Students like to make fun of their school’s traditions, but they should look ahead a bit. My husband went to a University that has a lot of traditions that are still followed today. When I go to a reunion, I am surprised how much money this public schools raises from it’s alumni. I am talking millions from each reunion class and this money goes for the most part to the academic side. And it is not one of the largest public universities. I went to a George Mason type university and it doesn’t raise anywhere near the money that my husband’s school raises.

George Mason has lost its credibility for permitting this offensive outrage and Ryan Allen (aka Reann Ballslee) appears to be nothing more than a sexually confused nutcase activist seeking his 15 minutes of fame. Those women who lost the contest, because the school permitted a male to compete, in a FEMALE contest event, ought to sue George Mason University. The word Queen connotes FEMALE, unless it is being used, in a derogatory manner.

It’s a college boor stunt. The only people dumber than the people who engage in it are the people who get outraged by it. Nobody puts Prom King/Queen on their resume. Most colleges don’t even have proms.

Well, my son is a female impersonator. He is more beautiful then Madonna. I about fell down when I saw his photo’s of the women he portrays. He best keep his paws off of my clothes though! I think that Ryan winning the crown is a tad twisted. But, my friend pointed out that some colleges do this. So as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone then I don’t care. To each their own.

Did this guy do this to get national attention or was this a story created by the media and reported nationally since GMU is in a Northern Virginia suburb and it is a slow news cycle since the President is clearly spending as little time in DC as possible? The guy won a homecoming queen contest. To equate that with anything more seems a stretch.

I agree. It’s kinda the same thing. This guy just came up with a stunt to get attention. People have been doing it forever. It was kinda my point. Attention seeking people ave been getting attention for ages. This is different from normal attention seeking homecoming queens. This is attention seeking on a much higher level. At least this guy hasn’t done a porn or flashed his crotch to get attention… yet.

Does anyone really care?

Of course not. It is an archaic custom that was never really a part of George Mason traditions. 20 years ago GMU was little more than a commuter college for Northern Virginia with aspirations of being more (which they have subsequently achieved). It’s just a silly diversion.

Compare that to the selection of the “Queen of Carnival” for the Rex Parade on Mardi Gras day in New Orleans. Were a dude to be selected for that, then it would be newsworthy.
