Video: Colbert challenges Michael Steele to freestyle rap debate

posted at 7:08 pm on February 27, 2009 by Allahpundit

Another race-related insult from the left? Nah, just a palate cleanser with spice. This isn’t a goof on Steele’s authenticity but on his embarrassing habit recently of trying to make Republicans look hip via heavy-handed usage of slang that went stale years ago. Let’s hope the fact that the meme’s reached late-night TV is enough to warrant an intervention among the RNC leadership. It is, after all, hard to imagine The One sending “slum love” to anyone. Semi-related exit question: “You be da man”? Is she kidding?

As usual, Allah is the only one who gets it about the difference between comedy and politics. And yes Michelle Be Da Man Bachman IS serious.

I have to say, this one is well deserved. Steele has to stop with this silly act. The GOP will never be cool and will only look dorky when they try to be. Talk straight about ideas.

Mark1971 on February 27, 2009 at 7:17 PM

Curtis Sliwa did a rebuttal to all the liberal progressive bloggers and Ben Smith of Politico that reported on his interview with Steele.
He said as a Guardian Angel he actually went to the neighborhoods Obama went as a community organizer and talked to criminals, drug addicts, etc. and talk their language, areas where he said, some of these white bloggers will never go. LOL.

Conservative politicians need to worry about being truthful and available and faithful to their constituents. They need to be on the same page, standing together, throwing out the 3 cowards from the northeast. They need to stop worrying about how the airhead population perceives them and just be Conservatives.

As much hope as I have in Micahael Steele, he’s too glib for me.

petefrt on February 27, 2009 at 7:31 PM

Oh by all means……….

……. let’s stiffel Michael Steele’s sense of humor. Yes, he has a tremendous task ahead of him, but the ability to laugh at himself, all the while poking fun at the pop-culture, media hyped, gangsta-rap, hip-hop culture that the left, especially Hollywood, likes to define the Negro community of America, speaks volumes.

He is not running away from it, in fact, he is shoving it back in their faces…….

……… and then they become offended?

HA!

Keep it real to yourself Michael………..

………. otherwise some ex-campaign staffers that worked for John McCain on Gov. Palin’s behalf, just might tell you not to be yourself, and repeat the same old line over and over again.

……………. give me a break.

First time watching Colbert in a long while… since his famous Bush bash years ago. Don’t watch a lot of his ‘comedy’, but Colbert on Steele was brilliant, the funniest satire in years! Satire at its best!

I’m a big fan of Michael Steele and, for the benefit of Steele and us conservatives,I hope Steele takes Colbert seriously.

Terry Silver on February 27, 2009 at 7:57 PM

Okay, I love this place, but nonetheless I’m going to rant on: As much hope as I have in Michael Steele, he has asked for every bit of the Colbert satire. (And the Colbert rant was exceptionally clever.)

William Amos on February 27, 2009 at 7:55 PM

As disappointed as I may be with Steele in the last few days, I don’t see that at all.

It’s a hard line between conservative conviction and ‘Uncle Tom’ vulnerability for black folks in mainstream power to walk in today’s culture, and my view is Steele has done okay, at least up to now.

I fault him more for waffling on whether to shut out Specter, Collins and Snowe for their selling out the country earlier this month.

We just need to accept the fact that we are the party of nerds. We will never get any following in Hollywood among all the beautiful people or in the music industry among the hip and cool. We need to stop trotting out Chuck Norris and Bo Derek and pretend we can compete with liberals in this arena. We have to learn to embrace our dorkiness.

elle_k on February 28, 2009 at 12:01 PM

Cannot drop Chuck, sorry…he fought with Master Lee.

Think about demographics and ratings, ppl…what Sarah did for SNL (it won’t happen on this one) and reach out to people that want to get “lite” news and don’t care for politicians but that vote for any dope that promises the sun, moon and stars…

I want Michael Steele to go and rim him a good one. With Hollywood, the problem is that once you “out” yourself as a Republican, unless you have an exceptionally strong career, you are thrown to the backseat, meaning 3rd backseat of a minivan.

Lighten up, people; we are incredibly miserable already. And it’s gonna get worse.
