Video: Limbaugh brings down the house at CPAC; Update: Full video added

posted at 8:42 pm on February 28, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’ve been waiting an hour and a half for the complete video to appear somewhere, but Townhall’s feed isn’t working and there are only bits and pieces of the speech up at YouTube. The full transcript’s posted at Rush’s site; I’ll give you the first hour or so of video that’s available now and then update accordingly. Check back periodically.

Haven’t watched yet myself, but his point about certain other people wanting certain other presidents to fail is well taken. Meanwhile, here’s the result of the CPAC straw poll: Romney 20, Jindal 14, Paul 13, Palin 13. I’m shocked that Jindal beat Palin, especially after the atomic bomb he dropped on Tuesday night. And what happened to Huck? Sixth place with just seven percent of the vote after that stemwinder he delivered on Thursday? If anyone’s chances for the nomination smell dead after this, it’s his.

Update: Part seven added.

Update: Part eight added.

Update: Part nine added.

Update: The tenth and final part is hereby added.

Blowback

When I listento Rush speak on any tipic, I find it very difficult to understand why many of his criticws say his audience is primarily composed of knuckle draggers….my guess is that, a la Palin, Jindal….they are very scared of what he stands for and of his influence on people.

Red State State of Mind on February 28, 2009 at 8:47 PM

The CNN coverage was priceless. They read a twitter feed on it and picked out a few mentions of Hitler.

Been expecting this – can’t wait for all the gnats to come by and make small gnats of themselves.

Off topic – Paul Harvey died.

OmahaConservative on February 28, 2009 at 8:50 PM

His gave a great defense of conservatism and just filleted The One on national TV.

He should challenge the Messiah to a debate. It’d be embarrassing. Obama would lose so badly it wouldn’t even be close.

JP1986UM on February 28, 2009 at 8:50 PM

I am sure Gov. Palin being absent hurt her and Gov. Romney’s extensive knowledge could only help him at this point. Lots of time for things to happen.

Although it would be fun to watch, I wouldn’t want to see any POTUS debate an entertainer or media pundit. Very unseemly.

Cindy Munford on February 28, 2009 at 8:53 PM

That Paul vote is an embarrassment, sure, and Governor Palin probably didn’t help herself by not showing up, but 13% without even being present is pretty impressive. There’s time, not only for her to get up to speed but to win over the voters.

I hope.

Once in a while a PATRIOT speaks.
Today was that day.
Rush can articulate why we dislike dictators, left or right.
Into action write, phone, email the idiots and let em know 2010 ii is on!

Every man that opposed the king had a price on his head,so be it.

If the Republicans nominate Romney, they will be surprised how well he will do. I was in Boston when he won the Governorship in Massachusetts with all major media against him. And he will have a lot to rip Obama apart on.

RedSoxNation on February 28, 2009 at 8:54 PM

I dvr’d the whole thing, can’t wait to watch it again. The award was amazing, I screamed “OMG!” my daughter who was running a fever (5 yrs. old) was asking me all kinds of questions about America, what does it mean to be an American, and who’s Benjamin Franklin.

I laughed, I clapped, I nodded, I was sooo jealous not to be there! He preached to the choir definitely, and I hope he does more TV appearances…

The end may be near, but conservatism needs to be reintroduced to our current politicians. Perhaps Rush needs to take them to a summer camp retreat.

ProudPalinFan on February 28, 2009 at 8:55 PM

Rush’s first nationwide address. A resounding success! A great wrap up to CPAC.

By the way, C-SPAN is doing the re-broadcast as we speak.

I have been a 24/7 member for quite a few years so I never miss Rush – best money I have ever spent. The nice thing is that many others heard what I already know – he is a true conservative and is the bedrock of the movement. Politicians should listen to him. As for the speech, I thought it went a little long. Plus, I worry about Rush for not only his safety, but he has to take off some weight. I shouldn’t talk, so do I, but people don’t depend on me like we all depend on Rush to forge ahead. He has the power to do it. Hmmmm, so do we, I guess. Get out there and get working people. We can get rid of this liberal crowd, they are already digging their own hole and they don’t even realize it. RIP Pelosi – first and then Obama. Hope somebody is taking names of all the people that Obama’s people are putting in the government, because they will have to go when we regain the White House and government to save this Country. Love ya Rush – thank you.

