The moment of truth comes at about 3:30 in this edited clip from The View today, but there are more goodies here, too. Before we get to Whoopi’s explicitly but mildly Howard Beale-esque rant, another member of the View quartet attempts to lecture Obama critics on respect for the office of the Presidency — which brings a snort of scorn from Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who wonders when suddenly dissent stopped being cool.

At one point (~4:30 mark) there’s a lot of crosstalk about how it goes back to the last administration, etc. etc. and then Whoopi says this:
What is she talking about!? The federal budget has increased every year since Clinton in 1996 — probably farther, I didn’t look. And twenty years ago people in her bracket would have been taxed at 28%, now almost 40%. I’d love to know what’s been cut. We have certainly not, as she said, been getting rid of things.

I had this show on in the background as I was working today and heard this discussion. It was funny because I don’t think whoopi MEANT to say that she didn’t like the tax hikes. She was thinking as she was talking and she just finally realized that the CITY of NY, the STATE of NY, and the FEDS all have eyes on her income. With the bump in the Fed rate, the 1 to 2 % that both the state and the city will take, AND the inevitable elimination on the cap of SS taxes, I think Whoopi is actually smart enough to realize that she is now going to take home less than 40% of her gross pay, aftter they get done grabbing her income. Welcome to the eeeeeeeeeeevvvillllllll rich Whoopi!! You reap what you sow when you side with the party that promotes class warfare.
I think Elizabeth finally got on the fax broadcast from the RNC. She is more effectively defending her positions lately. Behar just looks even more stupid than she is.

Every time I listen to Joy Behar (it never happens on purpose) she’s talking about those damned SURPLUSES as though it was some miracle Clinton produced. I want to tie the ignorant biddy hen in a chair, duct tape her annoying mouth, and lecture her about where those surpluses came from and where they went. I DETEST listening to her ignorance.
About half of the surplus was an accounting trick with Social Security, and was nothing but smoke and mirrors. About 1/4 was the austerity of the Republicans in Congress, and about 1/4 was the Internet bubble. The damned fools in Congress immediately spent something like 80% of the surpluses on new programs — that was mostly Democrats, but some Republicans. Then the Internet bubble burst, and the economy tanked because of the Enron/Worldcom scandals and 9/11.
So, Joy Behar, you ignorant biddy hen, what did Clinton do to produce those surpluses? Abso-bloody-lutely nothing. And what did Bush do to ‘waste’ those surpluses? Abso-bloodly-lutely nothing. So how are Democrats superior to Republicans? In no way; the real lesson here is that the Republicans did the right thing in Congress during the 1990s.

New and expanded refundable tax credits would raise the fraction of taxpayers paying no income taxes to almost 50% from 38%. This is potentially the most pernicious feature of the president’s budget, because it would cement a permanent voting majority with no stake in controlling the cost of general government.

Here’s one thing I don’t get. This show is supposedly aimed at stay at home mom types. But aren’t stay at home mom types typically Republican? Or at least if not Republican, they’re not leftist loons as a group.
