Video: California legislator who voted for tax hike rips … tax hikes

posted at 8:40 pm on February 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Patterico, behold the “Republican” who made California’s $13 billion tax increase possible. Skip ahead to 1:15 and then 4:40.

Clearly, we need this man in the U.S. Senate.

Maybe he was given some, uh, shall we say incentive to vote for the increase?

Clearly what this man needs is an enema.

It’s worse than that, he held out for OPEN PRIMARIES in CA. You know who that benefits?

We need someone in the Senate who says one thing and does another? Don’t we already have enough?

I live in Fresno, and I’m asking that the Central Valley of California become its own state, please. Sure it’s not as pretty as Monterey or Santa Barbara, but man, I’m betting we’d be way better off.

California will tax and regulate itself out of existence. Didn’t they learn anything from the Brownout Davis years?

You know…..

I give Sen. Maldonado some credit…….

This state has been run into the absolute ground by the Liberal Democrats, Teacher, Labor, and Public Unions that have been calling the shots for over twenty years.

……. ever notice how they are never to blame, even though they are in control and have caused the problem in the first place?

No stories on “WHY” we are over budget, what the State is spending all it’s money on, how illegal aliens have effectively destroyed our economy, the social engineering projects that grow in bureaucracy and budget every year that just can’t be cut or eliminated, how the politically correct environmentalist have destroyed our energy production capability to fund ourselves and caused a man made drought over a fish found all over the world.

No………….. no stories of the true nightmare California has become, and thanks to Mr. Teleprompter, the rest of the Nation will soon follow.

Just dump all over Sen. Maldonado to shift the story, as he held out and tried to make a stand, with the Governator, the Media, the Unions, TV and Radio ads……… “for the children”.

I live in this God forsaken state and have seen what it once was and what it has become……….

………. the fact that he held out as long as he did and actually got something for it, should not be taken lightly.

Well, given how the new Obamanomics work…they’ll actually tax and spend the entire country out of existence first. Take a guess how many federal dollars will be sent into that money sinkhole before we all go under…the answer is: as much as necessary.

After years of masking the reality of the economic situation in the US, now, there is nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide. All the King’s horses and all the King’s men cannot put the bubble back together again. In years past, an out of context jam was enough to turn the tide of a market selloff. Now, the propping is just a bump in the road – the road to nowhere.

The irony, the fastest way to end the misery – would be to put this bust out of its misery. People and organizations that deserve to fail, should be allowed to fail. Instead, the Fed, the treasury, congress, the prez and TPTB desperately try to hold back the flood of collapsing debt obligations – by sticking fingers in a leaky dyke at random. What needs to unfold – the vetting – is going to happen irrespective of the wants and desires of our ‘leaders.’ And, the same people who have caused this fiasco are now convinced that only they can fix the problem – please. The US is great despite its government – not because of it. And, it would certainly be refreshing if our government were honest with us – for once.

Mark1971 on February 19, 2009 at 9:15 PM

Maybe……… but you did not comment on the bigger picture.

They are sending out IOU’s for our tax rebates here……

……… do you know how easy it is to pay your bills with an IOU from the State Government?

This State is soooooooooooooo fu$ked up, it’s beyond belief, but you don’t see that in our free and independent press.

This was the first time, in a long time, that the Republicans in the State Legislature held out as long as they did………….

………. after getting screwed for so long,

This feels like I was kissed and given a reach around.

Seven Percent Solution on February 19, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Ok, the fight for THIS budget is over. Come July (the beginning of the CA fiscal year), we’ll be back in the same predicament. Deeper in debt. People and businesses moving out of the state. More people on welfare (thanks to the Porkulus incentives). More people and interest groups screaming that they need more of the public’s money.

Revolt, recall, repeal.

John and Ken had the Prop. 13 guy on – they’re going to join forces to repeal a good chunk of the taxes. There’s vote in CA on May 19 and it’s supposed to be on the ballot.

John and Ken are getting numerous calls and e-mails from Reagan Democrats in Cali. We helped Arnold in, we’ll help him out. We must take the state and the country back.

No no not at all… I live in this state too. If he would have held out they would have been forced back to the table and then more of this ridiculous spending would have been cut…Also he cut the gas tax which is a consumption tax that everyone would have paid including illegal aliens…instead we got an income tax hike which will only affect those of us deemed rich enough to pay taxes! My husband and I have already gotten a plan together to be out of here within 10 years…Hope to God we last that long…

Look how the NYT destort the news and belittle John and Ken, who’re trying to save the taxpayers from being raped, regardless of politics.

This, the NYT considers reporting.

It’s more like anthropologists descending down from their towers to report on the monkeys shouting at the government in California.

This is considered objective reporting? The condescention is breathstopping.

They have a completely different mind set and since this is so much better than what they had from where they came, they will keep Democrats in as long as Dems rob us hardworking Americans to give them benefits they don’t pay for or deserve in exchange for thee votes that keep them in power!

I live here in the L.A. area and I wouldn’t take what John and Ken say with any semblance of the truth. They are both shock jocks who care more about their own financial status than that of the people of California!

They could care less about California. They’re screaming because it will cut into their paychecks not because it’s a worthy cause.

I would prefer someone else take up the gauntlet of our cause, I have no use for those two.

Agreed…………

……… but look what happened after we ousted Gray Davis.

The Governator thought he had a mandate, and placed initiatives on the ballot to fix the problem, Conservative initiatives,

……… only to have the collective Unions across the country throw half a Billion dollars into a propaganda battle against him.

Result………… the sheeple voted against the initiatives, the Governator turned left, and we are worse now than we were then.

The basic problem is that our tax dollars are providing funding for the political machine of the left, and it is matched with union funds from across the country, if their members agree or not, they don’t have a choice………

We can vote our bad guys out……….

……….. and they will buy the votes to get their worse guys in.

I hate the fact that the liberals in L.A. and S.F. are able to muck elections for the rest of us.

eaglescout1998 on February 20, 2009 at 2:41 AM

Sen. Maldonado represents a Democratic district. It is to the dumb miscalculation of then Dem. Sen. President Perata to leave him unopposed in 2008. It will be the GOP’s dumb miscalculation to recall him because the seat, which includes Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties (Pete Stark territory), will fall to a Democrat. So we get another far far far more liberal person in the Senate that would vote for all tax hikes and spending hikes.

The person who should be recalled is the Orange County Dem Sen. Lou Correa. He won in 2006 by 400-something votes. What’s worse he signed a pledge not to increase taxes. He’s toast if we recall him. There’s also Ducheny (SD), and Florez (Central Valley) who are in marginal districts.

I live in Fresno, and I’m asking that the Central Valley of California become its own state, please.

All cities are Blue including Fresno! Too many Fresnoians(?) are as clueless as anyone in the Bay Area. How many days have you been allowed to light your fireplace this winter? They started in 2003 and have ratcheted up the restrictions every year. This winter according to an interview I heard on your local radio while in Elk Grove the woman heading the effort expects the ban days to jump 60% from last year. Your pollution dept. is bragging that Freson is leading the way for all cities in the country to adopt these same Nanny State policies.

There are some truly conservative cities in America but Fresno isn’t one of them. Watching the Central Valley slide into the PC/Green pit confirms that we’re in deep sh*t. California’s a lost cause.

We’ve got the land bought and two of our family’s households will be building elsewhere by next spring, God willing. We’ll be joining three other family households that were smart enough to get out over the last decade.
