Good news: U.S. to pledge $900 million to rebuild Gaza

Via JWF, who calls it a different kind of “stimulus package.” After flushing $800 billion down the toilet on the stimulus, flushing another $900 mil in a doomed attempt to buy goodwill from a revanchist anti-western culture seems almost like a bargain.
The money, which needs U.S. congressional approval, will be distributed through U.N. and other bodies and not via the militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza, said one official.
“This money is for Gaza and to help strengthen the Palestinian Authority. It is not going to go to Hamas,” said the official, who asked not to be named as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton planned to announce the funding at a donors’ conference in Egypt next week…
Clinton’s bid to get “substantial” funds could face an uphill battle in Congress because Hamas continues to rule Gaza and the U.S. focus is on its own souring economy…
The United States wants Abbas’s PA to play a central role in the reconstruction effort in Gaza, hoping this will increase its influence in the Hamas stronghold. Washington is also putting pressure on other donors to bolster Abbas.
Wasn’t one of the left’s chief criticisms of Israel’s Gaza operation that there was no Plan B if Hamas disintegrated? Fatah couldn’t ride in as the white knight on the backs of Israeli tanks to restore order or else they’d be seen as stooges and collaborators, we were told, not unreasonably. How is this de facto bribe of Gazans by Uncle Sam to restore Abbas to authority any different? And why would Hamas take the chance of letting the Palestinian Authority back into the strip knowing the threat it might pose to their hegemony? What am I missing here?

This is outrageous that I can’t help but wonder if it can be blocked in Congress.
1) Why should the US have to pay a billion dollars to rebuild Gaza when it will still be run by Hamas, an organization which refuses to accept any peaceful solution to Middle East problems, works for Iran, and therefore supports the destruction of the United States?
2) The Obama Administration is sure to claim that the money won’t go to Hamas, but even Bush’s money for Gaza went through UNWRA, which is basically in partnership with Hamas. Nothing happens in Gaza without Hamas approval. UN Aid shipments are stolen by Hamas and re-sold to the civilian population there to buy arms. If anyone thinks that Suzie UN Bureacrat is going to demand an accounting from Hamas they are smoking the good stuff on their break.
3) What is the point in “rebuilding”? Doesn’t this simply reward violence and terrorism by Hamas? Let them stew in their own pot, we aren’t going to change the dynamic of Gaza by bailing out Iranian sponsored terrorists.

Even if any infrastructure does get built with the money, it will be vaporized when the next round of fighting starts again in 6 to 12 months. Then more money is donated. Rinse. Repeat.

Sadly, if you take the actual number of Gazan residents and divid it evenly by $900 million, they would each get more moeny than they would make in 10 years. Or you would confiscate the money stolen from them by Yassar Arafat from his luxury loving wife in Paris, and build schools.
Unlike Iraq, these are people who choose to remain stuck in victimhood because it is all they have. They don’t want jobs, or education, or a future. The majority of American voters chose Obama. The Jews particularly aren’t responsible for him, but are largely collectively responsible along with the other libs.
That being said, from personal experience, I can tell you that Obama voters sleep very well at night, haven’t the slightest clue about the precipice we’re standing at, and won’t find out until they fall over it. My advice is not to count for or wait for anyone else to “wake-up.”
