Steele to Rush: I’m sorry; Update: Beck, Coulter knock Steele; Update: DNC chair hits Steele

Rahm Emanuel yesterday:
Mr. Limbaugh has “called for President Obama to fail. That’s his view,” Mr. Emanuel said. “And whenever a Republican criticizes him, they have to run back and apologize to him and say they were misunderstood.”
Michael Steele today:
“My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”…
“I went back at that tape and I realized words that I said weren’t what I was thinking,” Steele said…
“He brings a very important message to the American people to wake up and pay attention to what the administration is doing,” Steele said. “Number two, there are those out there who want to look at what he’s saying as incendiary and divisive and ugly. That’s what I was trying to say. It didn’t come out that way. … He does what he does best, which is provoke: He provokes thought, he provokes the left. And they’re clearly the ones who are most excited about him.”
Asked if he planned to apologize, Steele said: “I wasn’t trying to offend anybody. So, yeah, if he’s offended, I’d say: Look, I’m not in the business of hurting people’s feelings here. … My job is to try to bring us all together.”
Rush’s fans will hold Steele in contempt for criticizing him in the first place and Rush’s critics will hold him in contempt for apologizing now. Well played, sir. Exit question: Whose contrition was more groveling, Steele’s or Phil Gingrey’s?
Update: Coulter repeats the boss’s point from earlier today about how it’s perfectly okay to criticize Rush. Since when? Did CPAC pass a resolution?
Update: Rod Dreher skewers Steele: “Please Rush, don’t hurt me!”
Update: Tim Kaine seizes the moment:
“I was briefly encouraged by the courageous comments made my counterpart in the Republican Party over the weekend challenging Rush Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party and referring to his show as ‘incendiary’ and ‘ugly.’ However, Chairman Steele’s reversal this evening and his apology to Limbaugh proves the unfortunate point that Limbaugh is the leading force behind the Republican Party, its politics and its obstruction of President Obama’s agenda in Washington.”

Your end didn’t sound like debating; it sounded more like directives.

The stock market doesn’t wait for results. Decisions are made based on expectations, and the longer Obama has been in charge, the worse everyone expects the economy to get.
Some economic indicators take time to show up, and it’s fair to say of those that Obama hasn’t really had a chance yet. But the stock market? Obama OWNS it, through and through. There’s no place for you to hide or spin. Obama has been a disaster for the stock market, and all you can do is be honest and admit it, or lie and be a laughingstock.
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on March 3, 2009 at 1:13 AM
Guess I’ll be purged for saying this, but I’d rather die than be your “comrade.”
Jenfidel on March 3, 2009 at 1:13 AM
I agree, but assuming s/he doesn’t hijack every thread I think it might be better for us to have some exposure to the modern leftists though patterns. The arguments are so transparently Marxist, and thus frightening, that I would rather confront it head on. And most of the others are just mindless trolls that make groundless attacks which we can only respond to with the same.
But mine is only one opinion.
FloatingRock on March 3, 2009 at 1:14 AM
You’re probably right, F.R., but it’s absolutely chilling to confront it first hand.
Jenfidel on March 3, 2009 at 1:16 AM
Millions of them are, yes, that dumb, thanks to your wonderful school system, much of it union powered. In this regard you don’t have something in common with communism – the only thing there, the absolute only thing good, was their excellent school system. Now, under socialism, it has gone to hell too.

How long did it take HotAir to shred all of his arguments reduce him to pure-troll status? :)

