Pressure mounting to dump Steele? Update: Dems mock Steele, GOP with “I’m sorry, Rush” website
posted at 7:12 pm on March 3, 2009 by Allahpundit
Not really — or rather, not yet — but between stumbling into a fight with the hero of the base and making himself a late-night punchline for finding “hipness” in moldy slang, the ice beneath his feet is starting to crack. The RNC chair ideally needs to be good on TV and good at ingratiating himself with grassroots conservatives and their pocketbooks, and so far he’s been terrible at both. And don’t think people haven’t noticed:
Several Republican advisers to Congress and the previous Bush administration told Whispers that they are worried that the war of words is fracturing the party when it should be healing the division between conservatives and moderates in the wake of the 2008 election.
“What is amazing is that Steele was elected because of his communications skills, and it is those skills that are damaging the Republican Party. Before people begin to completely judge him as worthless, Steele needs to focus and knuckle down on building a strong foundation at RNC so we can begin rebuilding our majority,” says a top GOP strategist who has worked for House and Senate Republican leaders. “If his implosion continues, RNC members are likely to call a special session to dump him for an effective chairman. There is not much patience for failure.”…
“At this point, it is as if he has a fundamental misunderstanding of the job description. An RNC chairman who attacks Republicans and insults conservative icons is about as counterproductive as any Democrat could hope for,” says the adviser.
The party’s not going to scramble to oust its first black chairman, but if Steele goes on embarrassing himself he’ll become very easy to ignore, which will destroy his “change” mandate. When he called Rush out on D.L. Hughley’s show and labeled himself the de facto head of the GOP, I assumed it was his way of asserting himself; it was a foolish thing to do given the risk it posed to fundraising, but if he’d stood by his criticism it would have been a show of authority at least insofar as it proved he had the balls to take on Rush and not back down. Instead, he groveled right away. Like I said yesterday, lose/lose. Pull it together, chief.
Update: He knelt before Zod, and now the Democrats are laughing at him.

Won’t happen. But worse will as a result.

And now you’re pandering to the democrats like the spineless loser that you are, Allah.
Since when does the Party of Lincoln and Reagan give a damn what the party of Carter and FDR think?

Steele couldn’t even coherently defend his position with Laura Ingraham doing her best to be apologist for him. Steele is toast.

It’s because he hasn’t been a champion of change with a clear conservative message for the party going forward. Sure, he fired a bunch of people on the RNC staff, but what else has he done? He has attacked the conservative side of the party while propping up the liberals like McCain and Specter which is a deal breaker for many of us.

I also left out the high likelihood of extemporaneous oratory from an Internet Warrior.

A snarky “I’m religious, but against religion because if you don’t have morals as loose as mine, you’re a fundamentalist!”
leetpriest on March 4, 2009 at 10:00 AM
Some folks sure worry about polls… I wonder what the breakdown of Conservative to Liberals they have… People WILL change and turn on Obama… His policies will ONLY help Union Bosses, not workers… Welfare Queens, not those paying for them… And far left radicals that want the destruction of America at any and all costs…
The REAL America will return to wanting freedoms over Government, they will return to The Constitution over Socialism… Have faith in Americans, most were duped, fooled, but the wrath of the masses will be unleased upon the head of The Messiah and his cult very, very soon…
Mark Garnett on March 4, 2009 at 10:03 AM
I don’t know any Internet Warriors that hop out from under a bridge to shake their fist at people for the hell of it. Seems like a troll to me.
In response to your initial question, I’m afraid I’ll need more information. Are you referring to an African Swallow or a European Swallow?

Oh please.
Steele should choose his words more carefully and Rush shouldn’t grandstand against everyone in the party that doesn’t take their marching orders from him.
Congrats. You’ve just fallen into Obama’s trap to paint Rush as the leader of the GOP.
I’ve seen the 3 top faces of the Republican party smeared on our own sites in the past 2 weeks. Palin, Jindal, now Steele.
What…you guys wanna unfreeze Fred Thompson for a run in 2012?

