CNN: Limbaugh’s angry, sinister speech “crossed a line”

posted at 12:32 pm on March 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

I haven’t had time to watch the speech but doubtless those who have will have plenty to say in response in the comments. I did see that Rush revisited his point about wanting The One to fail, which gives the media ample excuse to run with it, sans context, for another week. Stephanopoulos used it to make Cantor squirm on “This Week” this morning and Rahm Emanuel took full advantage by painting the GOP as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rush Inc. All part of the strategy to make the party’s approval rating among independents look like Limbaugh’s does.

Dr. James Hansen is seen urging Americans to “take a stand on global warming” during the March 2 protest at the Capitol Power Plant in Southeast Washington, D.C.

…But critics say Hansen’s latest call to action blurs the line between astronomer and activist and may violate the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from participating in partisan political activity.

“Oh my goodness,” one of Hansen’s former supervisors, Dr. John Theon, told FOXNews.com when informed of the video. “I’m not surprised … The fact that Jim Hansen has gone off the deep end here is sad because he’s a good fellow.”

Theon, a former senior NASA atmospheric scientist, rebuked Hansen last month in a letter to the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee, saying Hansen had violated NASA’s official position on climate forecasting without sufficient evidence and embarrassed the agency by airing his claims before Congress in 1988.

“Why he has not been fired I do not understand,” Theon said. “As a civil servant, you can’t participate in calling for a public demonstration. You may be able to participate as a private citizen, but when you go on the Internet and call for people to break the law, that’s a problem.”

For goodness sake! Please elected Republican officials and paid spokes people for the RNC, huddle up. Rush Limbaugh is a talk show host. Every time the MSM tries to make said people responsible for what Rush says, they should repeat that with a blank stare. Why in the world would Rep. Cantor or Mr. Steele have to explain Mr. Limbaugh or any other citizen of the U.S.? They should be shocked at the interviewer that can’t tell the difference between and entertainer and an elected official AND THEY SHOULDN’T EXPAND ON IT. Sometimes the folks in the Republican party are to stupid to breathe.

As for Mr. Huckabee being our next candidate, a poster on a thread last night (Limbaugh, I am sure) stated that Mr. Huckabee went on Geraldo’s show and threw the participants of CPAC under the bus. I have no way of knowing if this is an accurate portrayal. Maybe Allah could look into it for us.

That Cantor could be forced into a corner to throw Rush under the bus really angers me. We have so many politicians that are so afraid of the press, that we are all going under. What happened to people who could stand up to the press? The press has a pretty low approval rating in opinion polls. Why can’t conservatives turn the questions around on them and show their audiences that they are biased and lying? The best ones doing this are Rush and Ann Coulter. (In fact, I think Ann does it even better than Rush!) Seems to me that Ann should gather all the conservative politicians in a room and teach them not to throw fellow conservatives under the bus to be popular with the Drive By Media!

Rush Limbaugh’s upbeat, informative speech did indeed cross a line. It crossed the socialist liberals line, and told them what they could do with their failed ideology.

I’m eagerly awaiting the cable ratings of Rushes segment. I’m certain that CNN lost Big Time! BWAHAHahahahaha….

DannoJyd on March 1, 2009 at 5:28 PM

In defense of AP, what he wrote in the post is nothing that wouldn’t be expected of the media regardless of what Rush had said. His mere presence at CPAC would be enough to make CNN start running a message crawl at the bottom about Rush’s “I want him to fail” line. They’ll use any excuse to regurgitate that out-of-context phrase, which was AP’s point.

As for the speech itself, could have been shorter and more focused. You could tell Rush was having trouble getting out of his behind-the-mic mode, easily flying off on a tangent. And while he really is an entertainer, I would have preferred more streamlined substance that clearly highlighted the differences between conservatism and just about everything else these days. At least, that’s what I think would have been most effective as a real “first national address” for those who may have never heard him before except for what the media has chosen to play. All in all, though, as a conservative (his target audience, after all, for this speech) I really was motivated by the speech.