If I own my work, than the government has no right to it. Otherwise, I don’t own it.
I believe I own my own work, you own yours, and no authority has the right to exploit, take, rob, or otherwise force you to give up title to your own blood, sweat, and tears.
THAT is progressive thought. Spare me the self-ordained, self-righteous “progressive” moniker.
It is made possible by respecting the rights of individuals to pursue their needs, wants and dreams, independent of authoritarian force.
Wrong. I benefit from helping others that needs my help in exchange for me needing their help. Independent people choosing to freely exchange labor and possessions of their own free will. The benefits of this to society are infinite.
Or, if I choose, I help people for no exchange at all of my own free will. That’s called charity.
It has been through the American standard of free individuals whose societal foundation are premised upon the principles in the first two paragraphs of the DOI and live under a constitutional, democratic republic that has built a place where MORE people have MORE access to education, and healthcare, and enjoy the highest standard of living for the longest period of time ever in the history of the world.
You are not arguing to do away with the rich? No, you’re arguing that the rich have piles of cash sitting around doing nothing. The truth is money is always moving around.
The truth is, the rich typically manage a “cash flow”. If it’s in the bank, it’s being lent. If it’s in capital improvements its generating wealth for employees, accountants, lawyers, neighborhoods, officers, janitors, car salesmen, universities, landscapers, architects, truck drivers, housewives, restaurants, bookstores, pilots, dog trainers…and the list goes on and on.
What’s more, is that the use of capital in a system like this is extremely efficient, and that you will never get more productivity out of a dollar than when it is freely competed for. THAT creates wealth. THAT is progressive thought.
The government destroys wealth creation by their cumbersome, wasteful, and no-one-is-bigger-than-us attitude, which takes a dollar and turns it into 43 cents of productivity. This is why socialist/communist societies are depressed, hopeless, and poor.
Taxation of personal income is a disgrace to a freedom loving society.
First of all, according to the Supreme Court, only profit can be deemed income, which makes sense.
Why?
Well, if I buy a wheel, let’s say, for 15 dollars, and then sell it to you for 15 dollars, there is no income, correct? There is no profit. The wheel has a value of 15 dollars and that’s all there is to it. No gain. Nothing taxable in a sane society, would you not agree?
Well, let’s say I trade my labor, and let’s say you agree to pay me 20 dollars for an hour of it (and let’s not forget, I have a finite amount of these hours per week that I can trade for its value, the rest I need for sleeping, grooming, nurturing children etc.) Well, if I trade equal value for equal value, where the hell is all the profit? There is no profit. I simply traded what was mine, outright, for an equal exchange.
But you say “tax” so nonchalantly and try to make the claim that it doesn’t represent the government’s ownership of my labor. Well, if they take 20-25 hours of my precious 40-50 hours per week away from my rightful title, then I have to fight for every friggin’ scrap of my labor, that I owned in the first place.
I have only so many hours. How many more do they need to take in order to create this inefficient, lie of a utopia you want to steal?

FloatingRock on March 3, 2009 at 1:28 AM
Then you are a fool. Why didn’t you just move to one of those more successful, more prosperous socialist utopias you so crave a long time ago instead of waiting for the change to take place here?
Wait, silly me, that would take some effort on your part, not to mention such a place doesn’t exist.
The only reason you self-loathing morons don’t kill yourselves more often is because there’s no government program for it. That’s actually a program I’d back fully. The less of you there are, the better this country would be.

Bingo! What the hell do we even need a Federal Post Office for anymore? We have UPS, FedEx, DHL, and if they aren’t good enough someone will compete with them and show a new way to do it better. The old “build a better mouse trap”.
Bingo again. Doc, you may have to add some more digits to that zero!
Higher prices for oil forces us greedy Americans to use less, and magically power our cars and trucks with unicorn farts that smell like cotton candy!
Let me burst your bubble gently: There will be no substitute for petroleum in our energy economy in the near future. Tell me how you are going to operate jet aircraft with alternative energy. Tell me how you are going to fuel all of the commercial trucking, rail, ships and private cars with an alternative that doesn’t exist. Who is going to bear the costs of developing the engines that can use something else. How are you going to grow enough corn and sugar to fuel the world’s transportation and feed people with the same agricultural products and keep food prices affordable? The answer is you are not. The corn based ethanol subsidy programs we already have drove up the price of corn so much this past summer there were tortilla riots in Mexico.
I heat my house with natural gas piped to me from the Gulf of Mexico. Why can’t we increase the overall supply of natural gas to other parts of the country, reducing the cost to me? There are huge NG deposits off the coasts of the Mid Atlantic and western Florida. My favorite politician right now is doing something about this that will actually make a difference. Heard of a $30 billion NG pipeline from the North Slope of Alaska through Canada to the Northwest and beyond? Yes, that simpleton idiot beauty queen loser whore Sarah Palin is doing that!/sarc. Thank you Sarah. What is Obama going to do about energy costs? He is going to make all of it more expensive, which as we learned this past summer will hurt everyone who does anything anywhere, all to pretend he’s saving the planet while his real agenda is anti-corporate.

