Huckabee at CPAC: We need “competent conservatism”
posted at 9:31 pm on February 26, 2009 by Allahpundit
Parts two, three, and four of today’s stemwinder to the faithful in D.C. Where’s part one, you say? Good question. This comes from Huck’s PAC YouTube account and part one is nowhere to be found. Pity, too, because he evidently went off on McCain over TARP and Obama over everything else (“The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics may be dead, but the Union of American Socialist Republics is being born.”). If anyone can find the video of that, please e-mail us.
If you only have the patience for one clip, watch the middle one. I confess, I perked up at the mention of “strong, defensible borders.” Exit question: I know you guys hate him, but come on. Tell me he wouldn’t have rocked that rebuttal speech to Obama if they’d given it to him instead of Jindal.

I despise Huck, but he is a good speaker. I looked at him very seriously after a fantastic performance in one of the early primary debates because of how well he presents himself. If he hadn’t proved himself to be such an insincere, underhanded, faux-innocent slimeball in his campaigning, I’d have liked him a lot.

LOL! So would have Gov. Palin but I thought you weren’t a big fan of her either. HOPE AND CHANGE!

Huck’s weakness on crime and raising of taxes is what spoiled me on him.

Quite so.
This speech is enjoyable. I don’t like the phrase “competent conservatism” – too close to Bush’s CC, but he has a valid point with it.

If only he didn’t think the Constitution is a living document, support college tuition for illegal aliens, support smoking bans, call anti-amnesty politician un-Christian….what was I saying?

Didn’t Huck and McCain work together to defeat Mitt in a primary not so long ago………….?
………….. yeah, we remember that Huck.
The only reason you have a show on FOX is that you’re Democrat Light.

You know, Allah is just putting chum in the water for the sharks and I’ve been having to take more shots of Jager to quell the anger.
Hate is a strong word and that does not come close to what I feel about Huckabee. He delivered us a dead candidate for the republican presidential ticket. Now, you can’t watch Fox News without seeing him blathering on about conservative values. Besides being a former pastor, he has no values that I would consider conservative. And as far as being a Christian, blah, look what he did to Mitt.
I wish he would just go back to Arkansas and start dating Bubba’s sloppy seconds. I’ve had enough!
STFU you pompous, overrated ass!
HornetSting on February 26, 2009 at 9:48 PM
He’s a great speaker, lets get that out in the open. But he does things that really get under my skin. A show on Fox News is where he belongs.
And his rebuttal would have been better delivered.
AbaddonsReign on February 26, 2009 at 9:49 PM
On Drudge now: Huckabee disqualifies himself.
BPD on February 26, 2009 at 9:49 PM
Yes, he would have given a good rebuttal speech, but then I think Jindal would have if he’d been allowed to just refute extemporaneously and not deliver something canned.
INC on February 26, 2009 at 9:51 PM
Im sorry, but you made me laugh out loud with the statement “you all know Huckabee would have rocked the GOP response.” Oh yeah, Huckabee oozes charisma doesnt he? He would have been great giving the response, I mean he could have reused that set from the commercial he did that had the floating cross, I mean window, in it, that would have been so inspiring! Please, the guy makes my skin crawl, Romney 2012.

I don’t hate Huckabee at all. My “problem” with him has been that I don’t believe a national candidate should run on their religion. A strong Christian myself, I don’t have a problem with Huckabee being a Christian – in fact I like it because he’s ideals are close to mine in many cases – but I felt Huckabee worn his religion on his sleeve. Live it yes, but talking about it in politics or expecting everyone else to live it is just wrong.
katablog.com on February 26, 2009 at 10:00 PM
Yes, he would have rocked, but he also had an audience, right?

DannoJyd on February 26, 2009 at 10:04 PM
I’m a Christian and I don’t think modern America would ever elect a former pastor as President. All the opposition has to do say: He’s a former pastor, we need keep church and state so don’t vote for my opposition. And that’s it, they are done.
terryannonline on February 26, 2009 at 10:05 PM
I personally don’t “hate” Huckabee. I don’t even “hate” Obama. But something isn’t right with Huckabee. Just a gut-feeling I have. Plus he was too much of a populist during the primaries.
But I agree he would have done well with a SOTU rebuttal.
If America had more than two ossified parties, Huckabee would have a shot, otherwise, no.

Whether it’s a Jindahl, Palin, or Huckabee thread, I can’t help but think that the posts sound too much like we are always mincing and dicing ideal qualities we want to see in our “dream candidate”.
What’s spooky about that is I suspect that the Dems did the same thing. . . and voila, they created Obama in all his glory. (It’s ALIVE!!) A perfectly contrived, manufactured candidate with no soul, no personality, no history.

Sure he would have, but I don’t believe his reformation is sincere. His political career is in remission but he still has political aspirations. However, if he’s consistent over the next four years he’ll probably have a shot because American’s persist with their short political memories, even many here at HA.

I don’t know what you people’s problem with Huckabee is. Need I remind you that Ronald Reagan also RAISED taxes when he was the governor of California in 1967…by a $BILLION$ dollars? What set him apart prior to his presidency was his ability to COMMUNICATE conservative principles and ideas.
If you have a beef with Huck, I suggest you read his book. If you remember, he issued this challenge to Ann Coulter a short while ago, and I haven’t heard her utter a negative peep about him since. If you don’t feel like buying his book, just read the first three chapters in the bookstore.

mike huckabee was once a preacher in my town and he said he was “called”. i guess he was then “called” to run for governor during which time he all but destroyed the educational system in the state of arkansas. then i guess he was “called” to the national stage. he is nothing but a showman and a phony. he started his posturing the minute the election was over. criticized palin and mccain. trying to distinguish himself from everyone else on the right.

Mike Huckabee is an opprotunist of the worst order. He is a hater. What he did to Romney is unforgivable. While I did not support Romney in the primaries Huckabee used his base to destroy a strong contender all the while smiling and waving. He did the same to Palin during the campaign. Expect him to start his rumor campaign on Jindal.
He is forever the little fat kid inside, picked last for team sports and carries a grudge happily. He wants you all to belive he is from Mayberry, but his political chops were formed in Hope Arkansas, the Chicago of the bible belt.
With friends like Hubackbee, who needs enemies.

I was wondering how long it would take. Just can’t help yourself can you, Madison. You’re like a moth to the flame. Again, sending me a message and getting your facts wrong in the process. As far as Olaf is concerned, I withdrew my support for him the moment I realized he was anti-semitic. He hid it very well. I didn’t know. When I read some of his comments against Jews I sharply challenged and rebuked him and told him I could not support anybody who was spreading hate and propoganda towards God’s people. People who persecute Jews and think they are offering a service to God is not something I want to be a part of. I made that VERY clear to him! So you associating me with Olaf is really quite unfair, but at this point I expect it from you. It’s worth noting that the disciples thought Judas was a true Christian until it was discovered that he was dishonest and a false disciple all along. Judas’s heart was full of greed and deception, and so it was easily available for Satan to possess. He had never been a true disciple, and I think this is similar to Olaf’s situation. I think Olaf is confused and I blame much of his confusion on the Orthodox Church he is involved with. The way they are vilifying Jews is impossible. That’s where Olaf gets alot of his views. I pray he realizes that he is caught up with a false teaching straight from the pits of hell. I pray he sees this and rejects it – and gets right with the Lord. He is no exception. Each of us will have to face God one day, “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Romans 14:11-12
