Video: 14-year-old conservative prodigy predicts easy win in 2012
posted at 4:30 pm on March 1, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m, er, highly skeptical, but I like his spirit. A safer bet is that he’ll have his own talk show by then. Fun fact: He’ll be 31 in 2026, just old enough to run for the Senate seat that’ll be up in his home state of Georgia. Hey, politics is like basketball: Gotta scout ‘em while they’re young.
Exit question: “Principle, not policy”?

Blowback

We have a new contributor for NRO. Maybe he will be on FOX opposite Olberman. Maybe he could debate Olberman.
And he defends Rush!!
“Obama will be another Carter!”
Wahooooooooo!

The MSM is going to destroy this kid. Every typical teenage mistake he makes will be front page news. Like Rush said yesterday, liberals love to destroy people’s lives.

Dr. Manhattan on March 1, 2009 at 4:41 PM
Wrong. Obama will be Carter Xs 2. Because I don’t see anyone in the GOP having a chance at all to defeat the Obama-Alinsky machine in 2012. Who on the Right is going to stand a chance against the messiah reincarnated as a (half-)Black version of Lincoln, Reagan and FDR all rolled into one. Sure he will have an economy and a nation in as much turmoil and despair and malaise as Carter did in 1980, but I don’t recall anyone recovering from BDS over the last 8 years, so I don’t expect any one of B.O.’s cult followers to recover from their cult worship of him over the next 4 years either.
I like the kid’s spirit, but after watching people’s BDS over the last 8 years and Obama-worship over the past 2+ fly in the face of common sense and reality — not to mention giving the party of hate and vitriol and military-smearing bigger majorities in Congress — I have no faith in the American people to come to their senses in a mere 4 years.
The country is no longer center-right, it’s more like center-retarded or center-ignorant.

I have to agree. He’s just too young to perform this type of function. Shouldn’t he be out there playing soccer or baseball?
I have no doubt he’ll be successful in his future, but I have to wonder what he’s sacrificed in terms of being a kid?
Richard Romano on March 1, 2009 at 4:45 PM
He’s better suited to run the RNC than the current chairman!
jencab on March 1, 2009 at 4:46 PM
Yep, we saw it with Bush. We saw it with Palin and her entire family. And anyone who checked out the YouTube comments at the kid’s speech the other day, the Left was all over that smearing and insulting and destroying him. SOP for the Left, mass media and the Democrats.
And yet, the American people reward them for it with complete power in our Federal government. So why would the Left-mass media-Democrats change strategy when it works, and then the GOP just turns around and attacks Rush and Coulter, instead of the real hateful, vitriolic hatemongers of the Left-mass media-Democrat Party.

No one concerned that voices of the American conservative movement are Anne Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and a child? Anyone?
You lot are doomed to wander the wilderness until you find some damn substance. His opinion is worthless for 3 reasons:
1) Doesn’t Vote
2) Doesn’t Work
3) Doesn’t Shave
You’ll find that this holds true no matter the age of the person in question with regards to politics.
Stop with the sideshow freaks because the road back is going to be a long one.

Krydor is right this kid is a sideshow. Don’t we have enough of that on the right already?
Dr. Manhattan on March 1, 2009 at 4:59 PM
This is going to sound too abstract to the spectacle-driven crowd, of course, but policy being principle-in-action, to act without solidly established, mutually agreed-upon principles is rather absurd. Even if the encouraging Mr. Krohn is wrong about which principles to act on, or his list needs to be added to, the mere fact that he’s talking about them — going back to basics, remembering our origins as if for the first time and with a certain appreciation for their meaning — takes this discourse to the level it needs to be on.

Well, dismissing that I’m a dude thus making a Hamlet reference worthless it does stand to reason that 2010 should be of concern.
For all the talk about how policy is important and on the heels of a big old American Conservative Meetin’, the best that came out of it were stemwinders from a fringe author (and she is fringe, don’t flatter yourselves) a radio host that appeals to a narrow group (and he does, once again, don’t flatter yourselves) and a child (who should be dismissed out of hand).
Yeah, so the concern is because US conservatism is an echo chamber.

You didn’t take him on on any of the actual points made. I think we’d all have to admit that if the public discourse is always going to be held at this level — stopping at the level of appearances and going from there — the Demos will win every time. But surely even the Demos can see that the discourse should deal with things a good bit more substantial. Or is our next masturbatory feel-good a protracted MSM discussion on the vice of age-ism?

