Heart-ache: 64% support stimulus, Obama’s mortgage plan

The One 1, Santelli 0. I’ll give you the good news, such as it is, up front: Support for the stimulus is actually down since last month, dropping from 70/27 to 64/35, and the congressional GOP’s approval rating is “up” from 25/69 last summer to 38/56 today. But that’s the extent of it. In the same period, congressional Democrats have leaped from 35/57 to 50/44, the first time they’ve hit 50 percent since April 2007. Two other ominous data points for you to chew on, since they’re not getting much play. First:

What’s worrisome about that? Click here and skip down to question 7 and you’ll see it’s the widest gap between the president and the opposition on that question in 20 years. And second:

Mind-boggling though it may be to fiscal conservatives, and notwithstanding the fact that 87 percent say they’re concerned about the deficit, the public isn’t quite ready to toss tea in the harbor yet — except with respect to further loans to the Big Three, where support now stands at a radioactive 30/68. Exit question: What about all the Rasmussen polls showing growing discontent with Spendathon 2009? Well, discontent doesn’t necessarily mean disapproval; the public may be willing to accept this, however grudgingly, as hard medicine to prevent disaster. To the extent that Rasmussen’s suggesting anything else, check out the recent stimulus polls here and you’ll see that they’re swimming against the tide. Which isn’t anything new.

And anyway, between democrats and illegal aliens it’s not hard to get numbers like this.
Wish they’d poll me once in my life.

Well, if we look at the average American debt-to-savings ratio, it’s obvious more than 64% really don’t think about long-term financial consequences.

Yeah, well when the government taxes you on interest earned on savings, which you have to pay even if you don’t withdraw a dime, there’s not a hell of a lot incentive to save.

Market Research/Polling was the specialty of the chairman of my graduate committee.
What comes out is dictated by what goes in. You can rig them any way you want.
The trick is finding the truth with them, not in getting them to justify your political position.
I think Rassmussen tries to get to the truth of the question, this one is like a Susan Pinkus/Los Angeles Times Poll. It’s probably got some really cute little wrinkles in the demographics to get the answer they want. Susan does that a lot. At least when ever she exposes her methodology.

Both or neither? Yea, worded appropriately.
I think this is fantastic, since I have no money in the stock market, I have a job and not in fear of losing it, have property that is paid for in CA including rental that keeps my pockets lined, and no bonds or t-bills. So, I’m cool. Feel bad for the rest of the fools voting for more stimulus who have lost their jobs, are in foreclosure, repo-ed car, 401K vested heavily in the stock market and 2 years from retirement who now have to live on peanuts and rent at my apartments. Have fun folks trading in your computers for a hoe and shovel. Hard labor is just what the doctor ordered for your fat a$$ McDonald’s eating, soda drinking, Liberal obese ‘tard to get into shape.

This reminds me of global warming in odd way. Stick with me. Tackling Global Warming sounds feel good and great until financial reality hits. The people poll in favor while saying so makes them feel good and you can’t expect them to be against it till real world effects are put into play. Obama owns the bully pulpit and just talks about bankers and homeless people. Except for right wing sites and Fox who is even giving the details on the personal irresponsiblity of the homewowners. I wouldn’t expect any difference in numbers UNTIL THE TEA PARTIES, ETC. START TELLING THE HORROR STORIES. Saying this poll uncuts talking about what BS is going on is the complete opposite of the truth. WE NEED TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE HOMEOWNERS. The bus driver who bought an $800,000 house. The ACORN lady who refinanced for $200,000 more than the house was bought for and can’t pay in the first year? The truth is AP we haven’t fought back yet.

Give it time. The money’s not being spent yet, the wrangling and infighting and “what the hell do we do with this cash now” have not begun in earnest. All that will be on display for months. And the eligibility rules for the mortgage programs won’t be finalized until the first week of March. There’s time yet to be disappointed.
Just wait until we get Obamacare and the estimated 50+ million people dropped from employer-provided insurance programs reflect on Obama’s broken promise that “if [they] like their coverage [they] can keep it.”
DrSteve on February 24, 2009 at 4:42 PM
The only things this poll illustrates are 1) the sad ignorance of the American public and 2) the treasonous failure of our nation’s news media in keeping said public informed.

If I recall from history class, there was never more than ~30% support (at best) for the revolution the first time around.
We don’t need 50% + 1, we simply need the 30% of the population that are “doers” and we would be able to enact some real changes and get things back on track.

The deadbeats at the pork troughs are not the ones who invested in 401Ks. Nope, it’s more likely that they “invested” in their own Section 8 housing allowances, and who knows – as a rental property owner you yourself may have benefited from taxpayer’s largess.
Do try not to disparage the working/investor class.

Exactly only Obama people glossed over in their head why people are going to pay for health insurance when Obama says he is going to offer health care for free.
Exactly what business would exist in it’s present form if the government gave away their product for free? In the case of health care I would add that they were talking the same plans or better than private.

64%? I have never, EVER felt such a disconnect with the apparent majority… My 11 year old has a better grasp of how ruinous Hopey-Changey’s policies will be, yet her college educated, forty-six year old godfather just loves the guy. When I point out that his double-income, no-kids, nice-home-owner lifestyle will probably be savaged by these same policies, he waves me off and says, “No way. I’m a little guy. Obama’s only going after the rich!” The guy and his wife have a combined income of over 150K… Won’t he be in for a surprise to find out just how ‘rich’ he is…
CaptFlood on February 24, 2009 at 4:51 PM
I didn’t read any of the posts so sorry if I repeat anything. But I could swear I remember at least one or two other polls saying something else? At least nearly 50/50 with a little more aginst it? The fix is in with the BS polling, and it has been for months and years now.
I wanna see what the Hopeless One does when he knows the people will be coming after him with torches and such. I would have said noose but since that’s racist I figured I wouldn’t…even though plenty of whites were hanged too.

