What’s the occasion? No occasion, really — except the fact that the guy gave a speech a few weeks ago asserting that the communist agenda’s being fulfilled by Hopenchange. Over to you, Cathy Young:
To those who remember the murderous horror that was the USSR, this flippant use of Communist and Soviet analogies should be deeply offensive, indeed obscene – the right-wing equivalent of the leftist habit of flinging Nazi metaphors at conservatives. Lenin, Stalin and Obama are as much of a trio as Hitler, Mussolini and Bush. Lenin and Stalin did not want to tax the rich a little more; they wanted to confiscate all their property and either kill them or send them to concentration camps (and to eliminate all political opposition and independent opinion)…
No sane person today would argue the merits of communism or Soviet-style socialism vs. democratic capitalism. But the size and role of government in democratic capitalist societies is very much a subject of legitimate debate. Most people favor some balance between security and flexibility, more equality and more individual opportunity. We proponents of small government should be able to argue for flexibility and opportunity without painting the other side as evil – and to criticize the Democrats’ proposals without resorting to a Red Scare.
Of course, demonization cuts both ways. Fairly modest Republican attempts to curb the welfare state have been habitually painted by Democrats as plans to starve orphans and throw grandmas out on the street. Now, we have Republicans equating federal student aid with the gulag. Reasoned debate in politics? More wishful thinking.
Exit question: How thick are the walls of Beck’s bomb shelter? Over/under is two feet.

This interview was hilarious, but at the same time, a little creepy. I can understand a young person claiming to be a Communist, but this guy’s been one for 40 years – and is still shacking it up in the USA, instead of in some actual Communist ‘paradise.’
Glenn Beck is awesome, though. I like how he interviewed an actual socialist the other week too – it gives me an interesting insight into the minds of these people.

We were looking for High Schools for our son. We visited a quaker school near Philly. As we toured, we came to some student artwork and the teacher proudly proclaimed that they do not allow anything about the military.
ME “What happens if my son wants to do ‘God bless the troops’?

I’m not claiming it’s communism… nor do I believe Beck has claimed this. But you cannot deny that socialism has gone from creeping to sweeping in the blink of an eye.
It’s about the road we’re on, AP, and the need to sound the alarm to wake people up before it’s too late. Like preemptive strikes to prevent an attack, we don’t want to wait until full blown socialism, and potentially eventual communism, arrives.

It is multivalent kind of irony.
The communists believe that all men will work “nobly” for the common “good”, with no slackers, etc., in their final Utopian worker’s paradise.
If they only eliminate the “bad” (kulaks,”petit bourgeoisie”, “landlords”, “bloodsucking leeches”, “undesirable class”, etc.) first, they will leave only the “good”.
Capitalists understand that one works best for one’s own interests, which, if they are projected onto society, tend to be realistic, and rational.
And not based on a despotic ideology, but one that can freely adapt to conditions, as needed, and they assume that people are a mixed bag, not an idealized “worker” versus an evil “exploiter”, and run the spectrum from rotten buggers to spotless saints.
Communism is mechanically wishful thinking that turns morbid.
Capitalism is pragmatism that allows each to develop their own talents as they see fit, whether that means being a recluse skinflint or populist philanthropist, depending on their nature.

No, it’s not, not yet anyways. But it’s undeniable that we are moving quickly towards socialism, it’s already here actually. So what is the step after this? It may not be called communism, but it is most certainly going to be centralized control of some sort. Unless we fight back forcefully and God willing peacefully, there is no turning this back. I don’t see the Republicans doing this, quite the contrary, I expect them to try and get rid of the conservatives and embrace liberal policies.
Allah, do you honestly believe that this is just a normal episode in the course of American history? Can you not see this is actually a pivot point? This is anything but normal. Just look at the way they rammed the stimulus, no oversight, there are a lot of draconian regulations in there.
I told a friend that they only have a few months to implement everything they can since this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to change the country in one huge leap.
They must do it to ensure electoral victories for whatever time this nation has left. If this opportunity is allowed to pass the population might wake up and a change of power can occur. They can’t take the chance.

Thanks. I was being a bit rhetorical and sarcastic. The point is, when someone tells me not to fall into a trap I check my gut. I don’t see the trap, unless one is prone to paranoia, of allowing for the possibility that communism is the ultimate outcome of this experiment. What evidence is there to dispute it other than the possible false belief that it couldn’t happen here. If you never thought about it until it was upon you, what would you do? Beyond that, why would you wait for someone else to tell you when to worry about something if your gut tells you different. I’d rather be relieved than surprised.

They know they can’t achieve the success by their own accord so they latch onto someone like Obama, who seeks power provided by these people, in the hope that he will provide for them.