Eh honestly it’s mostly that I don’t feel like knocking down the same talking points for the 10,000th time. There’s only so many times you can respond to “ZOMG Why isn’t there a white history month??” and “Thomas Sowell says Affirmative Action is dumb…and he’s black!” before you just stop caring. It’s not arrogance as much as it’s disillusionment.

And government assistance after getting out of prison is so wonderful too (sarc). Personally, after getting out, I got a probation officer–that was my public assistance. Everything else I got, I did for myself and for my family.
I wasn’t a fan government assistance before being incarcerated, and I sure as hell am not a fan now.

Oh, by the way Micheal Steele better get his feet under him again real quick. He called Rush and cleared the air. That was good. I wonder if he’s called Sarah yet? Want money flowing to the RNC, that’s the gal to talk to. The question is, does Steele know that?

Sorry, I realize you’ve left the thread but I wanted to comment on this, although somebody else probably already has—if you do some research you’ll realize that fascists were on the far left by modern political classifications. Wrong. It’s the role of family to ensure children are educated. This typically requires a certain amount of collaboration. It’s perfectly acceptable to do this at the local level with a government school. Other good — usually better — alternatives are church schools and “private” schools. There is no need for schools to be run by the government, but it does no harm, as long as parents are free to pull their children out of any school they don’t like and put them in another.
Does it even bother you that you don’t understand that the family is the basic unit of education? Even in a country with a long public school tradition, parents can put their children in a church school if they think it’s better.
Inane. Conservatives are not against reasonable levels of regulation, though they have little patience with red tape. Conservatives are clearly more interested in “clean” government than progressives, as we see daily in this administration.
We have private hospitals and charity hospitals in this country. Guess which ones most people go to?
Can’t let you get away with this. Charity does not have to be channeled through the government to count. St. Jude’s for example, has been saving lives of children stricken with cancer for generations. Private charity, lots of private contributions.
We reject socialism. We reject forcibly taking money from people to give to others. We encourage giving money to those who need it, but since it doesn’t go into government coffers, you want to smear it all as selfish.
Frankly, you’re like a necrophiliac. You keep making love to the corpse of communism/socialism, even though it was discredited years ago by the failure of, well, everyone who has ever tried it.

Here is a stock answer for Steele, prominent Republicans and Congressmen and Senators for the question whether ‘you want Obama to fail’:
My (our)job is to enhance the life, foster the liberty, and facilitate the pursuit of happiness for each American or at least make sure it doesn’t take a step backward. With that in mind we feel it is important to boost productivity, promote economic growth, call for lower taxes, minimize unemployment, and take steps to stabilize the stock market and the commodity markets.
Whenever President Obama, Congress, or the Democrats propose legislation to advance the above, I (we) will support the proposal and when it undermines or detract from these goals then I (we) will oppose it.
As to whether President Obama will meet with overall success or failure I (we) will leave up to history and historians to evaluate and decide.

Rush was the only voice I remember back in the ’90s calling the Clintons to task.
I don’t hear Liberals saying, “Well, we never elected Michael Moore for anything. He’s entitled to his opinions, but he doesn’t speak for us.”
Actually, Michael Moore’s just one example. The Communists have tons of celebrities, journalists and other non-elected people as their mouthpieces and that, of course, is fine with them.
The thing is, they’re all pretty much on the same sheet of music, while the Republican ‘leadership’ (LOL) is too busy playing the Populism game which they cannot win (unless they clone Ronald Reagan maybe) playing nice with the Communists, and trying to wear a Liberal smiley face on their lapels.
As Rush pointed out, the Communists will always hate us. They do not believe in compromise or tolerating other points of view. That is simply not their mindset.

