It is my sincere hope to never again read a Hot Air post that references both Meghyn Kelly and a “Victoria’s Secret Show” in such close proximity. And the truly sad part is that not one in three of these socialist propagandists passing as “educators” would be able to do the math to tell you when the first annual meeting and Representative assemby occurred.

If you can read this thank God your teacher was halfway competent because most of them are not.

New Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, hundreds of Miami union and community members and top leaders of the AFL-CIO will gather tonight at the city’s Greater Bethel AME Church for a community forum on working families’ struggles in today’s faltering economy.

The forum kicks off the AFL-CIO Executive Council’s winter meeting, where union leaders will blueprint the union movement’s bargaining, legislative, organizing and political strategies for addressing the economic crisis slamming America’s working families.

One of the top items on the council’s agenda is a discussion of the next steps in the drive to enact the Employee Free Choice Act, to restore workers’ freedom to bargain with their companies for better wages and benefits. In conjunction with the Employee Free Choice Act strategy session, a new study of company interference in workers’ freedom to form unions is set for release Wednesday.

Tomorrow, Solis and the council will meet at Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 349’s union hall where Miami area construction workers will explain how the stalled construction market has cost jobs and put working families in peril. IBEW Local 349 is the site for all the council’s meetings this week.

Florida is a high profile place and screams extravagance. Detroit would have been much better symbolically, if not economically.

And I’ve been to Cleveland in January & February at the IX Center on multiple occassions for conventions and seminars. It was often below zero with the air looking crystalline it was so cold, but this Florida guy still didn’t think it was that bad.

Ya, the Detroit economy badly needs the money, so it makes a lotta sense for the unions to spend their money, er, I mean OUR money in Florida.

You know, a news organization could have asked around about rates and found out that information. Too bad this one didn’t.

For my part, I have no problem with their choice of venue. Wish I could have been there. I do have a problem with two things:

1. Hypocrisy of the press and the Obama administration: FOX was pointing that in a tongue-in-cheek segment. You missed that. Ok. The point you are making (that the Union is paying, let them do as they see fit) is valid. But again, I think you missed the main point.

2. Ed Morrissey doesn’t think Unions are getting Tax Payer Money: Really? Why again did the head of the UAW show up with the auto-manufacturers during the trick-or-treat visit to Washington last year? The check may not be made out in the name of the UAW, but it isn’t rocket science to see who benefits.

Not entirely correct, Ed.

Big bailouts (“loans”) from Uncle Sam to everyone but Ford. They keep employees that they don’t need and can’t afford. Said employees pay union dues from their pay, which they wouldn’t be getting if not for Uncle Sam.

Ed, as I pointed out oh so subtly above, they own their own venue. You can’t get much cheaper than that. (Note that the UAW is an AFL-CIO affiliate).