Trust a poll paid for by the msm? No thanks, I’ll trust in Rasmussen’s numbers as they are far more likely to be accurate.

Then it wouldn’t be an inside joke.

LimeyGeek on February 24, 2009 at 4:57 PM
Allah,
You are too naive to accept a question posed as the President versus a group. Anybody knows that polling will always favor the person. C’mon, that is why the question is asked that way.
Second question you illustrate is vague. It is intentionally vague, assuming most only have a marginal view of what ’stimulus’ means. If it had said $787 Billion the answers would have been different.
Finally, the sample is skewered. Trash.

What the crap is this? Everybody with a positive IQ is aware that punctuation, capitalization, and even spelling rules dont apply to blog talk, texting, emailing, etc. Its a different set of rules vis a vis letter writing, etc.
It has nothing to do with “stupid”.

HA HA HA HA!!! What a laugh. If albert einstein was here today using a blackberry, he wouldnt be following letter-writing punctuation rules in his text messages. It has nothing to do with being able to write coherently, or being influenced by the TV show, American Idol or anything else.
The only excuse for your lack of understanding on this issue is if you are 75 years old or older.
Regardless, your post…especially your calling me a “twat”…. allows me to conclude that you are a moronic dickhead who has a vastly over-inflated opinion of your intelligence.
The Wall on February 24, 2009 at 5:14 PM
Yeah, but it could be that only 25% of the population has even a foggy notion as to what the hell the stimulus and mortgage proposals entail. If they get their info from the MSM, all they’ll probably know is that 1. we’re all gonna die if this isn’t done and 2. we’re going to get lots of goodies!!!!!
ddrintn on February 24, 2009 at 5:19 PM
HA HA HA!!! What a laugh.
If albert einstein were alive today using a blackberry, he would not be using letter-writing style punctuation in his text messages. It has NOTHING to do with intelligence, or the TV show, American Idol or any other idiotic thing bouncing around in your head. It is the ACCEPTED norm…. even with intelligent people…or people who dont watch American Idol.
Your only possible excuse for your idiocy would be if you are 75 years old…or older.
Regardless, your post…particularly your calling me a “twat” allows me to conclude that you are just a d*ckhead with an over-inflated opinion of your intelligence.

Oh, I do not know if I believe this. Most of the people I know are not nearly so enthralled with all this.
I also think there is a lot of difference in the polls which might be caused by how the question is asked. For instance, I think most people probably do support some sort of stimulus, but I am not sure they support this particular plan.
As for the Democrats being at 50%, we shall see. There are other polls showing Republicans making gains.
I say we wait until elections are held. Then we will know how people really feel.
Terrye on February 24, 2009 at 6:11 PM
64% support stimulus?
I bet this is because the rest of America hasn’t yet seen Cantor’s amazing Aerosmith youtube video. People, I thought we were twittering this?!

e-pirate:
I can remember when 70% supported the invasion of Iraq.
The truth is the polls are kind of all over the place on this. Anywhere from 38% support to 64%. I have a feeling that once the true cost sinks in that support might tank.
Terrye on February 24, 2009 at 6:37 PM
I thought this was interesting, I saw it at Power Line :
As I noted earlier this evening, the American public is showing virtually no confidence in the economic measures that have been implemented or advocated by the Obama administration. In today’s Washington Post, Robert Samuelson reminded us why that is so: the “stimulus” bill had little to do with the economy, and a great deal to do with Democratic Party politics:
Judged by his own standards, President Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus program is deeply disappointing. For weeks, Obama has described the economy in grim terms. … Given these dire warnings, you’d expect the stimulus package to focus almost exclusively on reviving the economy. It doesn’t, and for that, Obama bears much of the blame.
His politics compromise the program’s economics. Look at the numbers. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that about $200 billion will be spent in 2011 or later — after it would do the most good. …
Big projects take time. They’re included in the stimulus because Obama and Democratic congressional leaders are using the legislation to advance many political priorities instead of just spurring the economy. …No one knows the economic effects of all this; estimates vary. But Obama’s political strategy stunts the impact from what it might have been.
Terrye on February 24, 2009 at 6:42 PM
The rest will know it soon, but not soon enough to stop it.
Rae on February 24, 2009 at 7:02 PM
Polls are pretty much useless, especially when they fail (like this one) to break down the numbers of who they asked. By manipulating the mix of republicans and democrats (or liberals and conservatives) you can get whatever results you want.
I’ll never understand why space is wasted on polls. Well, I KNOW why the lamestream press does it, but why HA?
darwin-t on February 24, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Are you trying to tell me that 60+% of the Americans polled in this that say they want more stimulus are Sec 8?
I’m not disparaging anyone except those 60+% polled whoever they may be. Those dumb 60+% that want more of the same will, I suspect by all the indicators, be losing their jobs too pretty soon. And based on the stimulus package that purports to invest in a bunch of bridges and roads, they’ll have to be getting those government jobs they voted for with the stimulus. That wouldn’t be sitting behind a desk, but working with a pitchfork, shovel, or, a hoe. So, those liberal enough to think the government bailing them out is the way to go will eventual, I believe, see their hands wrapped around a stick and get to spend some nice thoughtful time outside getting one with nature.
As for Section 8? You have to abide by a lot of laws to get it. Once they’re in, you can never get them out and you can never raise their rent. I don’t take Section 8 so I’m sorry, I’m not living off of anyone’s largess. I’m insulted that you say that my rental property is some charity for me. People don’t treat YOUR property like they treat their own. You know not what you speak of here.