JoelD on March 1, 2009 at 5:34 PM

I don’t really give a damn what the liberal media thinks. I thought the speech was phenomenal. Rush tore the roof off the joint.

promachus on March 1, 2009 at 4:10 PM

Embarrassed? By Rush? Please.

I couldn’t be prouder of Rush Limbaugh if I had invented him myself. He says the things we all know are true about the liberal left – and that fact, alone, makes those on the liberal left uncomfortable. He loves this country. He’s proud of this country. He knows this is a great place to live, that there is no end to the opportunities here. A lot of the more lukewarm members of the GOP seem to have conveniently forgotten that.

Super-heroes need super-villains. And Rush is perfect as the super-villain for the Chicago crowd. Everyone has an opinion on him and he’s not running for anything. Plus Obama won’t need his support in the future, so he’s not burning any bridges. The only down-side Obama can see is that Rush is articulate and has his own microphone. As Mark Twain said, never argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel. That’s probably why they’ve put “localism” on a fast track. Once they can drive all the radio stations carrying Rush into bankruptcy they’ll have cut off Rush’s ability to effectively respond. In other words, they’ll have shut down his source of 21st century ink (elections).

Fred 2 on March 1, 2009 at 6:15 PM

If the Left, as well as the Obama Administration, were not so terrified that Rush’s message might just get through to enough Americans to stop the fleecing of most of America by a vocal, doctrinaire minority, then they’d ignore him…but Obama made the first move, fired the opening shot with his “stop listening to Rush” comment in the White House.

By highlighting Rush, who holds no office, is running for nothing, who is a private entrepreneur with a growing audience, they have succeeded in getting Americans who knew Rush only as a passing reference to sit down and listen.

Once they listen, actually listen, and not depend on press feeds from media matters and other outfits and Left blogs, most are more than willing to discuss among themselves the issues, to debate the issues, and come away from it all a lot wiser than they were when that pesky 53% of voters [not 53% of Americans as some pundits on the Left have even claimed] went out and voted on the basis of “Hope” and “Change.”

They fear Rush. They fear Conservatism.

Smell the fear.

Time to use it against them.

They fear Rush. They fear Conservatism.

coldwarrior on March 1, 2009 at 6:30 PM

It’s so simple. Rush speaks to the extant, but dormant desire for freedom. They fear that because they know they are numerically overpowered, and because they don’t yet control the military. There are still a few ways in which their plans can fail.

Eight years, if not more, of the Left being fed the “answers” from MoveOn to MediaMatters to any number of other sources, and the mSM dutifully repeating the same, over and over again, the Left understands full well the power of the media.

Every successful advertising campaign (on the benign side) to every successful propaganda campaign, (on the less benign side) depends on the constant drumbeat of a single message, or a simple message.

For 8 years, it was all about stupid draft dodging Chimpy, or Bush Lied, or Cheney and Haliburton controlled the world…and they had Code Pink and other groups out there being very vocal to the point of ridiculous hitting that message over and over and over again, so much so that otherwise nonpolitical Americans, or even those who were political but unsure of their direction, started to say among themselves, if this message is everywhere, then it must be true.

Not going to flirt with Godwin…but the way the message is managed is how the message is made to be 100% believable, whether the message is true, or the message is a patent lie, and in the past century we have seen this taken to the extreme for a lot of less than benign causes.

Rush is NOT the GOP. Rush is NOT the Conservative movement.

Rush is a private citizen exercising his First Amendment Rights…and does so as a motivational speaker and a radio talk show host.

We, as private citizens, need to exercise our First Amendment Rights as well…daily, constantly, one person at a time or a small group of neighbors, co-workers, fellow lodge members, church groups, whatever…and keep at it. Not as angry out-of-control reactionaries, but as solidly- based Americans who believe in the Bill of Rights, who believe, truly believe in the Constitution, and believe that the fundamentals of Conservatism is the only means to keep America great, and make America even greater.

