If thats the case, where are the conservative “intellectual pursuits”? Forgive my example, for every hannity…wheres the conservative NPR? Somewhere where news and analysis of it isnt done in such an coulteresque juvenile fashion. because im sorry, but hannity/coulter/rush/oreilly can be right but use very juvenile emotional arguments to get their point across…where is there a place devoid of that? without a visible wing of the party on that side of things its easy to marginalize republicans as all JTP’s running around with slogans as their only ammunition for use against the real problems we face.

Heh, Allah is dead right. There are plenty of people who voted for Obama who aren’t enamored with him. The problem is that the alternative is a bunch of nutball zealots with bibles and nascar hats. One party rule – regardless of party isn’t good. Healthy opposition is. Even if you lose and aren’t in power you can shape the debate. As it stands, that isn’t happening.

Time to clean up the image. Think Eisenhower and Buckley – fools like Sarah Palin and Joe/Sam the ‘Plumber’ don’t cut it.

Is has always been thus.
Leaders, good ones, often become martyrs bcs no one appreciates them til they’re gone & everything sucks & then we want them back.
This happens in school administrations all the time.
Have a good principal, parents & community & schoolboard get rid of them bcs they are enforcing the rules.
Then you get a clown in the position who doesn’t do jack & then everyone muses “Hmmmm that Mr so & so was such a great guy!”
Fickle public, we have become.

Bush never hid “war spending”. It was out there for the world to see.Instead of trying to bribe and hide spending like the democrats are doing,war spending was put forth to be voted on and was completely transparent

To which I would add, Baxter Green, that the Dems felt compelled to include budget-busting pork in each of these war allocation expenses.

IIRC, Derbyshire voted for McCain because of Palin. Contrary to MSM blatherings, Palin is no ideologue. In my opinion she really needs to expand her dialogue. She needs to never mention media bias again, no matter how true or accurate her statement. She needs to look at nothing as a “gotcha” question. She should and could have supplanted Couric by just being honest. She didn’t have to know the answer to her questions, and while the dance she did around Couric’s questions is a dance that Obama can pull off, she really can’t because that’s not who she is. She’s not fake. Even Mayor Koch said he might not have been able to give Couric -based on the specifics of her question- the name of a SC Decision right of the top of his head. And Koch has acted as a Judge, I think. So, the point is, don’t be insecure because it’s bound to boomerang.

That said, the real reason Joe The Plumber has become a joke is because his own life didn’t measure up to Conservative standards. He owed the Feds money, he’s divorced, he turns on McCain, etc. Though I voted for McCain I turned on him too, but McCain never introduced me to the world. Palin and McCain are probably and truly friends. They’re the same. At present, I’m looking for leadership elsewhere.

While I realize that Joe didn’t hold himself up as some sort of paragon of virtue, if Conservatives are going to bring it, they need to bring it via competence -as Huck said- and proof of a conservative life lived. If we can’t do this -and I’m not sure we can- the social issues that we champion, especially life and family, lose all salience. Joe’s elevation has nothing to do with conservatism and everything to do with the shallow and plastic culture that surrounds us.

Disraeli won by uniting the top and the bottom during a time begging for reform. The middle has been changing along with the Country. It’s become tired and less sure of itself, and isn’t keeping pace with progress due to the explosion of the info age and how that’s impacted industry and the jobs it produces.

Sorry to drone on, I try to condense. I also say to myself too long, won’t read, but am not all that successful at being able to layer one thought inside another.

At bottom if Ruffini is offended by Joe and if Joe is offended by erudition and similar labors then our party is dead because at bottom, we detest one another and there’s nowhere to go from there except down.

Bill Clinton has no trouble showing his face in public and the list of evil acts perpetrated by both he and the harridan are mind boggling.

I think this site is good enough, and has enough fans, to charge. I don’t think people who truly hate it would pay to say so. Most of us probably don’t pay for a newspaper subscription anymore. That’s prob. $150-200/yr. that could go to HA. On the other hand, it would be difficult to “ban” a paying subscriber.
