ACORN “reclaims” foreclosed home for evicted owner: “This is our house now”

posted at 7:50 pm on February 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

Ah, but it isn’t. The bank’s already resold it, as you’ll shortly see, which makes this publicity stunt worse than useless. Not only will the evictee be back on the street shortly, not only will ACORN be sweating criminal charges, but the moral case they’re trying to make to the public is a tough sell now that it’s known they’re breaking into a person’s home instead of a bank’s. And of course it puts The One on the spot, because as clips like this circulate he’ll eventually be asked about it and will be forced to condemn the practice, however tepidly. But other than that, it’s a PR bonanza. Click the image to watch.

Do you feel comfortable moving in? Let’s say the local sheriff presses charges against the perps. The perps know where you live now? Still feel like moving in? This is a crime. The perpetrators are on tape. Their known whereabouts is roughly known through their organization. Seems easy. Watch it disappear. Just like Barry’s aunt. That is exactly how Union organizers and leftists think!

Break ACORN’s nuts with a Giuliani-style RICO investigation. Never happen with this administration.

J.J. Sefton on February 20, 2009 at 8:35 PM

How come US conservatives don’t get off their duff and come out with their own activists groups like ACORN? In a democracy, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It’s always been like that and always will be. He who does the squeaking get his way. People, government, politicians, corporations, will all pay you to stop bothering them. That is how it works. Cynical but true.

Minorities, women, students, teh ghey, even the retired, have been very good at organized squeaking. That’s why they win. Yes, it was made possible by the fact that those groups drew their foot soldiers from the unemployed, and therefore, readily available, but the lesson can not be ignored. Either become politically active or your ideological adversaries will be your political masters in short time.

It’s just a sociological version of adaption, and survival of the fittest. Change and become active and fight or you, and what you consider to be your culture and way of life, and your values, will disappear. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Nor was it destroyed in a day. It decayed until it collapses. Remember it took the States about 90 years to establish itself. It takes another 90 years to decay back into the mud. The decay cycle started with FDR and the New Deal in the early ’30s. So do the math.

Warning to ACORN

Matthew Festa, a South Texas College of Law property law professor, said it is illegal to resist a court-ordered eviction.

“If ACORN or the tenants refuse to vacate based on a lawful order, we’re getting into a criminal trespass or some kind of contempt charge,” Festa said. “They would be in the wrong in the eyes of the law.”

Donna Hawkins, a Harris County assistant district attorney, said it is a class B misdemeanor to interfere with the lawful duty of a peace officer, a charge that has a range of punishment of up to six months in jail and a fine up to $2,000.

Michael Butler, chief deputy for Precinct 1 Constable Jack Abercia, said people can be arrested for interfering with a court order, engaging in a sit-in or stopping movers or deputies.

“They are perfectly within their rights to protest people losing their homes,” Butler said. “And, basically, in this economy, we truly understand what the country is going through and we are sensitive to what they are feeling,” Butler said. “But if we have a court order to be there, then we have to carry out that order.”

According to this story, Donna Hanks is an ACORN leader.

You ought to read the story on her. She bought the house outright in 2001 with cash from the sale of her other home and then over the last 7 years refinanced it, up the last one, borrowing $250,000 on it. Then she couldn’t pay the loan back.

Good ol’ Donna, supposedly with a $2,100 monthly income, took out a mortgage with $1,600 monthly interest payments and couldn’t pay it back when it jumped to $1,900/month.

All this because she got a flyer in the mail from Wells Fargo that was probably addressed to Resident. Stupidity this great should be a crime.

It wasn’t an argument and I wasn’t disputing what you said just supplying a reason. I’m certainly not saying that your position is wrong, matter of fact I pretty much agree with you. I’m also not defending those conservatives who ignore political reality and use working hard as an excuse to be uninvolved. When I hear “Oh I’m not into politics” I want to scream. But the sad fact is that people who actually work cannot spend as much time at “Organizing” as the parasites that Acorn recruits.