America growing to even greater heights, all this without more government intervention, more taxes and more giveaways to those unwilling to contribute or follow the basic rules and laws most Americans still follow. Either we are independent or we all become slaves…all of us.

Do this, and their fear will grow exponentially…and they will overreach, and the house of cards will come down, sooner rather than later, and the exposed Emperor will stand naked in front of America as the Chicago hustler he is.

2010 begins now…2012 and beyond we will address as our successes grow.

More of this “Rush Limbaugh is going to destroy the party” BS. It’s getting a little old.

Quite the opposite is happening. By attempting to crush Limbaugh, Obama has made him larger-than-life. It has already backfired on him spectacularly.

The GOP needs to tell the retards at CNN to go screw themselves, that one does not have to agree with everything Rush says to know that Rush’s passion and sharp political analysis is priceless for the GOP and that if CNN is saying that Rush “crossed the line,” then Rush is right on point and effective.

Rush’s speech was FINE. In fact, I thought he used the words “heartbroken” and “saddened” far too much. I kept wanting him to be “mad” instead.

One funny thing, that funny lisped line he gave after menitoning the “castrati” was editted out by CSPAN! It aired on Fox but when I watched the speech later on CSPAN, it was the only part editted. I didn’t know CSPAN editted things, I thought they aired things uncensored for the viewers to decide for themselves. And what was so offensive about that anyway? It was the oddest thing I’ve ever seen on CSPAN.

The only anger is coming from CNN and Bill Schneider. First, Rush takes a swipe at CNN by only acknowledging FoxNews, and through them a national audience. I bet that really rankles the CNN’ers. Second, Rush was relentless in his attack of the sycophantic MSM. Imagine those dopes at CNN: Forced to carry Rush’s speech and then to have him lacerate the media. Hey, MSM’ers: Rush went easy on you; not once did he refer to your bankrupt business model and your near-extinct status.

As for “crossing a line,” please. This from the network that post-911 showed that “exclusive” video of dogs being gassed by AQ. The MSM crossed a line of sanity ages ago, and all it can do now is whine.

I watched the speach and Limbaugh’s speach was spot on, typical drive by media analysis by CNN of what was said, taking out of it what they wanted to say and ignoring the real words behind it. We had our Obama in 1997 and look at the mess the UK is in now, at least with this type of speach and your Tea Parties you won’t go the way of the Conservative Party in the UK which looks like a Socialist party as it was remade by those voices that Limbaugh mentioned, if you want an example of what he said look no further than the UK Tories who even said they hoped for an Obama victory, that is how sick they are… CNN idiots…, just as bad as the BBC.

TrueBrit on March 2, 2009 at 9:33 AM

Former Vice President Gore should look for the chill running up Chris Matthews’ leg. MSNBC is so desperate for ratings they may allow it. Heck, they may promote it.

The fights above are terrible. Are we being tossed? Where else would they have us? Someone gonna tell us where we will be welcome?

IlikedAUH2O on March 2, 2009 at 9:37 AM

This political hack Bill Schneider runs a liberal think tank on the side. He has always been a Democrat political hack while posing as a non-partisan political analyst! Plus this ahole admitted he didn’t watch the speech. He’s just a another lying liberal with an agenda!

CrusaderPatriot on March 2, 2009 at 9:38 AM

Also, AP had a point to apply to CNN and MSNBC — don’t watch them. Even ask them to be turned off in public areas.

Comments in dentist’s offices andcalls to airports can really make change you can believe in.

IlikedAUH2O on March 2, 2009 at 9:43 AM

The not watching the speech could be a way to keep his cred with real liberals. Like it was beneath him. You know what sinister is? Nobody giving President Bush credit for Iraq. And who wants that chacterization?

