Quotes of the Day

posted at 10:30 pm on March 6, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Democrats, January 13, 2009:

A spokeswoman for one of the architects of a national health care bill said that any legislation that emerges would be named after Kennedy.

“He wouldn’t name it for himself, but the majority of the body working on the legislation would say he’s devoted his life to it,” said Jude McCartin, a spokeswoman for Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., a member of Kennedy’s committee. “Now that we’re on the verge of doing something major, the naming of the legislation should reflect his longstanding involvement[.]“

Democrats, March 6th, 2009:

On his radio show, Limbaugh said President Barack Obama’s proposed health care revisions will be championed by “the liberal lion Teddy Kennedy.”

“Before it’s all over, it’ll be called the Ted Kennedy Memorial Health Care bill,” Limbaugh said.

Brian Wolff, executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, called the remark outrageous and reprehensible.

If I remember right, the Congress does not pay into Social Security and have their own pension plan……..

Now, if I die, all the money I have put into the system over my life of working goes back into the system, my family is left to my investments, savings, proactive planning, and what’s left after being taxed again……

I am sure Ted Kennedy will have written a bill to make the playing game fair for all Americans before he passes…….

……….. I am sure of it. As sure as Mr. Teleprompter loves the United States of America.

Seven Percent Solution on March 6, 2009 at 11:39 PM

It should be the Kopechne Health Care Bill, considering how much she sacrificed for Kennedy.

If she had a terminal disease, then no, no one would be outraged. If the Dem took delight in the fact that she was going to die, then yes, we would be outraged, as we are every time Democrats do show that ugly side of themselves, cheering on the deaths of those they disagree with politically, but stating a fact is stating a fact. (If that is all that is said)

Esthier on March 6, 2009 at 11:41 PM

Sorry, this is why Rush is a good man to have on our side. He is outrageous and loves the attention this remark is going to draw. Meanwhile, you know damn rite well Kennedy is going to die and then the drama of a memorial bill will be tough to challenge. It would be spun by the media as cold hearted Republicans, blah, blah, blah…..

msmveritas on March 6, 2009 at 11:43 PM

A local radio show host, after hearing that the UK had knighted Mr Chappaquiddick, referred to Ted the Magnificent as “Sir Tumor.”

I was gonna call in and complain, but was laughing too hard.

Besides, a mere K wouldn’t do that. He’d have to be made “Lord Tumor.”

MrScribbler on March 6, 2009 at 11:46 PM

Let’s get one thing straight, folks here aren’t dancing in the streets that Teddy is dying. The folks are yelling down the street that the Democraps would honor Teddy for protecting his johnson instead of protecting Mary Jo. He deserves no honor. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. I don’t give a rat’s patudy for his politics but don’t wish him dead. What I wish is for him to SWEAT, everyday, that someone is going to remember Mary Jo.

They could call it the Tedogator.

I am so sick of the media and Democrats pretending that Ted Kennedy is some sort of icon that can’t be criticized.

The man is a drunk and a murderer.

Norwegian on March 6, 2009 at 11:51 PM

Rush should apologize to Fat Ted IF and and only if Kennedy apologizes to the family of Mary Jo Kopechne for his actions on the night of her death. To this day he’s never done that.

Percy_Peabody on March 6, 2009 at 11:51 PM

Ted Kennedy has already been given a death sentence (frankly we’re all handed one as soon as we are conceived in our mother’s womb). Rush isn’t wishing Ted Kennedy dies he simply knows it is a fact that he will and very soon. I don’t understand the logic behind your comment besides a mindless “Rush = Evil”.

So basically the more helpless the person gets in terms of their health, the more bets are off when you talk about them.

Wow. The values party.

Liberals are really quite caring and thoughtful people.

myrenovations on March 7, 2009 at 12:04 AM

Actually, having read some of these examples of death wishes, it would seem that liberals want healthy people to get sick and die while conservatives acknowledge that someone has a terminal illness and will eventually depart this life.

Apologies in advance. I’d rather be correct, than politically so.

The first thing that “Sir Kennedy” should have done, if he were truly concerned about health care, would have been to drag his drowning girlfriend from his car. That would have been “health care”.

The sooner he’s room temperature, the sooner justice will be served.

And when he’s gone, he should be buried at sea, with no fanfare. Good riddance Toddy.

radiofreevillage on March 6, 2009 at 11:55 PM

What? No, I don’t think that’s what Ed or Rush is saying (though, yes, some people here are saying that). But to pretend that someone isn’t dying when he is dying, is a bit ridiculous and not at all cruel to recognize the truth.

If Bush or any Republican were dying, it wouldn’t be inconsiderate to acknowledge that and to acknowledge that the death would be recognized by the GOP however possible.

