Video: The disgraceful yet hypnotic Alabama high school basketbrawl
posted at 9:32 pm on February 18, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m momentarily burned out on politics so you have to suffer with me. Players, fans, kids, adults, men, women, on the court, and in the stands: Everyone’s in on the action in this one. Probably the most insane melee I’ve ever seen at a sporting event — but then, I’m not a fan of English soccer. Eleven people have already been arrested on charges from assault to inciting a riot; trust me when I tell you that when you’re done watching, your only question will be, “Only 11?” Exit question: What’s the precise opposite of this clip in terms of sportsmanship? Exit answer: This.

We all have our favorite posters so of course I would notice. I avoid the Gov. Palin threads also. I am pretty sure everything has been said on both sides. There are so many intelligent and funny posters here it is hard to stay away. I stayed up late last night, trying to sort out the new folks. I am not going to do that tonight.

In Houston, Texas when there is a school football or basketball game, fans from each school have got to sit on separate sides. By the way, that type of situation in the video, would not be tolerated, even a little.
Johan Klaus on February 18, 2009 at 11:52 PM
Oh okay. A fight erupted between two rival gangs at a local high school basketball game and shots were fired. Some were injured. Both gangs were members of local black gangs. Will that work?

Thats how at least gang members fight. They cannot stand the humiliation of losing a fight toe-to-toe. That is why so many homicides occur after the clubs close. Remember: CRIP means Cowards Run In Packs.

My children, 20 & 24 were never involved in a brawl. Ever. Their dad and I worked hard to make sure they studdied, were polite, respectful of others, and never took themselves too serious. Punishment was of course amptly available for any rules broken. My husband & I set the standards, followed them ourselves & Ta Da…we have 2 wonderful adult kids!

No no no, you said “and when the camera from the news panned everyone in attendance, all I saw was…” which means you deciphered that the crowd was full of gang-bangers from a camera-pan across the bleachers?
What do gang members look like these days?
Bishop on February 19, 2009 at 12:08 AM
Community organizing at it finest! At least they all got gas in their cars and mortgage payments paid.
csdeven on February 19, 2009 at 12:10 AM
Bishop on February 19, 2009 at 12:08 AM
No no, not at all. The crowd was overwhemingly black. The gangs in question were black gangs. “Which means”, that since the gang members were black, and the crowd was an inner-city crowd overwhemingly populated by blacks that the fight and subsequent shootout made it indistinguishable for the majority of people watching the footage. So…something or someone has to say something or stand for something.
FlyoverJ-HawkFan on February 19, 2009 at 12:14 AM
I’m guessing you’ve read the comments in this thread. Disagree with liberal welfare policies all you want, but something tells me your ideological peers in this topic don’t have the best interests of the black community at heart either. If they do they sure have a funny way of showing it. The rawest most unvarnished bigotry always comes from the right.
crr6 on February 19, 2009 at 12:17 AM
If you look at the video carefully, most of the people remain seated in the stands. So quite a few people had self control.

It’s a simple question and you should be able to provide a simple answer since you claimed “all I saw was….you guessed it.”
What was I supposed to guess and see when I hear of a shooting at a basketball game?

Okay, maybe I should give you a little background. Cop for ten years in Wichita during the most violent time for inner city gang violence in it’s history. Saw and witnessed the most violent assaults and murders and of course observed the aftermath. Sorry that I touched a nerve, but I have been conditioned through my experiences that if there is a mass shooting or disturbance at a public event, then my gang member radar goes up first, then my young black male radar goes up second. It is unfortunate but true.

With all of the bs we’ve all become accustomed to with professional sports…The fights, the drugs, the rape and general thuggishness…you never hear that many bad things about the NHL?? Why do you suppose that is???

I’m talking about mass disturbances and riots. I will gladly admit that mass shootings are for the most part caused by white people and with Va Tech an Asian guy. I just wish you would get your head out of the sand and admit the obvious. I know you want to but you have this politically correct mode of thinking that if you criticize blacks then that is not cool. Well I am not afraid of criticizing blacks. In fact I think I am allowed to criticize any Americans if they screw up. I also criticized postal workers in the 80′s and early 90′s due to their penchant for wanting to shoot their colleagues and they were mostly if not all white. This is why we are where we’re at. We need to ALL stand up and let everyone know when there is a problem instead of either being afraid to or waiting for a black leader to take command and stop all this nonsense.

You got me wrong, in fact you have this entire debate between us wrong. I fully support your right to criticize whomever you desire, fire away with abandon, just don’t expect everyone else to come along for the ride.
Don’t beat around the bush with lame “the camera panned and what did I see….” as if I’m supposed to fill in the blanks with whatever image is running through your head.
You said you’re not afraid of criticizing blacks, then be an un-politically correct American man and say what you mean. Don’t beat around the bush, say it. “the camera panned around the room and what did I see….a bunch of black people.” THAT’S what you wanted to say, right?
Bishop on February 19, 2009 at 1:05 AM
Well, I guess I didn’t put my question in the right perspective. I was referring more to the off field/court behavior….hence the DRUG/RAPE/THUGGISH thing.
Why would a group of people that get paid a gozillion dollars to play a game act like spoiled rotten douche bags??
My first thought was what most of you, whether you’ll admit it or not, was that there aren’t a whole lot of black folks in the NHL. But then I had an epiphany…The majority of the players aren’t American.
BigWyo on February 19, 2009 at 1:05 AM
Unlike the subtle, nuanced bigotry of the left which manifests itself in government programs designed to keep minorities poor, uneducated, separatist and beholden to the Democratic Party.
Of course, it’s not always so subtle…ever seen any of the Left’s attacks on Clarance Thomas or Condaleeza Rice? Raw, unvarnished and hateful, to say the least.