IlikedAUH2O on March 2, 2009 at 9:47 AM

Dow falls below 7,000 as worries about banks mount
Dow Jones industrials fall below 7,000 as worries about global financial system surge…

Wow, the Obama-Pelosi stimulus (porkulus) plan is sure working out well… While we are busy discussing Rush Limbaugh, our markets are not responding to Socialism very well.

Keemo on March 2, 2009 at 9:53 AM

How come nobody ever says “Obama, Bill Maher says some outrageous things. How can you stand with him?”

hawksruleva on March 2, 2009 at 9:59 AM

The Media is scared to death. Rush was called out on the Obama stuff and they tried to jump all over him like he was Joe the nobody plumber. Rush gets more listeners than CNN and MSNBC has viewers. They officially bit off more than they can chew. You are not going to tear Rush down by saying he is just an angry, fat, rich guy. You have to beat him on policy and LIB Media doesn’t have a leg or hand to stand on when it comes to policy. They always destroy people on petty things. Palin was her daughter and Trig. Joe the plumber is really Sam whoever. Bush had a DUI and did drugs. No one says a word about this dope out guy in office now.

Having Limbaugh be the face of the GOP is the gift that will keep on giving – to the Democrats, as more independent voters identify Republicans as being the party of ranting losers.

starfleet_dude on March 2, 2009 at 10:04 AM

coldwarrior: well said.

Cantor needs to sack up and say “what, you want me to agree with the President who’s enslaving our country to the Chinese who hold all of our debt? Should I support the President who encourages the poor to stay poor, the jobless to stay jobless? Should I root for the President who’s health care policies will kill the defenseless at either end of life? Where Obama provides reasonable policies, I’ll support them. But what I’ve seen coming from the White House so far is nothing like the America that I believe in.”

hawksruleva on March 2, 2009 at 10:09 AM

And, why would we give a flying f*ck what anyone at the Commie News Network thinks? Seems to me, when we do what the MSM wants (a la, McCain), we tend to lose elections.

ErinF on March 2, 2009 at 10:16 AM

… one more point,

Rush’s speech was 95% OPTIMISM. It’s no wonder commie, libtard, socialist, marxist, obama-blinded twits hated the speech.

ErinF on March 2, 2009 at 10:19 AM

ErinF on March 2, 2009 at 10:19 AM

Drink the kool-aid, see the optimism.

sethstorm on March 2, 2009 at 10:28 AM

As for the speech itself, could have been shorter and more focused. You could tell Rush was having trouble getting out of his behind-the-mic mode, easily flying off on a tangent. And while he really is an entertainer, I would have preferred more streamlined substance that clearly highlighted the differences between conservatism and just about everything else these days.

JoelD on March 1, 2009 at 5:34 PM

I disagree with you in this sense. Consider the audience. This wasn’t a college class, the general public, or even the traitors of the McCain wing of the GOP. This was CPAC which presumably already have a passion for Rush’s message. The enthusiasm was enough that there were multiple overflow rooms to handle the crush of people (McCain didn’t have that problem when he showed up last year and told CPAC that they had no choice to vote for him). He gave his audience what they wanted and a little lagniappe besides. That CNN is offended merely indicates that El Rushbo was right on target with his message.

highhopes on March 2, 2009 at 10:33 AM

sethstorm, I don’t drink kool-aid. That’s the dimrat drink of choice.

I did watch the full speech, and it was all about American optimism. I’m sorry if you can’t handle that.

starfleet_dude on March 2, 2009 at 10:04 AM

Limbaugh isn’t even a member of the GOP leadership. He is NOT the face of the Republican Party. Rather, he is the voice of traditional conservatism attempting to differentiate that concept from the Republicans who call themselves conservative but are as much for big government as the filthy liar and the rest of the DemoRAT party.

If the current crop of GOP “leaders” can’t keep the spotlight that is the problem of their big-government message, not Rush’s problem.

I thought the best part of his speech was about the cruelty of welfare.

Getting victims addicted to crack is bad for the addicts, but good for the dope dealers.

