Video: Fighting the stimulus, after the fact

What if you spent a million dollars a day from the time of the Nativity until now? First, you’d be very, very tired (and very old) — but more importantly, you’d be less profligate than Congress was in just a single day. They spent more money than an immortal Paris Hilton on steroids, as the American Issues Project reminds us in a new video:

Politico somewhat misrepresents this rollout in its coverage and its headline, “Group counters stimulus with Jesus in TV ad”, making it sound like a religious pitch rather than just a historical reference:

After watching liberal allies of President Barack Obama flood the airwaves in support of the stimulus bill, a conservative third-party group is countering with a provocative new commercial using Jesus Christ to emphasize the scale of the $787 billion package.

The American Issues Project, which briefly aired a TV spot in last year’s presidential race, will go up on Friday with a TV spot that marks the dollars spent with the passage of time.

That makes it sound like AIP has created a “What would Jesus do?” spot, which is not at all the case.  There’s nothing provocative in that sense at all about this ad or religious at all.  They could have used Augustus Caesar’s census as a reference point as well, but fewer people would have figured out the timeline.  It shows the Mona Lisa, too; was AIP referencing the Da Vinci Code?

Politico’s Jonathan Martin does score a good point at the very end of the analysis, though:

While the stimulus may have roused an otherwise-moribund Republican Party, conservatives are late to the game. A coalition of liberal groups, led by Americans United for Change, has been airing TV and radio ads on the bill in Washington, D.C., and targeted states for a month in support of the bill.

It seems to me that this is a case of too little, too late.  We can call Congress all we want now, but the vote’s been taken and the bill signed by President Obama.  It will take a new Congress to deauthorize the spending of Porkulus in 2011.  What we need is explicit promises that electing a Republican House and Senate will stop the rest of the money from going out the door.

I am almost burned out on the Republicans myself, but unfortunalty putting them back in office is probably our only real hope for change. It is proably way past time for a massive grassroots Conservitive campaign to find conservitive Republicans and sen them to Washington to replace both the Democrats and the Rinos.

I think it’s apropos for Politico to headline it this way because it emphasizes their own ignorance.

The idea of using the birth of Jesus as a reference point in world history is one that intellectuals have recognized ever since — well, ever since the birth of Jesus.

Todays self-appointed intellectuals are notoriously idiots at math and geography, and their SAT scores are lower than those of previous generations. In short, it’s quite likely the writer literally doesn’t know the birth of Jesus has been considered a meaningful reference point by the serious intellectuals of history.

The rape of our economy goes on and on. If the dims have their way by injecting the stimulus, in 4 years the Republicans will be so weak that we will essentially have one party rule. Saul Alinski, Obama’s mentor, hated the middle class because they were a buffer for the upper class. We must be destroyed in order to get to them. Not much we can do about it when you have an educational system run by a labor union flushing millions of uneducated kids into a system they are dependent on for living. Add amnesty pumping millions more into the system and its almost lights out for the middle class.

And they got into Specter/Collins/Snowe’s heads before we even started jamming their phonelines in protest. No doubt the left is ridiculously organized and wants to win by any means necessary. We see they have no qualms about cheating, breaking laws, changing laws and reinterpreting the constitution if need be. Not a good political foe to have at the end of the day.

Politico is FOS. In fact, I just heard a MSNBC talking head tease with the line (paraphrased), “We’ll tell you how Republicans are using Jesus to oppose the stimulus.”

You may be aware that the PC brigade has developed a PC-way to refer to the B.C. and A.D. periods. In short, they mark Christ’s birth, in effect, as the beginning of “the Common Era,” and, as a result, the B.C. period is referred to as B.C.E. (for “Before the Common Era”), while the A.D. period is referred to as C.E. (for “the Common Era”). I’m not sure when this began being used.

Whatever the case, what other immediately identifiable and easily quantifiable event would be better to use? The fall of the Roman Empire? The Norman Conquest? The signing of the Magna Carta? WTF? Even if the ad makers used the PC term “the Common Era,” do you think anyone would know what period was being discussed? I doubt it.

These critics are f***ing paranoid.

This is a great start – BUT we have to come up with ideas that will
also GROW the economy not just stopping the spending.
Obama is not pro-growth – all of his statements and actions have
been anti-growth. We have to come up with real data – real stories
that counter the democrats. Socialism has not worked and will
not work. There is vast amounts of data to supoort these FACTS.

I love this ad and I hope that it adds to the disgust and general loathing of our corrupt government enough to spur action.