Not sayin’ this kid is the second coming of JSM, but there are people in this world who accomplish more by the time they’re 14 than you may have accomplished in your longer lifespan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stuart_Mill
Mill was a notably precocious child; at the age of three he was taught Greek. By the age of eight he had read Aesop’s Fables, Xenophon’s Anabasis, and the whole of Herodotus, and was acquainted with Lucian, Diogenes Laërtius, Isocrates and six dialogues of Plato. He had also read a great deal of history in English and had been taught arithmetic.
At the age of eight he began learning Latin, Euclid, and algebra, and was appointed schoolmaster to the younger children of the family. His main reading was still history, but he went through all the Latin and Greek authors commonly read in the schools and universities at the time, such as Horace, Virgil, Ovid, Tacitus, Homer, Dionysus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes and Thucydides. By the age of ten he could read Plato and Demosthenes with ease. His father also thought that it was important for Mill to study and compose poetry. One of Mill’s earliest poetry compositions was a continuation of the Iliad. In his spare time, he also enjoyed reading about natural sciences and popular novels, such as Don Quixote and Robinson Crusoe.
His father’s History of India was published in 1818; immediately thereafter, about the age of twelve, Mill began a thorough study of the scholastic logic, at the same time reading Aristotle’s logical treatises in the original language. In the following year he was introduced to political economy and studied Adam Smith and David Ricardo with his father – ultimately completing their classical economic view of factors of production. Mill’s comptes rendus of his daily economy lessons helped his father in writing Elements of Political Economy, which became the leading textbook exposition of doctrinaire Ricardian economics. Ricardo, who was a close friend of his father, used to invite the young Mill to his house for a walk in order to talk about political economy.
At the age of fourteen, Mill stayed for one year in France, with the family of Sir Samuel Bentham, brother of Jeremy Bentham. The mountain scenery he saw in France made the deepest impression on him, which led to a lifelong taste for mountain landscapes. The lively and friendly way of life of the French also left a deep impression on him. In Montpellier, he attended the winter courses on chemistry, zoology, logic of the Faculté des Sciences, as well as taking a course of the higher mathematics with a private professor. While coming and going from France, he stayed in Paris for a few days in the house of the renowned economist Jean-Baptiste Say, who was a friend of Mill’s father. There he met many leaders of the Liberal party, as well as other notable Parisiens, including Henri Saint-Simon.
A contemporary record of Mill’s studies from eight to thirteen is published in Bain’s sketch of his life. It suggests that his autobiography rather understates the amount of work done.

Why would I? I wouldn’t ask for writing pointers from the winner of the national spelling bee, either. Rote recitations are not insightful. ‘Conservatism is whatever my parents told me it is because I have no worthwhile life experience to formulate an opinion with regards to politics.’
I don’t think any of you are quite aware at the length of the road back. NONE of the people I mentioned are running for office (or would get elected if they did) yet they get prominence in the debate. It’s bad strategy, it’s horrible optics and (unless some saner heads prevail) 3 terms of Democratic presidents.
Krydor on March 1, 2009 at 5:16 PM
“I know. It’s almost like nobody’s willing to talk serious politics and conservative philosophy with 14 year olds anymore. Dark times, I’m telling you.”
Well, we can be certain that it says less about the fourteen-year-old than it does about his easily distracted would-be interlocutors. Dark times indeed, when folks no longer know substance from accident. Perchance there is some way that we can actually hold his age against him? No?
But I think what you meant to say, was, “Nobody’s willing to talk serious politics and conservative philosophy anymore, so thank God there will always be something irrelevant to spend our time dismissing in those who do want to talk about it.”
Tobias on March 1, 2009 at 5:18 PM

“Without power, your principles have no impact. And surely policy must flow from principle — it is, in fact, principles in action?”
But the conservatives are never going to reclaim power without acting on principle, whatever the cost. We can work the appearances as much as we like, but Krohn has a point — THE point, truth be told — that working the appearances alone will never work, and even if it did we wouldn’t know what to do afterwards. In point of fact, that is the modern history of the conservative base. Obviously, there are going to be folks who want to produce the conservative worldview like you would a music video. But good lord, even if practical considerations are our first concern, isn’t it clear that our videos, made in this way, are always going to suck by comparison? Are we really going to try to out-cool the cool kids? There could be nothing more un-cool.

CCRWM on March 1, 2009 at 5:53 PM
Well I think this kid might be right in what he is saying about 2012. as long as the GOP can field a decent conservative candidate with the way Obama is going at the moment it should be a very competitive election cycle. A strong indicator will be how the GOP performs in 2010 and whether or not the economy begins to improve before then.
As someone said before, Obama at the moment is looking more and more like a Kamikaze President. Instead of seeking two terms he may decide to use the opportunity at hand (Financial Crisis, Democrat control of house and Senate, Media compliance and relatively high popularity) to jam through as much of his ideological agenda and social engineering policies as he can before 2010 (and the possibility of a resurgence of the GOP in congress and Senate).

This boy is nothing like the youth singing for Dear Leader. He is arguing principles, not forming an unhealthy attachment to a personality.
chunderroad on March 1, 2009 at 6:08 PM
It won’t even be close, Obama will have all sectors of his powerbase in his control. Unions, Acorn, MSM, no talk radio, etc. There is no hope of a resurgence by the GOP after this. The GOP allowed itself to be corrupted by DC, they did not listen and they left themselves gave a huge opening for the marxist left. There is no future for the GOP, there is either a third party or secession movements or all out revolution.
Heck, just wait till Obama begins to form his own homeland security force, what will the GOP do then?
The problem with the GOP is that they are not willing to fight. The first response to Rahm Emmanuel’s declaration of Rush being the GOP’s leader is that the Dem’s leader is now Saul Alinsky. But they are fearful to point this out, they are afraid that they will be attacked by the MSM, but if you don’t speak and defend the truth you will never win.
If the GOP started using language such as socialism, Saul Alinsky, etc, the MSM would be forced to cover it, but again, they fear and will not call a socialist a socialist, a marxist a marxist, and on and on.
We need to be having this national discussion, whether we are to be a socialist nation or a nation founded on the individual. Instead the GOP stands around and lets the Dems/MSM determine what is discussed.
No coordination, all fear, no leadership, no principles, no values, nothing. The GOP must lead or go, because if they don’t lead they will eventually be destroyed by the Democrats.
