Bibi gets the nod

Despite coming in slightly behind Kadima and Tzipi Livni in the Knesset, Benjamin Netanyahu has been granted first shot at forming a government in Israel. The former Prime Minister, known for his hard-line approach, says he’ll try first for a national-unity government with Kadima. Livni may make that difficult:
Israeli President Shimon Peres invited Benjamin Netanyahu to form the next government.
After hearing from Peres Friday, Netanyahu, who leads the Likud Party, immediately invited Tzipi Livni, the leader of the Kadima Party, and Ehud Barak, the leader of the Labor Party, to form a national unity government.
Kadima got one more Knesset seat than Likud, but had a much more difficult path to forming a majority coalition. It won’t be easy for Bibi, either; he faces conflicting policy issues within the conservative sphere that could easily fracture partnerships at the inception of his government. He would much rather move to the center and rely on Kadima and Labor if just for the stability that such a partnership would provide.
For their part, Livni and Barack have strongly suggested that they’d rather oppose Netanyahu than join him. Livni refused to consider Netanyahu for the top spot in a coalition before, infamously jotting down that thought on a note that got spotted by television cameras in a Cabinet meeting. They recall Netanyahu’s strong rightward governance in his previous term and want nothing to do with it, although Netanyahu himself says that he would govern closer to the center if given another chance.
Does Peres’ pick send a message to the Obama administration? The White House did a poor job of keeping their preference a secret, pushing Livni through a number of leaks since the Israeli elections. Livni had participated in the Annapolis talks and was seen as much closer to Obama on the issue of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. The selection of Netanyahu may be a reply that tells Obama to keep his nose out of Israeli internal politics.

Bibi 2.0: This time he’s madder and Jew-ier…..
/sarc
Seriously, though, the right man has the job. He’s the only modern leader of the Jewish state that can make the mullahs shiite in their burqas.

At least ONE country is going in the right direction!

LOL! I alternate between “Container gardening for the Southern Cottage gardener” and whacking mutants in Fallout 3. The sight of the post-nuclear holocaust Washington DC area is quite breathtaking, if your graphics card can handle it.And my paperwhites have just finished flowering.

Sorry to go off topic…Am just pining for Spring.
How I envy you your paperwhites. All mine here in the Northeast are still sleeping soundly under a blanket of snow. Not even a snow drop yet.

ah well, you’ve still got them to look forward to. Keep warm now :)

Peres had no choice. The left only got 55 seats, and 11 of those were arab parties. Trust me, if Livni had any chance, at all, of building a government, Peres would have given her the shot, first.
It was the Israeli public that was voting for their own survival, with nothing about any messages to anyone in Washington.

The average Israeli proves himself wiser than that of his American counterpart by voting for a leader that will put the security of their nation before all else.
Mazal-tov!

I have my Atlas Shrugged 35th Anniversary edition waiting for me now. Next on my list. I’ll be reading it from my compound in Idaho, after escapaing Los Angeles – (fantasy – have the compound, but haven’t escaped LA yet)

Very Glad that Bibi gets the nod. It is a critical time for Israel. I don’t think he’s going to pussyfoot around. the least of his worries is going to be keeping a political coalition.
The amount of Fire and Brimstone that needs to happen quickly will keep all the politics in the back seat until they are done. After that, he will be happy to let the next PM do what they will, after he saves the Nation of Israel from destruction.

I think the Israeli’s recognize Obama for what he is: the first president in generations who will turn his back on them. No small wonder they kept at Hamas in Gaza right up until The One’s
coronationinauguration day.Hey–great idea–let’s have NYU invite Bibi to speak to the wayward brats who barricaded themselves into the school cafeteria with their list of “demands.” Now THAT’s entertainment!

I’m interested in growing some fresh herbs and starting a garden…kind of like a Victory Garden…uh..
I also have been indulging in the odd reality tv program and other sick shows like “Gossip Girl.”
I’m telling you, this election has done all sorts of crazy things to my mind.

I have heard Bibi and have found him to be a very good orator and a great leader. I agree with Dr.Cwac.Cwac – he is the man for the job.

I can finally sleep in peace knowing that Israel is in good hands. Throw the damn turncoat Arabs out on their ass. How dare they wave the Palestinian flag on Israeli soil and call for its death. I hope Avigdor gets his way with the pledge or get the FFFF out!!
Lets Go Israel, Lets Go!!