“Many of his plans won’t come into affect for at least six months”
The word would be “effect,” and, if you’re talking stimulus package, most of the “plans” won’t come into effect for years. Read the law (which would put you $$ up on anyone who voted for it….) The big money targets are aimed two places:
August 2010 and August 2012
Guess that’s how Obama’s team figured you could best apolitically stimulate an economy.

Brian1972 on March 3, 2009 at 6:10 AM
The DNC response fits an old strategy lefties in my European country also use. They attempt to split the opposite side: the moderates from the more vibrant and therefore ‘dangerous’ right-winged people.
The Democrats as other lefties are most comfortable with a ‘polite’ opposition that essentially play ball. The Republicans are fools if they adopt this toothless role.
NORUK on March 3, 2009 at 6:21 AM
Good, then Rush should take over as GOP chairman. Then you’ll see a couple of things happen:
a. Milliions of new donations to the GOP will pour in (from people that have left the GOP over the past couple years, like myself)
b. We’ll start winning elections
ErinF on March 3, 2009 at 6:45 AM
I have not read all these comments, but I think the whole thing is ridiculous. If Rush wants to run the party, then he should give up his gig and do that. But he does not really want to do that, because that would require actually taking responsibility.
I think the Democrats are having fun playing the GOP leadership off against conservative pundits.
I do not have contempt for Steele but he should be more careful about he phrases things or all we will hear about how bad he is for not kissing up to Rush.
I am more concerned about what is actually happening with the economy, foreign affairs etc to really give a damn about this silly dustup.
When I get off this computer, I will hit the road and go to work. I will not be listening to Rush or anyone else because my work does not allow that. I will be spending my day making a living not listening to or thinking about this spat. It is childish.
As for Coulter, she might be funny sometimes but she alienates a lot more people than she entertainers.

-Steeles puts the hammer down on Rush, then pu$$ies out and apologizes

HondaV65 on March 3, 2009 at 7:50 AM
Did Rush do this much bellyaching in 2000 when Bush was portraying himself as a “compassionate conservative”? The reason he was doing that was to differentiate himself from Newt and Limbaugh conservatives and what they conjured up in the popular culture.
Speedwagon82 on March 3, 2009 at 7:57 AM
Sunshine conservatives? Call them what they are- Democrat wannabes. More interested in being liked by the enemy than fighting the good fight. They hate traditional conservative values as being to “judgemental” and harsh. They are the ones that foisted the political traitor McCain on the party.
Bottom line, this is the no time for Democrat wannabes in the GOP. If these rat bastard traitors are unwilling to fight the good fight then they need to go join the filthy liar’s party. There is no room for these people in the GOP if it is going to retool for 2010 and 2012. If Michael Steele doesn’t understand the true anger out there from the constituency then he needs to resign as RNC chair because he is representing the Quisling/McCain wing of the party and that is not where the future of the party lies.

This is the time to wage scorched earth political war against the filthy liar in the White House and his corrupt party. The filthy liar’s agenda must fail and it is not a Republican leader who is leading that charge. Sad.
In the meantime, idiots like you are running amok. The inmates are truly running the asylum these days. Scary.
highhopes on March 3, 2009 at 8:04 AM
Dave, how do you communicate with your philosophical leaders?
In my case, I listen to him on the radio, and email comments.
I’m not really sure what it means to be a Republican, but I’m fairly sure what it means to be a conservative. That’s largely due to Rush, and some others, including here.
I don’t have a strong affinity to the Republican party. I’m registered in it because that’s the only way I can vote in a primary election in my state. So when you poke fun at the Rep. party, it’s not really that bothersome to me.
Rush’s views are more important and interesting to me than anything I’ve ever heard the Rep. party say. I’m not really sure where this Republican bashing and scoffing will lead to. I want the country to turn right, and I vote for the Republican every time. But I don’t feel compelled to defend the party. It’s goofy. But they still get my vote. Your side went further left a long time ago than I was able/willing to go. As long as you guys remain over there, the Republican party can open just on election day and I’d still vote for their candidates until something better comes along. So scoff away. Maybe I’m missing the point, but I don’t see what the damage is.

