Beale-esque rant, another member of the View quartet attempts to lecture Obama critics on respect for the office of the Presidency — which brings a snort of scorn from Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who wonders when suddenly dissent stopped being cool.
Wallow, my friends, in the warm flood of hypocrisy.

The TV was left on and I actually saw this part when it came on this morning. It was a really weird discussion. I don’t think they realized that the bumper sticker was a jab on Obama. Can’t be sure though since I missed the beginning. And then the topic about taxes by Whoopi was hilarious. I was like WTF? And the talk about dissent was funny since they sorta had to realize how much of hypocrites they were. Joy was especially contorted.
MrX on March 6, 2009 at 11:57 PM
Whoopi, BO’s got you covered, not only is he going to raise your taxes, he’ll raise your breasts if he thought he could collect.

This is the whole stupid plan. This will ruin America forever. Can we talk about that flat tax thing again. The only way out of this nightmare is going to be the complete overhaul of the system to get rid of the deadbeats and make taxes impact everyone.
petunia on March 6, 2009 at 11:58 PM
OK, this is a TRUE story. While I was in the local fish market, someone called on the phone and asked the fishmonger if they sold live blue claw crabs. The fishmonger replied, yes and said they were $2.49 each. The caller then asked if they took foodstamps.
Now, I myself don’t buy live crabs because they are too expensive and we have a decent income, but I think we should all take comfort in the fact that our tax dollars help provide gourmet foods to those in need.

ow all of a sudden their screaming because obama might be comming after them.
i find it ery funny that now the poor hollywood traitors dont like socialism especially when it means all of these hollywood liberals

Crusty on March 7, 2009 at 12:59 AM
YES! They are so utterly full of shit! As soon as these people make any real money they get accountants and lawyers and set up ESTATE PLANS. There is no other reason to do this except to minimize taxes and preserve wealth. Oh, and don’t forget that they live in walled estates with full security measures in place.
I don’t think these things are wrong except when you claim that the rich don’t pay enough taxes and you believe in gun control. Hypocrisy to the n’th degree!

Elections have consequences and here we are six weeks along and we’re already well into, I Told You So!!!

Texyank on March 7, 2009 at 1:24 AM
Joy Behar is the most annoying woman on TV today. Her voice alone scars my ear drums.
I really want Whoopie to keep an open mind and apply her obvious intelligence to whatever is RIGHT (as in correct) and not simply whatever is LEFT (as in politics).
Joy, however, is beyond help. If I count the number of logical fallacies she uses on any given day and turn them in for dollars, then Obama would tax me over 70%.
Joy really is a moron. Whoopie is smart but overly partisan. Elizabeth–adorable, smart but shouted down.
The other one? Who cares.

Where have you been Whoopi…asleep I suppose?? Too bad, because your friend BO wants your hard-earned dough + more if you make over 250K which will put you in a higher tax bracket once the Bush tax cuts expire!! You’ve been suckered big-time-LOL!!

Now the Cackling Class figures dissent is ok, but we need to respect the office of the President!??!? UN. FREAKING. BELIEVABLE. Hypocrisy you can believe in.
swede7 on March 7, 2009 at 4:42 AM
Wow. Where do you even start attacking the hypocrisy and willful self-deceit required to be a Democrat?
The left is still attacking President Bush. Even Zero is still doing it as he stumbles thru his first 100 days.
Nobody will have to wait 6 months to see how incompetent he is. Even Zero himself is claiming he expected better results from socialism. To admit that this early is a clear indicator of how harmful his decisions have been.
I think he knows now that the critics were right. His policies made things worse – much worse. They are talking about a decade for recovery now.
So he attacks Limbaugh and others to distract from the real issue. He fails and it’s Rush’s fault for hoping for failure. He issues attacks against Rick Santelli for daring to question his failed policies, thus creating another straw man distraction.
Mr Purple on March 7, 2009 at 5:17 AM
Whoopie is upset because of federal tax raise, state tax raise, phone tax raise, television tax raise, city tax raise…..and she makes a great income. What about the rest of us who aren’t in her bracket? Those raises are affecting us as well and we don’t make the millions that she does!!! The democrat montra that “We will raise taxes on the wealthiest…” is BS! ALL OF OUR TAXES ARE GOING UP TO PAY FOR OBAMA’S SOCIALIST PLAN!