However, calling Congress and telling them to stop wasteful spending will achieve the same result that you would get if you called Congress and told them all to stop breathing. The result: nothing. Our corrupt and disgusting Congress does not care what people think and only cares about wielding their power over you. A great example is the off-shore oil ban being lifted BEFORE the election. That was so that stupid people would vote for them. Now that the election is over this ban will be reimposed because stupid people won’t care.

The irony is this: as Obama and the dems assault the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence – they then have NO legal grounds to tell states what to do. Good God! Republicans/Conservatives STILL don’t get it, do they/you?!? Its already too late, the Democratic PotUS and Congress have already secured the dominance of the Democratic party, there won’t be a revival of conservatism in this country.

– Moving the Census Bureau under White House control = guaranteeing Democratic control of all offices and branches of government in the US.
– Using the FCC to control the airwaves to stifle all dissent or opposing viewpoints through “local content”, “public interest” and “diversity”.
– Increasing dependence on the government for “handouts”.
– Control of the education system for our children.
– Granting amnesty to 12-20 million illegal aliens in exchange for votes.
– Grants to ACORN to insure that any close election is secured by way of voter intimidation, fraud, or other.

It doesn’t matter now, the Democrats have already seized control of this nation and they are locked in. Republicans will not be making a comeback from this election, the mechanisms now in place will prevent it. The “Stimulus” package was the payoff to fund the future dominance of the Democratic party, and its already been passed into law (without a single representative having read it). Its over folks, wake up and smell the ashes.

Too easy…

The first step is to reign in all of that bad debt. Where people didn’t pay a nickle on their mortgages we need to take those houses and sell them to people who will pay. No more give-aways!

Democrats ran Congress for the last 2 years. They were the ones responsible for oversite of Fannie/Freddie. They were asleep at the wheel!

Next, drill here, drill now, and allow more nuclear energy plants. Keep energy prices low and the economy will grow.

Raise taxes when the economy rebounds, not during a recession. Also, rates need to get back to about 6%. TANSTAAFL.

I’d agree, but the “fight” is already over. Now, that is not to say that I will not be a rebel in the coming years. But, I think that our previous society has been broken and there is no longer a way to recover (legitimately) that which was broken/lost.

To believe there is any chance of this happening would require “a willing suspension of dis-belief”.

Even if the GOP wins a super-majority in both houses, not one dollar less would be spent. It would just be re-directed, or re-deployed if you will, to programs more to the liking of conservative voters.

It is the middle class that needs to rise-up and take control. We are the silent majority and for too long have just been so busy making America work that we haven’t paid attention to the turds above and below us that are abusing our hard work and honest efforts. Having written and called my reps often, the only result was to vet my anger. These people no longer listen and provide only lip service. The sad part is they apparently think that we are too stupid to understand what they are doing to this country. I recently received a response to a simple question with a four page reply when a paragraph would have been sufficient. On that one I was assured that TARP1 would have the necessary protections and oversight for our tax dollars. We all know how that has turned out. I think it is time to try and set up a visit to DC by all concerned citizens to drive home our outrage at turning our nation toward Socialism. Where do I sign up???

Tax oil producers coming and going. Tax oil consumers coming and going per gallon and tax per mile and tax per highway, above and beyond tax for being employed IN ADDITION TO income tax.

Here’s a page from The Great State of Texas for example of abuse gone wild.

If TxTag charged a flat $30.00/month fee to use Texas highways without further tolls, I would understand the economic logic for that system, a mutual benefit for state and citizen, though in addition to taxes. BUT it costs over $100./month to daily commute a single 3-mile stretch of TxTag toll highway, not to mention the additional lights and NEWLY DESIGNED no merge dangerous entrances and exits placed upon that same 3-mile stretch of original highway.

You may be aware that the PC brigade has developed a PC-way to refer to the B.C. and A.D. periods. In short, they mark Christ’s birth, in effect, as the beginning of “the Common Era,” and, as a result, the B.C. period is referred to as B.C.E. (for “Before the Common Era”), while the A.D. period is referred to as C.E. (for “the Common Era”). I’m not sure when this began being used.

It started at least 20 years ago. It’s in all the textbooks I’ve ever used since at least that time. I had a history prof in college who would deduct a point anytime you used BC/AD.

I still refuse to use it. I also refuse to use Ms. if I know whether or not the person is married/widowed. Just being stubborn, I know, but I resent it when crap is shoved down my throat. Hmmm. That’s been happening a lot lately…..

You know, we should follow the example of the libs, and when through a bill with all of our interests. Privatize social-security, kill the dept. of education, pbs, etc.

