Matthews: I said “Oh God” in exasperation at the “odd anti-bellum look” of Jindal’s set
posted at 2:32 pm on February 25, 2009 by Allahpundit
Via TV Newser, a sneak peek at what “Barack’s” biggest fan will offer tonight on Hardball to atone for the latest Olby/Matthews embarrassment:
I was taken aback by that peculiar stagecraft, the walking from somewhere in the back of this narrow hall, this winding staircase looming there, the odd anti-bellum look [sic] of the scene. Was this some mimicking of a president walking along the state floor to the East Room?
Evidently, narrow halls and winding staircases are distinctly ante-bellum. If I were a cynic, I might read this as yet another example of Matthews’s race-baiting, trying to connect Jindal to some sort of Confederate ethos opposite America’s first black president. Good thing I’m not a cynic, huh?
Judge for yourself. Here, again, is the “oh god” crack, and below it a reference he made to the GOP having “outsourced” the rebuttal to Jindal. A racist jibe at Jindal’s Indian heritage? Nah. I’m sure it’s innocent. But rest assured, had it come from someone else, the very first guy to find sinister intent in it would have been Chris Matthews.

I ain’t believing something this stupid. The only way a blog or any other site on the Internet is “private property” is if it closed except to selected users.
Otherwise, it’s open. Yeah, you can block to some limit with pinging and other tools, but if someone wants to get into a site bad enough, they can. Funny how comment sections on some sites require registration and others don’t – but none I know that consider themselves “blogs” go to the extent of true portal-blocking of unwanted viewers – all the hit-whores want the money generated by the hits! HA comes to mind.
Get over yourself already. You don’t like what someone says, don’t read it, don’t respond. Not like someone in a room with you won’t shut up.

Chris Matthews is a pathetic sicko with a man-crush on Obama! He’s an anchor who is supposed to be impartial! They use Olbermann and Matthews on MSNBC to anchor the event last night. You don’t see Hannity and Oreilly anchoring these events for Fox. The liberal media is no better than TASS or Pravda in the old Soviet Union and the current government is made up of neo-marxists! It’s a very bad situation.

Ahhhh so for some reason Chris “pop n fresh doughboy” Matthews (seem him in all his a-tinglin’ glory here: http://www.pillsbury.com/AaLL/) is okay with his racism against Indian-Americans, just not his racism against African-Americans. I get it now, he and the dessicated mass that is Helen Thomas, (among others) are just overcompensating! White guilt run amuck. And since the Indian-American population is far too modest and well-behaved to turn to the streets in protest, this will all get a pass. Nice.

Forgive me if this was stated upthread, but . . . the staircase doesn’t look distinctly Southern to me. More like the same kind of typical Neoclassical style you would see in many parts of the country. Still, giving Chrissy the benefit of the doubt: I don’t know where Jindal delivered his speech from, but I’m assuming it was Baton Rouge. That being the case, why WOULDN’T the backdrop look antebellum?
Chris Matthews might well be the stupidest person alive.

I hate where we have come as a people when we look for HOW someone says something, rather than WHAT it is being said. That is why “the one” is the POTUS. God Help Us. Despite his acting ability and anchor skills Jindahl is exactly what this country needs right now.
P.S. I would like to punch Chris Mathews in the face. I hope every Indian American grows to despise him for that racist statement.

Chrissy couldn’t even point out Utah and Nevada on an electoral college map during the campaign. I thank My God that his influence seems to be waning as fewer people are watching MSNBC these days.
Also, what did he expect to see in Baton Rouge, Louisiana?
Now, if Mrs. Jindal came down the stairs dressed as Scarlett O’Hara…
Dr. ZhivBlago on February 26, 2009 at 2:14 AM
anti-bellum or ante-bellum?
It beats mimicking Triumph of the Will like Obama
I saw Gone with the Wind and Jindal’s set is no Tara. Maybe Aunt Pittypat’s home. If I was suddenly confronted with a scene from Aunt Pittypat’s home would I groan ‘Oh God?’
Matthews reminds me of Aunt Pittypat. They both get the vapors
Reminds me of Gore pulling the same stunt in the debates

In response to the spitters comment about the “antebellum” setting…maybe he should go back and take another look at the ostentatious setting that Obama had set up for himself in Denver. At least Jindal’s was “real”.