Rush says this all the time and it is one of the very few points of disagreement I have with him, specially after the last elections. I think people could not have been fooled that badly without being dumbed-down and American-Ideolized for decades. It will take or a lot of time or serious hardship to get them back
neuquenguy on March 4, 2009 at 10:13 AM
Look, let’s face facts… The Republican Party put forth a crappy candidate. We lost to a smooth talker, a liar, a panderer, style over substance, change and hope and a desire by some for this welfare cradle to grave, womb to tomb all powerful big government. It’s simple…
Many, many stayed home… They WILL NOT again… The mask of the Messiah is now being torn asunder and his face is seen… He is a liar, he’s starting to be called one… His radical agfenda is being shown in the light of day, rather then just mentioned in back rooms and talk radio… The Conservatives are fighting back, slowly, but surely…
Liberals can’t help themselves, they are over-reaching… Mid-Terms will tell the tale imho, if we gain ground, it will mark the end of the radical agenda… If not, we will see despair and I really believe, a revolution…
Mark Garnett on March 4, 2009 at 10:13 AM

Rush is strong on conservative principles, not so strong on diplomatic exchange. Ditto on Neil Bortz, Sean Hannity, Mike Gallagher and Laura Ingraham. Being provocative is their business (just like it is for Maddow, Olberman, Matthews and Franken). Steele needed to be supportive of conservative talkers, and instruct Hughley and CNN that provocative speech is the right of both sides. Steele’s another lightweight in this age of lightweights that is too self-absorbed to know he’s in over his head.
Mark30339 on March 4, 2009 at 10:18 AM
Tell me again why he took an interview with D.L.?!?! Oh, because D.L. got a gig on CNN? CNN, a news network that hired a comedian/actor and said comedian had the gall to call out Rush?

Why not just call yourself Pagan instead of attempting to cover your philosophical beliefs up with the word “spiritual”? Are all followers of the Thelema philosophy as embarrassed of it as you are?
leetpriest on March 4, 2009 at 10:23 AM
Exactly my point. Americans ARE going to have it that bad! Most Americas, even I dare say Democrats, do NOT want to pay for lazy, non-working, non-producing welfare queens. Most Americans do NOT want the radical gay rights agenda forced down our throats. Most Americans do NOT want massive social spending on ACORN and fraud and pork. Most Americans do NOT want higher taxes, carbon caps and SOARING utility bills (which are coming). Most Americans do NOT want to pay $5 a gallon for gas (coming again).
The list goes on and on… The Messiah IS going to push people towards Conservative roots, back to basics simply because he is TOO RADICAL, it costs people TOO MUCH and is KILLING JOBS, FAMILIES and AMERICA… People can only be pushed so far, and in just 6 weeks Obama has managed to push MOST of us into a worried state of alarm and a movement is starting, a push back has begun… Watch the Summer of 09… I think even the MSM will turn on Abamby by September.
And I have not even mentioned the total likelyhood of another 9/11 style attack headed to our shores again…
Then let’s talk about poll numbers folks…

Overal i give him an 8 out of 10 on Conservatism, but a 10 for 10 on his ability to mix it up and frustrate the hell out of us hard core Conservatives…
He’s not a bad guy, just not all the way back to Conservative roots yet… The more pain he see’s from The Messiah though, the more he get’s it together… ROFL!
He knows the center and moderation will not work against Obamby, just not ready to conceed he was wrong…
Madison is great for our side, just try to stay away from religion and you’ll get along with him…

Steele tried to bring change.
Cons are not ready for change so the dems made an entertainer the gop leader.
Steele will leave and the new leader will be the entertainer’s puppet.
The entertainer’s poll numbers are worse than w’s.
The gop will hit rock bottom like the whig party.
Then they will change.

In the ’04 pres. race, approx. 121 million votes were cast (62mil for Bush vs. 59 for Kerry)
In the ’08 race, approx. 140 million votes were cast (60 million for McCain vs. 69.5 mil for Obama)
Are you sure a lot of people stayed home?
JiangxiDad on March 4, 2009 at 10:45 AM
Sorry Mark.Math error. In the ’08 race, the total was roughly 130 million, not 140.
JiangxiDad on March 4, 2009 at 10:46 AM
I hope and pray both of you guys are right, but honestly it’s not what I’m hearing from callers when I listen to local talk radio or the national programs like Limbaugh and Hannity. These people talk about everything that we consider to be things worth working for (health care, education, work/career, homes, cars) as things they are entitled to. Even “cars” to get to work a local caller here in Fayetteville NC said.
If enough people get the same entitlement mentality long enough to really destroy productivity nationally, I would really fear for the country.
hawkdriver on March 4, 2009 at 10:48 AM
Religion is fine, as long as it doesn’t involve insulting mine, or pretending to know my belief when you don’t. Extreme, I know.
When did I claim that it would? There’s a difference between claiming ODS is not the way, and claiming moderation and pandering to the center is the way. If the latter was true, why would I have hated McCain as a candidate and criticized him along with most others during the election?
MadisonConservative on March 4, 2009 at 10:53 AM
Let’s hope you’re right. And let’s hope that even today’s blue-dog revolt on gun rights is a sign of Obama pushing too far. Still, I wonder, even if things get really bad here economically, not to mention if we’re hit again, whether we will find ourselves fighting the economy, the terrorists, and the radical Executive and radical Congress. Your prescription for relief requires the Congress as the people’s reps. to fight the President.
JiangxiDad on March 4, 2009 at 10:53 AM
Correct you little radical troll… We will change to the Conservative Republican Party and sweep anti-American scum like The Messiah out of office, locally, in states and nationaly… As your side goes more left, we gain seats in 2010… So please just keep helping the welfare state, keep talikng down to the hard worers, the sucessful, the business owners… And when unemployment hits 14 – 15 -16%, Americans will no longer blame Wall Street and Bush, they will blame anti-American policies and the radical far left Messiah.
Mark Garnett on March 4, 2009 at 10:56 AM