Now, as I’ve said before, going any further into actually cheering on his death, is something else altogether.

Esthier on March 7, 2009 at 12:18 AM

Our collective hearts bleed for your Teddy. Make sure you apologize to Mary Jo when God boots your drunk ass out of heaven. I have nothing for this bag of bile. Next.

smfoushee on March 7, 2009 at 12:19 AM

I don’t think anyone is cheering his death, but he was no saint. He is a murderer and a drunk and he has done more to destroy this country than we will ever know.

HornetSting on March 7, 2009 at 12:20 AM

I’m sorry, Finch was on TV selling a Slapchop. I got distracted.

Please understand. It is sad that Teddy has Cancer. Cancer is never something to be happy over. However, if you think the Democrats have the moral high ground, you need to change your medication.

kingsjester on March 7, 2009 at 12:25 AM

God gave Teddy time to become Catholic again–to repent, to confess, to do penance, to have a chance at redemption. That is mercy that we humans can’t possibly offer. Whether he takes God up on the offer is another matter, and one I won’t speculate upon, but those who are offended by Rush Limbaugh mentioning that he’s terminal haven’t a clue. I doubt that, at this point, Teddy is listening to any of this anyway–he has more pressing things on his mind, such as eternal damnation. A saint would pray that he could escape that–but not many of us are that good.

BTW, Rush made that comment well over a year ago when Kennedy was originally diagnosed and word was put out that he was busy in the hospital writing the health plan. Now, please tell me why it is OK for the left to use sympathy for the sick to push through a horrible takeover of a major portion of the US economy, yet it is off limits to point that out? AZfederalist on March 7, 2009 at 12:54 AM

It is a just little outrageous to use the word Memorial but I think the democrats are shocked at having their own tactics used against them for once. Republican staffers need to do 10 minutes of research for their bosses and give them some recent quotes from democrat talking heads that can be used to rebutt the inevitable “do you agree with the latest Rush (leader of the GOP) statement about blah blah blah”. Just throw it back in their faces and move on. I’m tired of the republican party as a whole being held accountable for every single utterance of one radio host.

Or is he directly responsible for abortions as well as being a supporter for abortion rights. I wonder if failing to stand up for our troops in Viet Nam and in the current situtation… I wonder how much blood he will have to account for.

Yeah that’s the guy who should get something named for him alright.

The Kennedy family did suffer for this country that is true. But as far as Teddy’s contributions… The bad out weighs the good.

I’m not saying I don’t feel sorry for his loss. At first I thought of the impact on history his family has had…
But I just don’t admire him as a person.

And he is a big reason Obama is where he is. That will do more damage to this country than his whole family ever did for it.

MB4 on March 7, 2009 at 1:27 AM

While I hate to see any person suffer, I also find it insufferable that the Democrats would use a man’s failing health (and very likely his passing) to push a political agenda as divisive and socialist as this.

It’s appalling.

The RNC needs to get its act together and take back Congress.

Our country isn’t headed towards Politics as usual, it’s headed towards collapse with Democrats chipping away at our country’s foundation.

The irony is, of course, that Rush is right – Kennedy will pass before this becomes law. Ordinarily, such a title would be considered noble if bestowed posthumously. Now they can’t call it that lest Limbaugh be vindicated. That’s likely what’s really frustrating them.

Everyone knows that any health care bill would have had Ted Kennedy’s name blazoned on it well before his brain cancer diagnosis. The Kennedy family is dedicated to celebrating itself as aristocracy practicing noblesse oblige toward the serfs.

What should also have had his name on it was the No Child Left Behind legislation, where in the spirit of bipartisanship, President Bush ceded the details to Ted Kennedy to craft. Instead, the Dems and their enablers in the NEA insist on attacking W for that bill.

Had Ted Kennedy any sense of statesmanship, he would have resigned from his senate seat when the terminal diagnosis was made. Instead ego and legacy shaped his decision to remain as the Massachusetts senior senator.

The Kennedy family is graceless and self-serving. I pray that Ted Kennedy reconciles himself with his Maker for the damage that he has inflicted on individuals and the nation to serve his bloated self-importance.

So basically the more helpless the person gets in terms of their health, the more bets are off when you talk about them.

Wow. The values party.

radiofreevillage on March 6, 2009 at 11:55 PM

Ah, lessons in morality from the party that orgasmed upon learning that Tony Snow’s cancer had returned. If you want to get a good idea of the “values” of your own party, go back and take a look at some of the many comments at Dim sites exulting in the fact of Snow’s impending demise.

Apparently he used to be a well respected journalist.