Take a look at the weekly job losses for since the Sept stock market crash. It’s an exponential growth rate. If current trends continue:
-national unemployment will double to 20% in March (rpt in April)
-stock market loses 100-150pts a day=4000′s by April or LESS/not more
-housing, another 300000-400000 Americans will lose their homes if the current rate continues
-Fed govt is spending 400-500Billion a week since O took office=2 trillion more this month
Now tell me, where’s the tipping point? Clue, Gallup has Obama’s disapproval climbing faster than approval is falling. Current track has his approval at or below 50% by April, and disapproval, HARD opposition numbers, right there at the 50%, even into 50′s. The only way to get those disapprovals down is to get people jobs, and stimulus doesn’t do that until 2010/2011 at BEST. The home thing he passed only helps people w good credit, not people who lost jobs and can’t pay bills. Boomers are retiring NOW and need their 401k money so to get them back the market has to get back up. Until he does all three (which ain’t possible), his disapproval numbers grow w each layoff, each foreclosure, each person who can’t retire, each family that’s lost their life savings, and each person who doesn’t get a raise this year, but sees their taxes on electricity, etc go up (remember, no more itemized deduction bonus next year).
I believe the tipping point is a 30 day period between now and April 7.

I’d like to smack Whoopi upside the back of the head for voting for the One, but I get a little joy in seeing reality beginning to dawn over the land of Obama euphoria that is her mind.

I feel dumber every time I watch a View clip… I’m just wanting to jump in and say “You idiots…” and then rant at them for 10 minutes. Elizabeth just doesn’t have it in her and she let’s them shut her down, whether she realizes it or not.
First of all, for Joy to call anything “nasty”, is just ridiculous. Especially when it’s a very mild and good natured bumper sticker to doesn’t personally attack her messiah. I can’t believe that spawned that whole stupid discussion.
No point in going over the rest… we all know how we got here and why “giving it time” isn’t an option when what we’re giving time is aimed at making this worse.
RightWinged on March 7, 2009 at 8:12 AM
Whoops. Whoopie wants the Prez to layoff her pay. OK let’s just lay off the View all together because it’s not balanced (mentally).
MSGTAS on March 7, 2009 at 8:31 AM
2 things I have learned from watching the view on Hotair and Newsbusters
1. Joy says things that are not true constantly – obama voted against the war – how did he do that? did congress go to illinois to ask their opinion? my vote for the war as a citizen was as effective as obama’s vote against it
2. Whoopi is a conservative, she just does not realize it. Last year she was pissed because she was not getting a stimulus check – she was against the idea, but her logic was if the govt is giving back money, well I gave a lot to them – how about giving me some back?

“I don’t want to get it coming and going”…
Uhhhh….WHAT did you think that you were voting for? All of those promises fullfilled were going to be FOR FREE?
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to sit and have a 20 minute conversation with the woman just to ask her those questions because it makes my brain melt to contemplate someone voting for Obama and knowing that it would give carte blanche to Congress, and then have someone say “I don’t want this”.
YOU GOT WHAT YOU ASKED FOR. You got exactly what you asked for. Not only are you going to pay for it coming and going, you’re going to give up the middle, too.
I’m sorry but that there is some serious blindness as to what was coming.
I will also say that I can go ahead and judge Obama after 30 days considering the massive number of braindead moves he’s made since the inauguration. If he was moving slow, I would be slow to judgement, but that guy is moving at warp speed.
Here’s the real question: How long will it take for the KoolAid to wear off? How much of America’s net worth has to be decimated for Whoopi to go “whoops, my bad!”…?

Since we’re so interested in becoming Europe- how about a 10% net worth tax on net worths exceeding $10 million?
We could call it a Kennedy tax. Then the truly wealthy can really contribute to the extrication of this country from the mess they’ve created.
Spielberg, Streisand and all the rest who always are telling us that they’re willing to pay more- let’s give them a chance to put their money where their mouths are.