The only way we’re gonna get lasting change is if we wipe them out, and the only way we can do that is by defunding them. The delegitimize them.
They’ve already worked hard to defund us, and now they’re trying to silence and delegitimize us.
Our “Cutuluss” bill will need to cut the federal governement, cut money to liberal institutions like higher-ed, and the arts. Why should federal funds flow to institutions that don’t allow ROTC, and have billions in endowments? It should also work on ending special perqs for unions, and make every state a right to work state.

If we have some balls, all We the People need to do is organize a “We Aren’t Paying Our Mortgage and Credit Cards” website. If only 25% of the credit card holders and 10% of mortgage owners don’t pay, in three months, the FED will be out of business…as will all the banks. Then Congress will have NO CHOICE but to undo their “Stimulus” bill. All it takes are some committed citizens willing to take this to the end. If you have big ones, or care about the country let’s hear if your willing to make the hard decisions.

I saw Clinton (I know you can’t believe a word he says) but he told Greta when she asked him the bill no one read. He said we can always revisit things. I think some Congressman from TX was saying we can “Contract with America” the provisions we don’t like for money unspent in 2010. The jist of both of these is it is not too late to notify congress you don’t like something in the bill and someone should offer to repeal it. It could put pressure on onerous parts or have them taken out so discussing Porkulus is not just acedemic. It could be used to press action or score points politically

Oh Lord, you just reminded me of a class I wish I could forget. Argued for an entire period with a professor who insisted that the frog in “The Frog Prince” actually represents a penis, and the story is really about how the girl is repulsed by male sexual organs because she really doesn’t know/understand them. Eventually she relents and only when she embraces the “frog/penis” does she finally find her prince.

A new Congress in 2010 sounds good, but it will never happen. By 2010 DC will have two Democrat Senators and a Democrat representative, millions of illegal aliens will be given the right to vote Democrat, and felons will be released from prison to vote Democrat. And of course ACORN is already printing up and filling out phoney ballots in the unlikely event that a Republican squeaks through. Wait! We just found this box of ballots in the back room. All for Democrats!

No, sadly, if we want to take back our country, we can’t wait for 2010. By then, it will be, as my grandkids say, All Gone.

Got this email this morning:

At the agreed-upon time, the student showed up at the professor’s house. The professor stated that the weekend project involved his backyard pool.

They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, “First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you can.”

The student did as he was instructed.

The professor then continued, “Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it.”

The student was naturally confused, but did as he was told.

The professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and began walking back to the deep end of the pool.

The confused student asked, “Excuse me, but why are we doing this?”

The professor matter-of-factly stated that he was trying to make the shallow end much deeper.

The student didn’t think the economics professor was serious, but figured that he would find out the real story soon enough.

However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep end, the student began to become worried that his economics professor had gone mad. The student finally replied, “All we’re doing is wasting valuable time and effort on unproductive pursuits. Even worse, when this process is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all you’ll really have accomplished is the appearance of doing something when all we did was the destruction of what could have been truly productive action!”

The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile, “Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill.”

Sadly, maybe we should all stop contributing to charities, since the government is redistributing the wealth. As I see it, there is no longer a need for any of them since the “messiah” is now leading us. Write your charity and tell them to ask the big “O” how much “HE” will provide. Ole Biden won’t be missed if he stops contributing as he did very little. Also, all workers should make sure that they are not using the payroll tax as a savings. All should adjust it to the bare minimum for the state and fed.

That’s a problem, you don’t realize that the war has already ended.

How would you plan to de-nationalize health care now that SCHIP has been passed?

How would you derail the 100s of billions handed out to leftist interests?

How do you get people off of their dependency on government?

How do you remove the in-power party when their constituency can be gerrymandered in such a way that they are locked in and the White House controls the mechanism (Census Bureau) that sets the districts?

How will you educate younger generations (other than your own family members) about the evils of liberalism, the “Climate Change” hoax, and other propaganda promoted by the liberals in all levels of our educational systems?

So much has passed by without our fighting it. So many of our liberties are already in the process of being forfeited. I don’t see how it gets turned around.

And yes, I believe the American people are impotent. The fact that we WILL revisit granting illegal immigrants amnesty is proof of this. No matter how much outcry the American people have about the topic, the people in Washington will only delay what they know is best for us until they can slip it into some bill. We’re living under an oligarchy where our political appointees feel they know what’s best for the people instead of the people being power that allows the politician to vote in their stead.

The country has been turned on its head. Central government has wrested power from the people and the states, just what our founding fathers feared most.
