Ramirez on “shovel-ready”

posted at 12:20 pm on February 20, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

I really have nothing at all to add to this description of Porkulus by the great Michael Ramirez of Investors Business Daily.  Ramirez latches onto the phrase “shovel-ready”, used to describe the supposed status of the years-long projects in the stimulus package, and makes clear its real definition:

Unfortunately, this will prove more and more prescient as the years — and the debt — roll forward.

Ramirez has a terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives a fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.

This along with Huckabee’s explanation of the stimulus package should get some kind of Pulitzer Prize or something.

The United States is “investing” in increasingly worthless paper, insolvent banks, crony capitalist ponzi schemes and non-productive consumption.

China, on the other hand, is securing long term supplies of oil and other commodities at favorable prices for years to come.

Sergeant Tim on February 20, 2009 at 12:42 PM

Ramirez is the greatest master of the pen.

Maybe the liberals are channeling Reagan.

: : An excerpt from “How Ronald Reagan Changed My Life” by Peter Robinson

: : Chapter One
: : The Pony In the Dung Heap
: : When Life Buries You, Dig
: : Journal Entry, June 2002:

: : Over lunch today I asked Ed Meese about one of Reagan’s favorite jokes. “The pony joke?” Meese replied. “Sure I remember it. If I heard him tell it once, I heard him tell it a thousand times.”

: : The joke concerns twin boys of five or six. Worried that the boys had developed extreme personalities — one was a total pessimist, the other a total optimist — their parents took them to a psychiatrist.

: : First the psychiatrist treated the pessimist. Trying to brighten his outlook, the psychiatrist took him to a room piled to the ceiling with brand-new toys. But instead of yelping with delight, the little boy burst into tears. “What’s the matter?” the psychiatrist asked, baffled. “Don’t you want to play with any of the toys?” “Yes,” the little boy bawled, “but if I did I’d only break them.”

: : Next the psychiatrist treated the optimist. Trying to dampen his out look, the psychiatrist took him to a room piled to the ceiling with horse manure. But instead of wrinkling his nose in disgust, the optimist emitted just the yelp of delight the psychiatrist had been hoping to hear from his brother, the pessimist. Then he clambered to the top of the pile, dropped to his knees, and began gleefully digging out scoop after scoop with his bare hands. “What do you think you’re doing?” the psychiatrist asked, just as baffled by the optimist as he had been by the pessimist. “With all this manure,” the little boy replied, beaming, “there must be a pony in here somewhere!”

: : “Reagan told the joke so often,” Meese said, chuckling, “that it got to be kind of a joke with the rest of us. Whenever something would go wrong, somebody on the staff would be sure to say, “There must be a pony in here somewhere.’”

Entelechy on February 20, 2009 at 12:42 PM

God bless Michael Ramirez!
I have a short list of political cartoons that I haven’t taken the time to draw, one of them is a huge swine (Porkulus) with several people poking at it’s lower belly with sticks, trying to find it’s ‘member’ which is buried by the fat that hangs to the floor. The caption is: “Where’s the Stimulus?”
I’m sure Ramirez could render it masterfully.

Christine on February 20, 2009 at 12:57 PM

Allah and Ed,

If he was the Messiah, than why hasn’t the stock market rebounded in the positive direction? In fact since his anointment, it has fallen swifter onto depression consideration.

Will there be any solvet companies out there to take advantage of the heaping stimulous pile?