nootch on March 3, 2009 at 8:41 AM
I’ll field this because, well, I don’t like the guy all that much.
Rod Dreher used to be a contributor at National Review. He tried to come up with a movement called Crunchy Conservatism, which basically said it’s OK to be a conservative and still lead a crunchy lifestyle. He even wrote a book on it and had a blog at NRO for a time. Jonah Goldberg had some mild but valid criticisms about the book, to which Rod kind of went off the deep end (my opinion). In reading the blog in particular it soon became clear that there was no overriding philosophy to “crunchy conservatism,” but rather it was basically whatever Dreher said it was. Goldberg pointed out that it’s hard to have a coherent movement without a coherent philosophy and that in the final analysis there was no such thing as a crunchy con. In the NRO archives you can still find Goldberg’s review of Dreher’s book, and it’s a good review.
Dreher kind of left the reservation after this. Again my opinion, but he’s always struck me as a bit of a milquetoast conservative. I just don’t think he has the intellectual firepower to be an effective pundit, especially when it comes to trying to define a movement.
JohnTant on March 3, 2009 at 8:53 AM
It REALLY is this simple:
1) To be the party of National security:
a) Victory in Iraq
b) Fully support NSA, Patriot act, tough interrogations, keeping Gitmo open
c) A Candidate that pledges to NOT demean our military while they are fighting for their Country. eg Harry Reid: “the surge has failed”, “the war is lost”
d) Candidate that promises to ensure that our veterans can live out their lives in dignity.
2) The party who pledges to oppose Appeasement:
a) The party will oppose any and all efforts to negotiate with dictators of the world in places like Iran, Syria, N.Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela without “pre-conditions.”
3) The party Pledges to support Tax CUTS, and fiscal responsibility:
a) The American people are NOT under taxed, Government Spends too much
b) The Candidate who Pledges to ELIMINATE and VOTE AGAINST ALL Earmarks
c) The Candidate pledges to BALANCE the budget
4) The party Pledges to be a supporter of “Energy Independence”
a) supports Immediate drilling in Anwar and the 48 states
b) Building new refineries
c) Begin building and using Nuclear Facilities
d) expand coal mining
e) realistic steward of the environment
While simultaneously working with private industry to develop the new energy technologies for the future, with the goal being that America becomes completely energy independent within the next 15 years.
5) The Candidate pledges to secure our borders completely within 12 months:
a) build all necessary fences
b) use all available technology to help and support agents at the border
c) train and hire agents as needed
6) Healthcare:
The party will look for Free-Market solutions to the problems facing the Healthcare industry, and will vigorously oppose any efforts to “nationalize healthcare”.
a) The Candidate will fight for Individual health savings accounts, that includes “catastrophic insurance” for every American, so people can control their own healthcare choices.
7) Education:
a) The Candidate pledges to “save” American children from the failing educational system
b) The Candidate will fight to break the unholy alliance of the Democratic party and teachers unions, which at best has institutionalized mediocrity, and has failed children across the country
c) fight for “CHOICE” in education and let parents decide
d) fight for vouchers for parents
8) Social Security and Medicare:
a) The Candidate will “save” social security and medicare from bankruptcy.
b) Options will include “private retirement” funds so people can “control” their own destiny.
9) Judges
a) The Candidate vows to support ONLY judges who recognize that their job is to interpret the Constitution, and NOT legislate from the bench.
10) American Dream:
The Candidate accepts as their duty and responsibility to educate, inform, and remind people that with the blessings of Freedom comes a Great responsibility. That Government’s primary goal is to preserve, protect and defend our God given gift of freedom.
That Governments do not have the ability to solve all of our problems, and to take away all of our fears and concerns. We need their pledge that we will be the candidate that promotes Individual liberty, Capitalism, a strong national defense and will support policies that encourage such…
It is our fundamental belief that limited Government, and Greater individual responsibility will insure the continued prosperity and success for future generations.
We the people who believe in the words of Ronald Reagan, that we are “the best last hope for man on this earth,” “a shining city on a hill,” and that our best days are before us if our Government will simply trust the American people.

