Ramirez picks up the Nero theme
posted at 8:57 am on March 6, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
On Wednesday, I wrote that the main theme of the first six weeks of the new administration was this: Obama fiddled with Rush Limbaugh while Wall Street burned. It turns out that Investors Business Daily editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez was on the same wavelength. Today’s entry by the two-time Pulitzer winner captures this perfectly, extending it to the entire Democratic political leadership (via Power Line):

Ramirez has a terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives a fascinating look at political history. Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here. And don’t forget to check out the entire IBD site, while individual investors still exist.

And keep in mind the recession started a year before the banks collapsed.

Keep in mind that the recession started with a Democratic congress.
It’s a Pelosi/Reid/Frank/Dodd recession.
Furthermore, Depression V. 2.0 is courtesy of Barack Obama.

Oh, and you do know how our government works, right? Bush couldn’t just wave his presidential wand and make things happen, unlike the thinking of the savoir.

The RATS will claim the Housing crisis is Bush’s. He actually did nothing about it but it was the creation of Barney Frank. He set it in motion and then spent his time getting buggered in his Washington residence while it fell apart. Now he has the gall to blame others…

More liberal elitism arrogance.
The democrats are sure the unwashed masses are too ignorant to notice that ObaMcCarthy is attacking a private citizen rather than change the tone and operation of Washington politics.
Of course they are completely justified in this attitude after watching 75% of this country either vote for a Marxist or not care enough to vote against him. And then we have these so-called “conservatives” who bought into the first bailout. Now that their treason against conservative principles is exposed in all it’s ugliness, these self same loudmouths have conveniently crawled back into the woodwork. We told them that the first bailout would spawn more bailouts AND encourage Americans to stop being responsible.
We need to polarize the conservative movement in order to force the RINO’s to pick a side and stick with it come hell or high water.

It’s new to me but I have found myself discussing such things with my friends, what we would do if the shiite really hits the fan. We talk about how the city dwellers would react, where they would go and what they would do when they got there.
The idea of a community defense arrangement was thrown out there for consideration, though I don’t know if the actual formation of such a thing would even be possible in my environs.

Check out wikipedia on Fannie Mae, especially the part about controversy and early warnings.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fannie_mae
Basically, Clinton pushed through looser regs in 1999, Bush tried to get tougher regs in place, Barney Frank & Dems lobbied against it, Fannie Mae pressured Dems and Repubs, and nothing was done.
Bush said what needed to be done. With the Iraq war, the economy doing okay, etc. I think he just saw this as a fight he couldn’t win and didn’t engage.
Bush understood the wisdom of “choose your battles.” Obama doesn’t. Hence Gibbs vs. Limbaugh.
cs89 on March 6, 2009 at 11:01 AM
except that FDR did NOT fix it. He had his financial balls in a vice and couldn’t spend his way out of it. The “New Deal” didn’t work then, and it hasn’t worked to this day. the ONLY thing that set these United States to right, financially, was our entry into WWII.
You cannot SPEND your way out of this mess. you cannot CREATE jobs by making more GOVERNMENT jobs. the government hasn’t got ANY money. It gets it’s funds from OUR wallets, through onerous taxation. 600,000 new government employees means that we basically have 600,000 new welfare recipients, because government, by it’s very nature CANNOT create anything. It simply uses other people’s money to accomplish tasks. it makes no profit. It will take nearly 100 American workers to pay the taxes to employ 1 government worker. Do the math, bright boy. If the “lightworker” wants to make 600,000 new government jobs, he needs to find 60,000,000 new workers to pay for them, OR increase the taxes on those same workers to fund his “new” jobs. That ain’t gonna happen.
We need to stop spending NOW, and start CUTTING programs to balance the government’s budget. That is the ONLY way this gets under control.
And BTW, Bush went to Congress 5 frikkin’ times to ask them to increase oversight and controls on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He pointed out the coming problems, but Nancy & Harry refused to listen.
That’s reality, Boyo. You are welcome to your own opinion, but you are NOT welcome yo your own facts.

I will concede that Bush should have used the veto pen. He allowed the democrat congress to spend and waste too much money, while many Republicans stood by.
But that does not mean that increasing spending, increasing taxes, increasing waste will help. It obviously does not.
The liberals point out how Bush got us into this recession by over spending…but the libs embrace the off the chart, record spending in just the first few weeks.
If it was bad for Bush…it is horrible and a disaster for Obama.
Their argument, basically states, that their candidate (Obama) is worse then Bush.
It is a weird way to debate…our candidate is worse then yours, but yours started it?
