Oh my: DeMint will try to force vote next week on the Fairness Doctrine
posted at 9:12 pm on February 19, 2009 by Allahpundit
Doubtless it’ll be voted down, but it’s a perfect excuse for talk radio to raise the alarm bells and prime the public for the real battle to come — especially so soon on the heels of The One’s opposition to the Doctrine. Smart politics.
Sen. Jim DeMint announced that he will force a vote next week on a bill that prevents the Federal Communications Commission from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.
The South Carolina Republican’s bill, the Broadcaster Freedom Act, is cosponsored by John Thune, R-S.D., and 27 others and will be offered as an amendment to the D.C. Voting Rights bill…
Sen. DeMint stated: “I’m glad President Obama finally confirmed his opposition to the Fairness Doctrine, which attacks the right of free speech on talk radio, but many Democrats in Congress are still pushing it.
“With the support of the new administration, now is the time for Congress to take a stand against this kind of censorship. I intend to seek a vote on this amendment next week so every senator is on record: Do you support free speech or do you want to silence voices you disagree with?”
If you want to say thanks, here’s your chance. Better yet, use the opportunity to urge him to make sure “localism” is covered in his amendment. The Democrats aren’t stupid; when they try to reinstate Fairness, it won’t be called Fairness. Raising public awareness means, first and foremost, calling attention to the backdoor means of reintroducing the doctrine. If it’s done, it’ll be done by stealth, not by The One ramming it down our throats.

Thanks for the link to the email. Made it easy for me to send my thanks and admiration for being quick on the draw on this. We have to hold their feet to the fire and press them….we can’t sit back and run a prevent defense and just let the country go to hell.

Sent him one too.

All it would take for this to escalate to “Civil Unrest” is for Dear Leader proven to be Illegitimate for the Office. The Financial sector is already to rock and roll and the people are cheering open acts of disparagement on national TV, not a very good sign. If he were seen as unfit, this would boil over. Impeachment would follow shortly after. Democrats would NOT impeach him and that would be the spark that would set fire to this Nation.
See you on the Mall.
Remember, we want a Constitutional Republic, circa 1900′s.

In Aikido, you use the opponents own attacking force to defeat him through speed and grace*. 27 cosponsors in one week and legislation blending with the Presidents own comments…
That was fast.
*Grace is as close as I can get in English. It is the channeling of Ki, the blending with, and effortless redirection of, the attacking force that causes your opponent to defeat himself.

Why hasn’t DeMint run for President yet? Did he and I missed it?
The dude is clearly savvy and supports all the right stuff. He even looks presidential.

Support for DeMint is of absolute paramount importance.
Thanks for the link.
The “Fairness Doctrine” is un-Constitutional. DeMint has reason to fight it in Congress and in the Courts.
Either Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press apply across the media or not at all. To limit freedom of the press Constitutional privileged right to an archaic paper-press is pernicious, as when the paper-press is obsolete, so is that Constitutional Right.
Summum ius, summa iniuria.
Perverting the highest law is the greatest injustice.

No, but they think everyone else is. They continuously try to insult the intelligence of the American people by coming up with politically correct and fancy names for the same old policy.
Note to the Dems: You can’t polish a turd.

And, he did not support the porkulus bill, he must be on the side of Americans that still want a free nation.

No … I think they aren’t stupid, and they aren’t assuming we are stupid.
They think we are either being ignorant or actively evil.
The rank and file really believe in this crap. They are insane by the normal definition … doing the same things over and over again and expecting the result to change.
The adult Dem leadership fall into two categories … the ones who believe … and the truly evil. The latter are the ones who think we are as stupid as the Democrat rank and file.

Sorry … really need an edit function …
The vast majority of the Dems, including the leadership, actually believe their own propaganda.

I too just sent Senator DeMint a note of thanks. I encourage all to do so as well.

With Jim DeMint and Mark Sanford, I think I might move to South Carolina! CA is a hell hole now.

This needs explication.
Is it that only 29% of Republicans know who Boehner is, and 36% of Republicans haven’t a clue and assume Boehner is just another Washingtonian?
Were the Republicans Rasmussen polled mostly from Maine or Philadelphia?

I just had to say I think this is an exceptional analogy for what’s going on here.
I think this is a brilliant move on DeMint’s behalf, and if they don’t make him Senate Minority Leader ASAP it’ll only prolong the period before he can be the Senate Majority leader.
galenrox on February 21, 2009 at 6:04 PM
They’ll just get around it through the back door.
Dr. ZhivBlago on February 21, 2009 at 10:19 PM
Hmmm…I think DeMint (God bless him) is smart enough to use language covering anything that would limit free speech. Localism, schmocalism, whatevea…force the vote already; turn this thing around!
Christine on February 22, 2009 at 12:04 AM
And HURRAY for Shelby…another member of Congress that knows the TRUTH and has the stones to tell it.
Who needs the MSM when we have Hotair carrying water for Obama?