BrideOfRove on March 7, 2009 at 7:05 AM

No. He was a newsreader on our local NYC NBC affiliate for years, and is well-known around here. But I think it’s reasonable to say that he was never a journalist or well-respected.

JiangxiDad on March 7, 2009 at 7:29 AM

I just understood it as a statement that it’s going to take them so long to work on the bill, Kennedy would be dead before they could get anything passed.

It certainly doesn’t seem to me that they’ll be able to get anything coherent together this year – they’re having a hard enough time getting a standard spending bill through. And a healthcare bill will be even more contentious, especially as I expect to hear about Medicare costs and it’s very soon to come insolvency (by Congressional accounting standards, which are loose enough as it is).

We could hope, but I should remind you of TARP 2, there was a well thought out piece of legislation that took a long time to pass huh?

Sure, if a dem said Mrs. Bush is going to die you would be outraged.

getalife on March 6, 2009 at 10:49 PM

I’m gonna die, you’re gonna die, Mrs. Bush is gonna die. Get a grip, man.

jimmy2shoes on March 7, 2009 at 7:57 AM

THE QUESTION IS: Would this plan “approve” the expensive treatment that OLD Ted is getting for his brain tumor? Nope.

marklmail on March 7, 2009 at 8:05 AM

And when he’s gone, he should be buried at sea, with no fanfare. Good riddance Toddy.

realitycheck on March 7, 2009 at 12:07 AM

Here, here. Except why desecrate the graves of gallant sailors and his nephew, who I thought was a decent and honorable man?

Just let him rot. As Clint Eastwood said in “The Outlaw Josey Wales” Buzzard’s gotta eat, same as worms.”

hilarious!

What would you pay for this ingenious modern marvel?

Don’t answer yet. If you call in the next 10 minutes (cuz we can’t do this all day) we’ll throw in these classy california jams just in case you have to swim to shore, or across a 500-foot channel, back to your hotel room, where you can collapsed on your bed from a hard night of Naviteddying.

I think the new healthcare act should be named the Mary Jo Missed Opportunity Act . I find it ironic that a president whoe refused to provide his medical records wants all of mine online. I’ll go for the new health care sham when I see Obama and family, all members of congress, all judges etc. standing in line at the clinic. In other words, YOU FIRST!!

Nicely stated, as usual…

Ted Kennedy should have been kicked out of office by the people of Mass., as well as by the DNC. If you or I did what Teddy did that night, leaving a woman to die in order to cover his own ass, we’d be in prison and rightfully so. This man was allowed to serve in the United States Senate for most of his adult life following such a crime. This simple fact makes a mockery of the US Congress. We have absolute criminals serving in Congress today, and these people are writing our laws. I don’t care of they have a (D) or an (R) in front of their names, a criminal is a criminal. Our politicians are above the laws that they write for us average citizens, and Ted Kennedy is living proof of this fact.

Keemo on March 7, 2009 at 8:44 AM

Democrats would never let the opportunity go to use the death (or prospect of it) of one of their own to advance their agenda. Just look at how they treated the Paul Wellstone Memorial which turned into a raucus campaign rally as they booed republicans and screamed “do it for Paul!”

Now they can do it for Ted!

Democrats are sick people.

John Doe on March 7, 2009 at 8:49 AM

I have no ill wishes for Ted Kennedy.

I only wish that he is judged according to his faith, and that he be rewarded accordingly.

I wish divine justice for Kennedy, just as I wish it for you and for myself.

Immolate on March 7, 2009 at 8:53 AM

I don’t wish any ill for Kennedy, but we all know what is coming. He has terminal cancer, and he is going to be leaving soon. Facts are facts, and Rush is merely stating fact here by saying that, at this rate, the bill will be a memorial.

Had Rush said, “Hurry up and die, you old murderer,” there might be room for a bit of outrage, even though, again, there’s a grain of truth to that statement.

Here’s the donkey template:
1) Anything Rush says must be wrong and Anti-Democratic.
2) As it is wrong and Anti-Democratic, it is also offensive.
3) As it is offensive, it must be used to further the advance of Fairness Doctrine aspirations.

flutejpl on March 7, 2009 at 9:11 AM

I’ll be brief, because as I say on the ShamWow commercials, “we don’t have all day”…..

The Kennedy family = Bootlegging, communist loving, Hitler enabeling, adultry loving, election rigging, manslaughtering and I believe neighbor raping and mudering if you include the cousins.

Vince on March 7, 2009 at 9:11 AM

I don’t care what they call it or who it’s named after, I’m not interested.

Having a dopehead like Ogabe or the morons he appoints making my medical decisions is a bit scary; libs can barely tie their own shoes, I don’t need them making complex health judgements.