MadisonConservative on March 4, 2009 at 10:56 AM
…. and he’s very literal too!
Mark Garnett on March 4, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Wait, waith… so you’re saying Barack Obama’s faithful attendance at Jeremiah Wright’s church was some kind of cynical scam, to fool the highly religious black community? And when he swore his oath of office on the Bible, he didn’t really mean it – it wasn’t any kind of sacred oath, just a guy blowing smoke while he puts his hand on a stupid old book? Are you calling Barack Obama a filthy, stinking liar?
I think you’re right about the importance of “putting a stake in the heart of that vampire demographic.” Religious people really shouldn’t be allowed to vote, or hold public office, right? Especially the white ones. Since blacks and Hispanics tend to be more religious on average than whites, we’ll need to carve out a race-based exception for the law that keeps those knuckle-dragging Jesus freaks from the polls. How much black or Latino blood do you think they’ll need before they’re allowed to vote? Would an evangelical Christian with a white mother and Guatemalan father be able to vote, or should we maybe only count that as half a vote? Would Cubans be granted the minority exception for allowing religious people to vote? After all, they tend to vote Republican, and they were stupid enough to flee an island paradise that has already achieved what Barack Obama is trying to do for America. And what about a religious aspirant to public office who comes from a religious minority other than black or Hispanic, like, say, Eastern Indian?
I hope you can post some more and refine this brilliant proposal of yours. I need to see some more details before I get fully on board. I think your plan is urgently needed, because white Christians have been sucking the Treasury dry for years, and of course they’re the primary beneficiaries of all that marvelous stimulus money. As a group, white Christians pay virtually nothing in taxes, and produce negligible economic activity. The sooner we can get their ignorant hands out of the till, the sooner we can move ahead with our President’s vital agenda to use titanic deficits and rising energy costs to get this economy moving again!

Remember, kids, liberals are statists. To them, there is no difference between “agreement” and “obedience.” Therefore, to listen to Rush Limbaugh and agree with him is to accept him as your lord and master, and his failure to translate your devotion into political power is an incomprehensible lack of ambition that disqualifies him from having any legitimate place in the national political discussion. Only duly designated vassals of a powerful member of the nobility, such as Barack Obama’s menagerie of Hollywood pets, have any right to hold forth on politics.
Also, remember the only legitimate measure of one’s dedication to a political issue is how many billions of tax dollars one has thrown at it. How many government spending programs have Rush Limbaugh’s name on them? None! Therefore, he doesn’t really “care” about anything – he’s just an entertainer. Keep in mind that the countless millions he pays in taxes, or the huge amount of economic activity his successful radio program generates, do not count. Only spending tax money gets you a seat at the table in our national political conversation. The capitalist mules who provide the funds are expected to shut up and quietly pump their money into the Treasury.
Besides, Rush Limbaugh has been divorced, just like Albert Einstein, and he’s had a substance abuse problem, just like Winston Churchill, so he’s obviously just an idiot chickenhawk we right-wingers shouldn’t listen to. We should take our cues from someone sensible, like David Gergen.

Part of the problem.
Need another truth commission for this disaster and let the heads roll.

You sure about that? Are you sure it wasn’t the housing policies of the Carter Administration to force banks to lend to irresponsible borrowers? Are you sure it wasn’t Arthur Davis, Maxine Waters, Chris Dodd, and Barney Frank that overlooked OFHEO’s warnings of Fanny and Freddy corruption and bad lending practices as forced by a Democrat administration?
You sure about that? Learn history, moron.