“Oh, it was just fine and dandy for Barack Obama to appear in front of a fake Greek temple at the DNC convention, or in front of a fake presidential seal before he was even the official Democrat nominee –

Given, Matthews is a racist offended by anything Southern.
The screw in the matter is that Matthews played his disdain of anti-bellum as “odd” given Jindal’s presence in the Governors Mansion.
Another Matthews’ apologist said Jindal looked creepy coming out from the dark.
The cowardly media bastards need a swift kick in the ass to taste their own medicine.

With the Free Press and Constitutional Responsibilities:
Matthews, No You Can’t!
The media can not get a pass for practicing as individuals and as a group the very racism for which they politically assassinate others even when based upon fabricated guilt.
Upon entry and before a word is spoken, Matthews, the guest, is derisively heckling his gracious host, and has the audacity to not apologize for the disrespect, but persists in compounding his racism with MORE racism.
Matthews presumes that America agrees approvingly of himself. To the KKK Democrat Socialists, Jindal has no right to be in the Governors Manion. Matthews, who demands apologies from the world to suit his agenda, is too full of his own shit to squeeze out a clean apology.
Free Press “I Can Say And Do Whatever I Want” Matthews has the backing of his institution. He learned how to express his attitudes at work where he is a mere example of the press’ culture. His employers and colleagues are one with Matthews. They have abused the Constitution, having passed “public nuisance” to now present a public threat, destabilizing Constitutional balance of powers absorbed as their own.
maverick muse on February 26, 2009 at 8:46 AM
Phony excuse for inexcusable behavior. Mr. Matthews claims he has tingly feeling up and down his leg every time he sees or hears President Obama, then he needs something he can “Depends” on.

Allah, don’t know if any of the many posts have mentioned ths, but you seem to have picke up a misspelling for your headline. It’s not “anti-bellum,” which would mean something like “against war.” The proper spelling is “ante-bellum” which usually refers, as it would in this case, to the period before the Civil War.
Longhorn Six on February 26, 2009 at 12:27 PM

That is the way the place looks.
besides that, Mr. Matthews – what do you have against ante-bellum homes?
reine.de.tout on February 26, 2009 at 12:49 PM
I agree with Matthews to the extent that many Repubs in Congress aren’t writing or supporting conservative legislation or any real fiscal conservatism. Look how much pork the Repubs put into the latest ‘bill’. Considering this, I’m glad that the GOP ‘outsourced’ the response to Obama’s State of the Obama nation speech.
The OMG comment betrays his extreme bi-ass.
“Get over yourself already. You don’t like what someone says, don’t read it, don’t respond. Not like someone in a room with you won’t shut up.” klickink: I agree and I’d add that bloggers (and their defenders) shouldn’t offer opinions that they know will create a red meat scenario if they can’t take the heat. We all need to agree to disagree on certain things, but more importantly, focus on what unites us during this difficult time rather than playing into the ‘divide and conquer’ strategy of the Obama Nation.

You are on to something here. Matthews, on the evening of Jindal’s rebuttal, said repeatedly that the GOP was “outsourcing” the rebuttal duties to Jindal. That was a thinly-veiled dig at Jindal’s Indian heritage. I didn’t hear anyone talking about that choice of words, but that is what should be front and center.
Matthews is a DISGUSTING, RACIST PIG. He is a TOOL, a HACK, and a CLOWN. MSNBC’s wardrobe department should furnish him with a red rubber nose and floppy, oversized shoes. Or maybe, even more fitting, with a Grand Dragon costume.
