Rick Santelli is quite the man! CNBC has Rick's back if the MSM and the White House try to take him out. The White House would be wise to avoid a war with CNBC during this time of economic crisis (who knows? - Obama's team keeps making mistake after mistake). I bet the ratings for CNBC have really picked up. I started watching them again after Rick spoke the truth about Obama's redistribution policies. Go Rick!!!

The thing about MSNBC and the target audience they've been chasing for the past five years is not only do they hate George W. Bush, Republicans and conservatives in general, they also hate capitalism.

The thing about CNBC is, it's a business channel, and it's going to fast lose it's viewers and then advertisers if it's ideologically redesigned into a business channel that hates capitalism.

So people like Matthews can rail at people like Santelli, but right now CNBC is the No. 1 business channel, ahead of Fox Business News. If the NBC brass tries to remake CNBC into a business version of the Matthews-Olbermann-Madow-Shuster network, they will lose their ratings and their ad revenue. We'll see in the upcoming weeks how important that is to Jeff Immelt and his underlings.

Note how Matthews and his ilk conveniently ignore the fact much of this was brought about by the housing/credit crisis with minimal congressional oversight of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac despite protest from GOP lawmakers in 2004.

Whatever Chris. You're a shill and a wimp.

Sure looked like "Chrissy" was at a loss for words during the exchange. He should have to remind his "limited" audience all the time about the "tingling he feels for the big O" so they all know how objective he is with his comments. Physically unable to attend the TEA PARTY but I will contribute any way I can. Just hope that it catches on real good and the numbers multiply geometrically. Rick, the best performance on TV I have ever seen. Finally, someone telling it like it is.

"As for the second clip, I figure Santelli’s about three days away from a full-blown Howard Beale meltdown at this point. The more attention he gets, the more irascible he becomes, so let’s keep giving it to him."

WTF? The guy is doing a important job. I hope he calms down and doesn't lose it.

"And I’d like to be able to help honest homeowners who are in trouble and I understand that there are many people who are in that situation" -tartan on February 21, 2009 at 2:21 PM

Thanks, I'm not looking for help, I'm just angry. I'll get myself out of this somehow. I'm aggravated at being guilty-by-association.

"Remember after 9/11 and the Prez said go shopping?
Bingo! That along with tax cuts IS what got us out of the Dot com recession and prevented a 9/11 depression"

"“I want them to get the fishmarket to hire me”

You want the government to “force” a privet fish market to hire you, regardless if anyone is actually buying fish?
DSchoen on February 21, 2009 at 3:11 PM

Yes, but the stock market only fell about 500 points then. I suppose I should have said, "I don't know how the *government* can stimulate the economy."

No, I wasn't think of government coercion so much as government encouragement. Tax breaks for new hires, for example. Low-interest, government-backed small business loans for startups who qualify financially.

Yeah, I went shopping, which helped us get out of the last two recessions, and apparently increased the level of individual debt in the country.

"Chrissy", what a worthless jerk to put it mildly. He should dress up in a cheerleader outfit instead of a suit. If I was M Obama I would make sure that "Chrissy" doesn't get too close to BO since he excites him so much and they are now on a first name basis.

Lastly, Chris’ use of the Prodigal Son bothered me to no end. The father in the parable was dispensing HIS OWN charity toward his son. He did not go to his neighbors and demand THEY pay for the party (and then crow about his compassion as if he’d paid for it).
jeanneb on February 21, 2009 at 7:27 AM

During the campiagn Obama used the bibilical "I am my brother's keeper"

Well I am sure many of us would disagree with this and the trap is we don't consider everyone in the country, over who we don't by law have any control, as someone that is entitled to our unconditional charity and love.

The idea that complete strangers whom we never met are in the same category as a son whom we have raised and so take some responsibility for their future is a terrible comparison but convienant for liberals.

The debate is where does your personal responsiblity end and society's charity begin?

Can you say Moral Hazard?

When Chris asked Santelli who he voted for he should have responded with "Who did you vote for?" Then Chris further tried to descredit him by lumping him in with Rush and Hannity. This guy really is a tool. If you are going to be interviewed by Matthews and you are not a leftist hack, you really need to come prepared and fight back with truth and conviction.

“I don’t know how to stimulate the economy”

Uhm, buy spending money? Ya know that thing the Dems ridiculed Bush about for the last 2 years..

Remember after 9/11 and the Prez said go shopping?
Bingo! That along with tax cuts IS what got us out of the Dot com recession and prevented a 9/11 depression.

You want the government to “force” a privet fish market to hire you, regardless if anyone is actually buying fish?

Uhm, buy spending money? Ya know that thing the Dems ridiculed Bush about for the last 2 years..

Remember after 9/11 and the Prez said go shopping?
Bingo! That along with tax cuts IS what got us out of the Dot com recession and prevented a 9/11 depression.
I'm sorry to read about your situation. And I'd like to be able to help honest homeowners who are in trouble and I understand that there are many people who are in that situation. I just don't think government spending is going to solve the problem, and it could create new ones for the economy.
I do think your attitude is a healthy one, regarding enabling the fishmarket to hire you. I hope things work out for you soon.

What was Matthews point about who he voted for?

Did people who voted FOR Obama get some “Special Memo” with real details the rest of us haven’t gotten?

In 2006, with a household income of about $35k a year, I bought my first house at the age of 44, for about $104k. It was a 50-year-old house, about 2k sq ft. Monthly payments are about $850. The interest rate was about 6.125% IIRC.
The 16th of this month, I missed a payment for the first time.
Last year, when the company I worked for (as a delivery dispatcher) went out of business (partly thanks to gas prices), my household income dropped to $14k a year.
It doesn't matter if they give me a lower interest rate. The problem isn't what I was paying in interest, it's my lack of income. If/when I get a job paying what my old job paid, I'll be able to afford the payments I was making before.

Am I a bad person or a deadbeat because I wanted a house in my middle age? Am I a bad person or a deadbeat because I didn't anticipate my employer making bad decisions, or the price of gas tripling in a matter of months? I hold a definite responsibility for my current situation, I've made some bad decisions, but I don't believe buying a home was one of them.

I feel bad about missing that payment. But what isn't being said in all of this is that a lot of those 'deadbeats' people complain about didn't buy the home as I did, to live in. They bought it to "flip it", and make a profit on the rising market. That's where I would bet the vast majority of these 'toxic assets' are coming from.

I'm in a tight spot right now, with any opportunity to climb out of it dwindling by the day. But, if I ever do make it back out, I'm determined to stick it to anyone who lumps me with those house flippers.

I'm angered at being identified as a bad person because I had the gall to pursue the American dream.

I don't know how to stimulate the economy. But I do know that what is needed is to get companies *hiring* people again. I don't want the government to hand me a fish, I want them to get the fishmarket to hire me.

I apologize for my rant.

I'm thinking we on the conservative side need to start using the same playbook.

Charity with other people's money is the "In" thing with the "O" crowd and the rest of us are not cool. Our job is to earn the money. Assholes get to spend it.
