Arnold to Sanford and Jindal: I vill take de stimulus money if you don’t want it

Two videos, one from this morning and the other from 1990, tracking the evolution of a Republican icon. I’m no expert on Milton Friedman, but I imagine he’d find the “emergency” rationale for higher taxes rather highly nuanced indeed.
Exit question: When Schwarzenegger calls on the GOP to be “team players” by acquiescing in The One’s agenda, how long does he intend for “the game” to last? Until the emergency passes, whenever that is, or for Obama’s entire term?

I’ll take it a little further. You seem to be pro-Big Business as long as it is unionized, with artificially high wages and benefits packages. Once the unions do their work of making US labor prohibitively expensive, then it’s the fault of Republican politicians.

My IDIOT governor, I am so proud that I voted for him. /s

Where’s Opie. What happened to Spielberg. Aren’t they patriotic. Why aren’t they donating. Maybe they can have a Hollywood gala concert and celebity-a-thon and let all the folks in Hollyweird pony up their own dough to bail out CA. U2 can headline and Tom Hanks can walk around with a basket taking the collection.
Wait, my phone is ringing! It must Arnie congratulating me for my suggesting. What’s that? It’s the actor’s guild. They know where I live and where my children go to school.
Um, nevermind.

I’m someone who thinks of business as accountable to the communities to which they serve – that accountability and profitability go hand in hand – and not a perpetually evasive entity.
sethstorm on February 22, 2009 at 9:45 PM
Accountable to the government, in other words, usually resulting in increased costs and lower customer satisfaction. Such as happens when people like Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid get into the car-designing business.
You seem to envision a hierarchy of accountability, in which the “community” (read, “the state”) is paramount. Profits, shareholders and customers be damned. That’s a big part of our current problem, sethstorm.

Over at Flopping Aces, Scott posts the following, beginning with a quotation from Obama. Scott’s analysis has links within that cite the facts and sources.
“Now, my administration inherited a deficit of over $1 trillion, but because we also inherited the most profound economic emergency since the Great Depression, doing little or nothing at all will result in even greater deficits, even greater job loss, even greater loss of income, and even greater loss of confidence.” – B. Obama
It might be technically true that his Presidential Administration inherited it, but he himself did not. No, he created it. Before being elected President Barack Obama was a Senator in a party that controlled both houses of Congress with a lame duck President. From 2006-present, the economy has faltered increasingly. However, the big crash happened while he was a senator at a time when Congress ruled the land (ie a lame duck Presidency). Yes, President Bush still had some power, but the majority of power was with the Democratic Party-controlled Congress; with Senator Obama’s Congress. Add to that the fact that President Bush was unusually catering to Pres-elect Obama after the November election, and not only did Bush consult with Obama, but at Obama’s urging he authorized the bailouts for insurance company AIG, for car corporations, and for the $700billion TARP fiasco. Obama himself URGED the first $700billion, the deficit “his administration” inherited was created by a budget that he and his party created in Congress just prior to his election as President.
No, Obama did not inherit the bad economy. He created it, and shame on him for misrepresenting its origin by sly wording rather than honest and genuine admission of mistakes. Bush had enough mistakes to take responsibility for, and the time for scapegoating passed when millions of Democrats (filled with the spirit of hope, change, and bi-partisan unity) booed the figurehead of 46% of the nation as his helicopter left the Inauguration.
Obama and the Democrats created the bad economy, it happened on their watch-because of their budgeting, their bailout demands, and their poor choices. Time to man up Mr President.

Conservative States need to declare themselves sanctuaries from federal taxes and print their own currencies before they can turn down the looter money or else they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces.
It is not in the best interest for people to elect conservative governors and have fiscal responsibility in their states right now. The more parasitic a state’s government, the more it will benefit. Conservatives need to either try to become more parasitic than liberals or remove themselves from the parasite by secession while also purging the parasites within their borders.

Arnold had his nuts cut off in that stupid special election he tried. Maria cut him off and now he’s the eunuch in chief of the People’s Republik of Kalifornia.