I am starting to warm up to Romney. I don’t know a lot about his record and articulated stands when he was Gov of MASS, but I have gotten the impression he has flipped on many issues and appears to have acted opportunisticly; is that accurate?

Well, I am sure that the “Real Reagan Conservatives” who hang out here were greatly embarrassed by Rush. I myself, by their standards, being a “Fake Reagan Conservative” simply loved it. If we could get a bunch of Jindal’s, Palin’s and Rush ditto heads into office in 2010 it would make a big difference.

Don’t fret “Real Reagan Conservatives”, you still have Peggy Noonan and Juan Williams, and be assured that all your friends across the isle won’t hold you in contempt.

I think what Rush did was fire the first shot in the new culture war.

RobertInLexington on February 28, 2009 at 9:03 PM

sheebe on February 28, 2009 at 9:03 PM

Politicians of every stripe should be afraid of him. He says that Reps lose because they try to be like Democrats, with a little tweaking here and there. Isn’t that McCain, et al.?

Articulate fiscal conservatism, the way real people live, and the Reps will win again!! It is the media’s fault conservatives are misunderstood, but it’s conservatives’ fault too. Where is the education and outreach? What is the larger issue of fiscal conservatism rather than just stinginess? Rush voiced the true principles, and I hope I hear a candidate say the same things soon.

I watched it live — one of Rush’s greatest strengths, beyond his talent for articulating core conservative principles, is his ability to laugh out loud at the Libs.
His joke about Joe Biden’s bigotry was spot-on perfect. Conservatives need to be reminded that the Libs may be a threat to individual liberty and personal autonomy, but they also tend to be clownish — both individually and collectively.

I’m really glad Rush hit this:

I mean, there’s some people you can’t say you want the President to fail. Ladies and gentlemen of the United States, the Democrat Party has actively not just sought the failure of Republican presidents and policies and now wars for the first time, the Democrat Party doesn’t stop at failure. Talk to Judge Robert Bork or Justice Clarence Thomas about how they tried to destroy lives, reputations and character, and I’m supposed to say I don’t want the President to fail? [Applause] We’re in for a real battle. We are talking about the United States of America — and there will always be an America, don’t misunderstand me — we’re talking about it remaining the country we were all born into and reared and grown into. And it’s under assault. It’s always under assault. But it’s never been under assault like this from within before. And it’s a serious, serious battle.

Rush is so NOT Winston Churchill or Ronald Reagan. Churchill and Reagan didn’t just fight with free speech for the good causes of the day, they had the ball to lead campaigns to face the voters and sometimes painfully (and wrongfully) lost. Rush Limbaugh never has and never will.

At least John McCain – a person Rush hates so much – had the balls to run for President. Not to mention Sarah Palin, who should get into talk radio. Not to mention Mike Huckabee – not exactly a guy I concur with – who ran for office and won before entering political talk. Not to mention Joe Scarborough who made me a conservative.

Rush looked like he was high on something. And he’s morbidly obese. I hope he hasn’t relapsed.

With the tanking stock market and his cabinet full of retreads, dolts and affirmative action second-raters, Obama has had the worst first month in office since William Henry Harrison.

rush said of course he wants our President to fail with two wars and a depression.

And you agree?

getalife on February 28, 2009 at 9:09 PM

Yes. Stop equating Obama with America. It’s creepy. Rush doesn’t want America to lose her wars or to fall into a depression, and he wants Barack Obama to fail, since Obama’s policies will make a depression more likely.

Actually, he told the lobbyists he is ready to fight on the budget.

getalife on February 28, 2009 at 9:20 PM

Which lobbyists? The ones advising him that he boasted would never be allowed to?

That’s because he eats liberals for breakfast! ZAPOW!

A few hours later he “eliminates” the waste which somehow makes it into Democrat policies and think-tanks. Hmmmmm……..

Quoting Brian the dog from Family Guy: “I leave more personality in tightly coiled piles on the lawn.”

IF that’s what he said, then hell yes. But I want somebody 100,000 times smarter than Rush – named Glenn Beck – to save us. And Sarah Palin. And John McCain. And Rick Santelli.

Rush is 20 pounds away from exploding. Here’s to hoping!

The most pathetic part is, that probably is the best you got. But, then, what else would you expect from a liberal… reasoned dialogue?

He was high on good will, the love of a crowd, and patriotism. That’s probably why you didn’t recognize any of it.
