The NRSC spent $1.2 million on behalf of Chafee, the Republican National Committee unleashed the 72-hour get-out-the-vote drive usually reserved for general elections, and even Laura Bush campaigned for the same senator who refused to vote for her husband only two years prior.

With this help, Chafee managed to win the primary, but lost the general election by more than 7 percent of the vote. Soon thereafter, he left the Republican Party and endorsed Barack Obama for President.

A few states to the south, then-Virginia Senator George Allen, a solid, respected conservative (and one with presidential aspirations at the time), lost re-election by a razor-thin margin. Had Allen taken 0.2 percent of his opponent Jim Webb’s vote, he would have been a reliably conservative leader in the Senate for at least another six years. Might the $1.2 million that the RNSC wasted on non-Republican Chafee have helped George Allen in that election cycle?

That’s what I’m talking about. ((Are we supposed to get out the vote for Specter like when Bush begged us the last time?)) We get here time and again. Who REALLY controls the RNC? This is PRECISELY why they won’t see my dollars for a long, long, long, long, long time. There’s way too much cleaning up to do around there.

Actually, yes we regulars at HotAir do have the power to express our dislike of Allahpundt’s snarky RINOism. I intend to bring this up with Michelle in person next time she comes for a book-signing or event in my area (I have met her 3 times before). And no, I am not alone in feeling this way.

Allah is unecessarily antagonistic towards a majority of his readers. And as the declining webratings suggests, it is not some ingenious way to generate traffic, rather the opposite.

Your story of the Marxist and Capitalist viewing the mansion was spot on and your analogy using Bill Gates supported the assertion perfectly.

I see Athensboy hasn’t responded to that thrashing either.

Never will that happen. The Republicans might finish off themselves but there will always be a strong conservative heartbeat in America–a heartbeat that can become the drumbeat of revolution when its survival is threatened.

I too feel a sense of responsibility since I was not as politically aware at the time as I am now.

Just as devout Saudi Muslims are quick to question the Islamic credentials of Bengali and Malay and American Muslims who mingle freely with nonbelievers, Limbaugh is enraged by the likes of David Brooks and David Frum and Jim Manzi and Ramesh Ponnuru, conservatives who consort with the liberal enemy.

I find this comparison offensive.

Not that it matters since I will not riot or decapitate anyone in response.

I’m a libertarian-leaning guy who voted Republican in the last election, and I suspect by the lights of some of the commenters here I’d fall in the dreaded “moderate” camp, especially since I’m not a social conservative at all. But let me put a stake in the ground for those of us here who fit that general description: I have motivations for my political philosophy other than fear of what liberals think of me.

Frum, on the other hand, is a stomach-turning coward who would rather use the Republican guy or gal sitting next to him as an ideological human shield than call out a sniping liberal. And for all his comments about conservatism having to return to its basis in ideas, I can’t think of a good policy idea he’s ever had. Brooks and Parker are exactly the same way. Conservatism is not going to be intellectually revived or politically rebranded as low-calorie liberalism.

“What do we want?”
“A 24.7 percent increase in the federal budget rather than a 27.9 percent increase!”
“When do we want it?”
“Over eight years instead of seven.”