Getting victims addicted to welfare is also bad for the addicts, but good for the democrat welfare dope dealers.

Obama and his impetuous democrat neo-coms want to swallow the US and steal it’s energy and creativity, and install trickle up poverty. It can’t be good for his children, so what is this man made of?

Christian Conservative on March 1, 2009 at 4:45 PM

“…Cantor forced into a corner to throw Rush under a bus…”

Are you kidding? FORCED into a corner???

Nobody FORCED Eric Cantor to relinquish his spine and testicles. The non-con Republicans have neither. Cantor is a coward like other RINOs: Specter/Snowe/Collins/Cantor/McCain/ ad nauseum. Thats why the MSM hasn’t destroyed them.

The MSM lynched Sarah Palin, are in the process of lynching Bobby Jindal. They are lynching Sarah and Bobby ecause the MSM despise true conservatives because they know that millions of us will listen to and vote for true conservatives to represent us because true conservatives will help us save this country. Get it?

Ann is better than Rush at staying on point and going for the jugular. She’s great and so is Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, and for that matter Glenn Beck. Beck and the rest take no prisoners. They don’t suffer fools.

As a Christian you need to understand that George Soros may well be an incarnation of the devil. The Useful Idiots get their marching orders from Soros. He is behind the movement to destroy America. Soros will stop at nothing and is leading the UIs (getalife, sethstorm, and the other sad KOSKID trolls) to their – and our – demise.

Every act of denigration, character assassination, disinformation, lying, deceit, is a means to take power from millions of us and bestow it on a select group of empty greedy humanoids. If we dont stop them imagine what is in store for our children.

Rush has got to be loving this. He’s manipulating the liberal media like I’ve never seen before. They are propelling him to ever higher status and are making sure that his popularity reaches new heights. But I gotta say he didn’t waste an opportunity and really took advantage of the spotlight. That was an absolutely incredible speech.

max1 on March 2, 2009 at 10:47 AM

Max1, their anger is justified,
ours isnt.

Their passion is for the downtrodden and weak,
we care for the wealthy and greedy.

They bend rules for a greater cause,
we cant bend rules because we believe that rules benefit society.

They justify their deeds as a means to an end for the greater good,
we are concerned only with ourselves.

Their angry mobs are justified in burning, trashing, pillaging, raping, killing,
we must follow the roooowaaals.

They can commit adultery, theivery, etc. with few consequences,
we are destroyed for doing same.

Get the picture?

kooziegirl on March 2, 2009 at 11:17 AM

CNN knows a little secret that the rest of America doesn’t. When they say BOO!…all Republican congress people FLEE! They literally run for their offices where they dive under their desks! They then assume the fetal position where they suck on their thumbs and sob like school children who have just been pants by the school yard bully! They remain there until told it is safe by their staff members!

You will never understand what liberals say until you learn the basic rules to interpret their communication:
Whatever a liberal says is either:

a) the diametric opposite of what they mean
b) a projection of their own thoughts and motives
c) a talking point handed down by their leadership which likely themselves do not have a clue what it means.

It sure would be nice if one of those liberal posters used a bucket of Hot Air’s pixels to prove you wrong, neuquenguy. Maybe one of them could pick a substantive point from that Limbaugh stemwinder and explain what’s so horribly wrong about it. I’m sure it would be fairly easy for them to knock down one or two of his positions without resorting to witless ad hominem attacks, since Limbaugh is such a voter-repelling liability to the conservative cause. Many of us would enjoy reading a thoughtful, provocative deconstruction of such a hateful and angry tirade – what better way to put down a shrill demagogue than with politely worded, carefully reasoned arguments? If one of you liberal commenters would get started on such a post now, and type quickly, maybe you could get it online before the Dow drops below 6,000.

It’s telling when “supposed” conservatives claim that Rush carries the water for the GOP. Nothing could be further from the truth.

When people do this, either they are deliberately distorting the facts, or they do not understand how transparent it is where they get their “news” from.