Yesterday I was reading an article about the man with the camera cell phone who was photographed taking a picture of Michelle Obama serving food as he was waiting in line for his free meal at a homeless shelter. Commenters were asking how he could afford a camera cell phone. Turns out that there is a government program to provide free cell phones (with free service too, of course) to the “poor.”
Free food, free money, free cell phones (& cell phone service), free medical care . . . . Makes you wonder what incentive these people have to ever get a job and behave responsibly. Being a government dependent is just too sweet a deal.
AZCoyote on March 7, 2009 at 10:47 AM
I agree to your sentiment. Whoopi and the other lib hens (excuse my bluntness) practically gave him a BJ on air during his View interview. And then they turned around and practically treated McCain and his wife like they were facing a firing squad.
If Whoopi feels this way now, she owes it to America and to the McCains to come out and publicly apologize for endorsing obama the way she did. (Not saying I value her opinion at all, but I’m sure she managed to sway the votes of many in her mind-numb audience.)

I want my gubment crabs. I paid $24 for a pound of crab meat (lump, mmmmm) to make crabcakes for Valentine’s dinner. It is something I only buy for very special occasions. We don’t have the money to eat out, and we get tired of chicken and rice, spaghetti, and the fish special at the grocery store. That’s it, I’m giving up responsibility and going on food stamps. Working is for suckers.

Do they ever resolve any deep burning questions on this show? I didn’t want to open my window. Rather, I found myself just screaming at the TV. “You crazy, bitches!”
Obama never voted against the war. He was not in the Senate.
Taxes should go to national security issues like the war.
If you want spending on domestic policies, don’t lie and call it stimulus, because people who invest in the market know a lie when they hear one. Then the market tanks.
Obama said he had a plan for the economy. 67% of voters in the 2008 election identified the economy as their biggest and most pressing concern.
What plan has Obama offered, even two months into office? He can’t even staff his administration. What was touted as “the smoothest transition EVAH” has been almost as much of a failure as Zachary Taylor’s cabinet appointments.
I like Elizabeth Hasselback, but she can’t get in too many comments with that PMS sewing circle of Democratic party butterfaces and turkey necks. Republicans should be making these points I just listed when they go the record. We have Michael Steele, instead.

I believe the Hollywood acting set is a vast untapped resource for the advancement of wealth redistribution. I say tax them until it hurts. The chattering classes are taxed til it hurts, so why not actors? What sets them apart from us, other than their money?? Plus, the film industry is responsible for a tremendous amount of waste and pollution, and they are lackluster energy stewards. Not to mention the poor animals that are tortured and maimed so that actors may have fake breasts, noses, lips, cheeks, and chins! Private jets, gas guzzling cars, chemical pollutants, cruelty to animals, enormous trash generation. I don’t care if they tax Ms. Whoopi out the wazoo, she’s got it to share. Salary caps would be nice, too. Anyone?
bloggless on March 7, 2009 at 4:47 PM
At least we didn’t have to watch Rosie implode or hang upside down like a rabid bat in this clip.
I quit caring what Whoopie thought when she performed her less than tasteful x-rated tirade against President Bush in 2004 during a fundraiser for Kerry/Edwards.
Of course, she came out on Air America with this statement about her beloved Dems not too long afterwards saying
Since fawning over Obama during the election, I suppose she’s now swinging back to the middle. What a surprise. Back off my foot.
As for Joy B..let her lie in the bed she helped make..and Lord help anyone that is brave enough to get in there with her. She’s a total waste of skin. She not only has no idea what she is talking about (why confuse the truth with silly things like facts), she is mean-spirited and nasty on top of it all.
I can’t even manage to spare a Southern “Bless their hearts” when I think of them.

It’s rather ironic that the Democrats, who are constantly calling to bring back the military draft, purportedly, to share the burden of war, want to eliminate the tax burden from their constituents. Well, I suppose it’s not really ironic, just craven & self-serving, since their real objective is to create a permanent majority against all wars by instituting the draft.