The response to Kaine should have been simple but decisive…
Steele should just say…
“This is a perfects example of why Washington, and specifically the democrats have a difficult time managing the country. They want to get involved in a family discussion that does not apply to them…they want to take every opportunity to drive a wedge between people, the people are tired of the same old politics of attacking, when the issue has nothing to do with them.
My advice for the democrat leadership is to worry about the 9,000 earmarks that Obama promised never to have…and stop focusing on a talk show host.”

Good points, but check out the “questions” I would like our guys to use next time on the MSM and Pundits and the White House Press Turd:
1) Al Gore yelling: “This President betrayed his Country”.
Question: Did Al Gore want President to suceed or fail?
2) Hillary Clinton: “It’s NOT unpatriotic to question this President, it is our duty!”
Question: Did Hillary want Bush to suceed or fail?
3) Harry Reid: “The war is lost, the surge has failed”.
Question: Did Harry Reid want Americans Military and it’s CIC Bush to suceed or fail?
******* Come on folks at Hot Air, post more, let’s add to this list, let’s show the short memories of the far left radicals and the liars in the MSM… Add more and let’s get this out to conter the radicals and the Messiah…
4) ???
We will have pages of posts showing the huge number of ELECTED Officials of the radical left wanted Bush and America to “fail”… This could shut them up if it gets passed around enough and used… Liberals WANTED BUSH TO FAIL, so does Rauh want Obama to “fail”… So why the phoney outrage by the MSM and the trolls here at HA???
Me thinks we have the rat trolls corned with thier own words.

I know I’m a bit late chiming in, but I must comment on this.
I worked two minimum wage jobs and paid 100% of my expenses, including tuition and books, to graduate from college in four years. I had no health care insurance during this time. I also received one relatively small student loan, which I paid off on time, and the Pell grant. When I finally found my first “real” job nine months later, I was able to get insurance.
It can be done. Sure, I attended a state college as opposed to an Ivy League college, but no matter. I received my BBA and each job I’ve had since has progressively improved my lot in life.
There are very few people in this country who truly have no opportunity to improve their lot in life. I have no problem with assisting these people.
I do, however, have a big problem with the government stealing my hard earned wages to support whiny-babies who cry, “Life isn’t fair!”
Wake up. Life isn’t fair.
If it was, I’d have the money of Bill Gates. As it is, I have enough. I’ve worked for it and you ain’t getting it.

I think we all should probably relax a little over Steele’s comments. Yes, he handled it wrong. And I think he realized that, and is making a good-faith effort to mend that fence.
As long as he learns from this experience, it’ll be a good thing.

Actually Rush is on FM in my market. Nevertheless, you are missing an important point about Limbaugh vis-a-vis AM radio. The medium was dead until Limbaugh revitalized it with national talk radio. If anything, calling him an AM radio host is a compliment considering the way he saved the frequencies from oblivion.
highhopes on March 3, 2009 at 9:27 AM
Rush knows what his job is. Steele needs to sit down, read his job description and then go to work. He’s just using this current position as a stepping stone for another public office run.
Rush keeps us all from feeling like we live on a desert island.

This is a huge emabarassment for the Republican Party. I don’t see a long-term future for Michael Steele after this public humiliation. And it’s not lost on anyone that Steele is the first RNC Chair to be so viciously attacked by Rush Limbaugh.
Moderates need to take this Party before we become a permanent minority.
Atlanta Voter on March 3, 2009 at 10:14 AM
You liberals seem to never have a problem accepting survival of the fittest or competition to survive as it applies to the creation/evolution argument, yet when the same principled argument arises in favor a free-market economics, you seem to want to shoot it down every single time for some tax-and-spend socialist agenda. Are you daft, son?
Competition motivates ingenuity and progression. You call yourselves progressives, but you have proven that you want to stifle market progression in favor of socialist digression.
Does your hypocrisy ever stop?

