Nothing in there about beheading your wife being ok? Weird.

jrab01 on February 19, 2009 at 10:22 PM

You've obviously misinterpreted the Koran, Quaran, Kuaran, Korn, or something.
Those beheadings were an unfortunate result of your wife being beaten about the head and shoulders with a very sharp bladed implement.
That's all.
Clear now?

Thank you for that. Botros sounds like a guy who's making a lot of media waves. Here's a bit on his technique:
When Al Jazeera began broadcasting about a decade ago as the only independent channel in the Middle East, the Qatar-based news station opened a door to the free flow of information no Arab dictator could close. Until about 2000, state-sponsored news broadcasts and censorship were the norm (satellite dishes remain illegal in Iran, and were banned until the early 2000s in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, and elsewhere). As more Arabs could own televisions and the programming grew, all it took to outsmart the censors was a tuner and a set.

What followed was a burst of Arabic-language programming. Islamic teachers of every type leapt to the airwaves, hoping to expand the teaching of the mosque-once reserved for Friday prayer services and male-only audiences-to 24/7 preaching and propaganda piped directly into the Muslim living room. Botros is turning their campaign on its head.

By culling from what’s now a bloated archive of televised remarks from the Islamic world’s leading sheikhs and imams, he has found a potent way to expose the war within Islam, including raging debates between reformers and traditionalists, and to force Muslims who for generations took its teaching at face value to examine it at its roots.

If I get that right, he culls his material from the same airwaves he occupies. Cool.

Whenever I've tried to ask about a copy of the Qu'ran to read, I'm always told by a Muslim that no English translation will suffice. I have to learn Arabic to truly get the meaning of the words.

You know, I've often thought that learning Hebrew would make studying the Bible easier - to get the root of the meanings, and I am sure it does.

But if you cannot translate something and get across the meaning of the message - then there is probably something wrong with the message.

I tried about four versions of the Qu'ran and found them to be just about the same. There is a lot of hate and anger in that thing.

1) islam is not a religion, it's a political ideology with an attendant mythology.

2) Your statement is as moronic as it gets.

Those in themselves are rather humorous positions to take, however unfunny. I guess jocularity only goes so far.