So you wouldn’t mind a drug-manufacturing company cutting corners on quality control to save on production costs? Or a clothing company using Third-World slave labor to maximize profits?
Too much oversight is without doubt a Very Bad Thing. But very ugly things have happened in the past when the only concern businesses had was how to make more money. Left totally unchecked, a bunch of greedy men in suits can do just as much damage as our pork-loving Clowngress.

What if we all quit paying our mortgages? What would happen to the Banks then? I am so mad I could spit fire. They make a mess then take what we have. Our money. Maybe we should help and let it all fall. Quit paying our mortgages, or put our homes up for sale. I am spewing but might not be a bad idea.

Then why do I come up with examples that are decidedly non-union and require some creativity(such as IT/programming)? To re-iterate that from another post, they only touched unionization when horse already left the barn.

Ahnode has become a buttsniffing liberal. Far too many Kennedy family reunions.
Jaibones on February 23, 2009 at 12:29 AM
There are two adages passed down through tradition that make cogent comments on association. One is ‘birds of a feather flock together’ and the second is ‘if you lie down with dogs you wake up with fleas’.
Now take Obama’s relationship with Ayres and Dohrn and Arnold’s relationship with the Kennedy’s I think you have to agree that common sense tells you that these adages apply to both Obama and Arnold.
Why modern man or woman does not see this is beyond me.
Folks: crooks associate with crooks; rich people associate with rich or influential people; the golfers with personal jets associate mostly with the golfers with personal jets; and RINO’s associate with RINO’s or liberals and conservatives associate with other conservatives or libertarians and radical socialists associate with radical socialists or Marxists.
I am not talking about anything profound here.
technopeasant on February 23, 2009 at 1:00 AM
And RINO’s if you break bread with the Messiah and drink his wine you ‘have lain down with dogs and awakened with fleas’.
By definition if you associate with disreputable people you can expect to become more disreputable and disrespected yourself.

I suppose this issue is why there are divisions within the Republican party. I cannot see how states can turn down help right now, unless they truly have enough in the coffers and their economy is separate from the rest of us.
When a fight is over, it’s over. Time to move on and do what is best for people. If there’s truly strings attached, then fine. Turn that down. But to turn it down without a lot of input from people in the state is foolish and petty.
AnninCA on February 23, 2009 at 10:04 AM
I just got a look at my state’s spending of the stimulus package funds. All the money went to just about three cities. All run by and have been run by Dems for the past few years. It looks like a pay off for votes or those Dems don’t run their cities very well. Some of the funds went to fix levees in the downtown area of a large city. This has been a reocurring problem for the past 30 years especially in the spring with the snow melt in the mountains. They have had lots of time to fix the problem, but the powers that be never really took charge and did the work.
Our little town had an aging sewer system. A lot of it from the very beginning of the town’s sewer system’s exhistence. It took almost five years to complete. Streets all torn up and water standing when we had lots of rain and snow. It’s done now. Water hikes were inevetible and people complained, but it was well worth the money. Republicans have been in charage in the town and county every since we have lived here. Almost 15 years. Things do get done here and there doesn’t seem to be that much corruption. I am sure that there is some, but so far nothing really that bad. People’s minds seem to be right most of the time even though some are Democrats. Most of the officials seem to actually work for their constituents.
It becomes so obvious after living out here for a while that the Dems bring corruption to everything they touch. The RINOS are that way because they love their perks like the Dems and are not willing to make the tough choices. Arnold should have had that place cleaned up out there a long time ago. But he didn’t stick to his principles and didn’t have the courage to make the tough decisions. Working with Democrats never, ever works. They just want to take the easy way out. Giving Arnold more money is like pouring money down a rat hole.
BetseyRoss on February 23, 2009 at 11:15 AM
That’s not going to solve anything, the main problem we have is with welfare and other big government programs that have sucked California dry for the past 10 years. Oh and the $10 billion we erroneously give to illegal aliens.
Cr4sh Dummy on February 23, 2009 at 11:20 AM
Since all these states are taking our tax dollars, the least we should expect is to be able to cast a vote in their elections. No paying taxes without representation, right?? I know, we don’t have that at the Fed level either.