As for the rest of the garbage that you posted up, if the GOP takes it’s cues from a radio host (wildly successful radio host at that), then the Party of the Ass takes its cues from a failed sports commentator.
That’s sad AND hilarious at the same time.

McCain was not a moderate; he ran as a tradtional Conservative. Anyone who followed the campaign and watched the McCain-Palin rallies knows this.
Atlanta Voter on March 3, 2009 at 10:22 AM
“Moderate” is equivalent to floating around in puddle of squishy goo where there is no right or wrong and “shades of gray” takes on an entirely new meaning . . . a place where one stands for everything and nothing. Moderation and so-called “crossing the aisle” moved the Republican Party to its current powerless state.

Fixed. McCain was the worst possible choice for the Republican party (yes, worse than even Rudy). He didn’t run as a conservative, he dodged questions that would have painted him as the Left-of-Center douche that he is.

As a Gingrey voter from NW Georgia I have to stand up for Phil Gingrey (again). If you read what he said he truly was not intending to attack Rush or his outspokenness. If Rush has any allies on the Hill Phil Gingrey is chief among them…look at Gingrey’s record. He is the MOST conservative voice on the Hill. He slipped up when speaking to Politico…but it should not be held against him. He parrots Rush’s talking points in Congress and is our truest advocate.
The Republican party must not allow the Democrats and the media to drive a wedge between us. Rush is one of our leaders…but he cannot lead us in Washington. Rush is our philosophical leader…our spiritual leader if you will. Now we just need a politician to stand up and take the reins and truly…physically lead us.

I would rather have lost with Rudy or Romney. Yes they might be too liberal or too flip floppy, but at least they can articulate what they say and don’t look half-dead.

Congress, the President, the Court, the States, the Bureaucracies, and the Parties should always understand;
that fire under their ass is the editorial pages of America.
Of course some, like this chauffeur for the DNC here, are deliberately framing the analysis of the process of free speech as dangerous for America.
But they don’t mean America. They mean the State.
They can’t differentiate between the two.
That is sad, but it ain’t very funny at all.

If ‘reaching across the aisle, spitting in the eyes of your own party, cursing out your own party, agreeing with your socialist, liberal opponent, bending over and not fighting for your own party and its constiuents, giving the same rights and privileges to people that have crapped on our nation’s laws as American citizens, and muzzling common sense means ‘Conservative’, you are right, McCain is a conservative.
Buy a damn dictionary.

When these operatives come to HA and actually believe that they are clever, I find myself chuckling a lot.
They actually think that conservative thought is susceptible to collectivist propaganda. You know, “I’m a conservative, but I think that Obama is on the right track blah, blah, blah.”
The behavior is similar to a toddler that covers their eyes with their hands and thinks that you can’t see them. They can be so cute when they do that. I don’t blame them for trying. I do blame squishy Republicans for jumping in fright when the child pulls their hands away and says “peek-a-boo”!

If this is so, then what is o? He is certainly not moderate. Also, why did o attract the indie/moderate vote over McCain who, like it or not, was the true moderate in the game. No–so called moderates fell for the hype like so many others. Had they been a little more impassioned in their out look, maybe they would have seen the situation more clearly.
jeanie on March 3, 2009 at 12:08 PM
jeanie…..O is not the problem.
It isn’t that the electorate has studied Obama’s policies and endorsed them….it is that moderates and independents are running from hardcore conservative avatars like Palin, Coulter and Rush like….well… like scalded cats.
strangelet on March 3, 2009 at 12:16 PM
Why then are they not running from o’s far, far left strategies like scalded cats? After all, they say they are ‘moderate’. I was under the impression that ‘moderates’were against extremism of any kind in politics. Frankly, you do not sound moderate at all. you sound like a Democrat.

So does o when he offends his supporters. A little difference though, he not only has to run and apologize , he has to give them money and perks.
jeanie on March 3, 2009 at 12:25 PM
This is GOP inside baseball. What’s important is how moderates and independents viewed McCain. And he did move very much to the right during the election. He presented the orthodox Conservative view on all of the major issues.
