My guess is there are US concerns about the Chinese economy and their appetite for treasuries going forward.

Gibbs should go back and watch some of Mike McCurry’s news conferences. He knew how to parry President Clinton’s critics with class and with a smile on his face. So did Ari Fleischer. It is an art to use a stiletto rather than a hatchet.

Both were very good, imo. Snow was in a separate class because of his oversized persona and wit. Dana (ah…) Perino was in a separate class because of her class, intellect, and icy yumminess.

Gibbs is so bad, he has become the news.

What the government should be doing is what they claimed they were going to do from jump, buy the damn bad paper, get it valued and then begin refinancing those who can make payments. Cut the investment banks out of the process it’s not helping anything

How in the hell is the government going to refinance a loan? They would have to have a whole new “department” to handle this processes which would take years to set up. This is the craziest solution I have ever heard.

By the way, most banks have plans in place to help people that are behind on their mortgages. Banks do not want people to default on their mortgages, especially now when you are only getting 50 to 80 cents on the dollar when you sell it as a REO.

Also, the reason that lax underwriting standards were allowed were because of CRA which noone, I mean noone, talks about and has not been addressed in any meaningful way as a problem that needs to be corrected. I get so mad when people say it has to do with not enough regulation, it has to do with bad regulation in place.

Sorry so long but as someone that does this for a living I am sick of people thinking this is an easy fix.