When people are getting killed at sporting events and trampled at Wal Marts you shouldn’t bet the farm, but you shouldn’t be surprised when the culprits happen to be black. The jails are 60% full with blacks and they only comprise 13% of the population.
Hey don’t worry, I already have it written on the back of my hand: Expect a criminal act to have been committed by a black person 6 out of 10 times.

Why should black people as a (collective) care whether some random folks posting on a blog have their best interest at heart or not? You seem overly concerned about whether such people love back people or an individual black person or not.
And the sneakiest, most insidious and lethal racism comes from the Left. Like I said.
baldilocks on February 19, 2009 at 1:55 AM
Say what you mean. Don’t blame the rest of the world if you’re too big of a pussy to endure the consequences. If you want to call somebody a “nigger” you should. Speak up or shut up.
Instead you would rather wuss out, post a comment in like-minded company where you’re safe from reproach, then blame political correctness for your fecklessness.
Blacks, whites, men, women, gays, Christians, etc all share the same trait — they can’t hang when people whisper in groups about them.
Once you get over the unavoidable awkwardness of always being honest, dealing with others individually or collectively becomes much easier. The easiest way to be honest about any group with which one might identify is to be brutally honest about one’s self.
Most people aren’t honest with themselves about themselves and therefore unable to effectively ferret out and process the truth about others.
There is no single slur which is more critical of me than I have been of myself.
The Race Card on February 19, 2009 at 2:43 AM
Thank you for some of the more thoughtful & constructive comments left tonight.
Some black people do cringe when this stuff happens. I don’t, because the criminal and thug element don’t represent me any more than a slutty woman would just because we both happened to be women. What does make me sort of cringe though is how so many people on this thread seem to put more emphasis on the fact that they are black than the fact that they are thugs.
You say you will gladly admit that most offenders in mass shootings and postal incidents are white, but is their race your first thought when you hear about those incidents as it seems to be when you hear about these kinds of incidents? Personally, whenever I hear or read about mass shootings or serial killers, my first thoughts are, were there any survivors, the person must be insane, and have they been caught yet.
I do agree that you should not be any more afraid to criticize blacks than you would anyone else and that so called black leaders, other blacks and everyone should be more critical of this type of behavior. In addition to the above mentioned reasons, a large part of the problem is this type of behavior is excused away (Jena 6)and so many are not held accountable for their actions, so there’s no reason for them and others to not keep repeating it.

In a way, it’s nice, indeed heart-warming that young people care so much about sport and are proud enough to defend their team in such a vivid and dangerous way.
Who says apathy is ruining our young?
uptight on February 19, 2009 at 6:16 AM
Which is totally true.
What I would highlight, however, is that much civility comes from our sense of humanness…that is, when you deny someone the fundamental ability to work for themselves (i.e. welfare) they will behave like children, lacking self control. Race has NOTHING to do with it…in the UK, the underclass is predominately white. The violence and crude sexual behavior is the same. Read, “Life at the Bottom,” by Theodore Dalrymple. INCREDIBLE BOOK.
I would say, however, that the US is racist…in that the left willfully denies black people (and now brown), mainly, the ability to work and provide for their families by replacing fathers with the State…all the while promoting sex as a release and targeting them with abortions and sterilization for birth control and population decrease. Sickening. Now THAT is racist.
Mommypundit on February 19, 2009 at 6:47 AM
It has nothing to do with their skin color and everything to do with their culture. Rap tells them it’s cool to be thugs. People give them the excuse that “hey, they’re poor so they have no where to turn to but gangs”. Thug life is considered cool in the black community. Notice that in areas where it’s more integrated you won’t see this nearly as much. That’s because the blacks in those areas aren’t beaten over the head as much with the thug life.
DethMetalCookieMonst on February 19, 2009 at 6:52 AM
That’s quite a leap in assumptions.
My comment referenced nothing about how I speak. It simply referred to what the attitude in America is where name calling is concerned. It was also designed to evoke discussion on the double standard. A double standard that blacks enjoy because of their perceived unequal status in America. If certain black leaders would stop the demand for special treatment while excusing the racism that some blacks engage in, those blacks who buy into the victimization would see themselves as equals. Thus, half the problem is solved.
Concerning this segment of the black community we are discussing, as soon as they are….
“honest with themselves about themselves”
They will be able to…..
“effectively ferret out and process the truth about others.”
That realization is usually the first step toward true conservative ideals and I don’t know of a true conservative who doesn’t feel that way.
csdeven on February 19, 2009 at 7:18 AM
Shocked? Where the hell did you get that? The context of the remark was that there was no surprise in the fact that a riot occurred at a sporting event and blacks were culprits. You are the one that assumed that the same person who wasn’t surprised at blacks starting a riot would also be “shocked” if a white person commits a crime.
Now if you told me that a black went on a shooting spree and killed 32 people, I would be shocked. By your reasoning, that makes me a racist. Usually with PC whores like yourself, you completely ignore the double standard because you secretly want to deny society the obligation to see all peoples as equal.
Hell even the term “racist” is almost exclusively used to describe whites. Equality means equal treatment. So, we either demand terms “red neck”, “O fey”, “cracker”, “whitey” and “racist” be banned, or stop complaining about the use of words like “spook”, “jungle bunny”, “spear chucker” and “nigger”. As long as there are groups in our society that expect special consideration, they will always be less equal than those who do not. This is the tragedy in the way blacks are treated by liberals. Here we are 100 years after slavery and 40 years past the civil rights movement and blacks are still being enslaved by the liberals. The difference now is that the blacks put themselves in chains. The chains of liberalism.

I often don’t any females in there on these kinds of ‘pack attacks’ for lack of a better term, so what is it, a testosterone thing? I’m seriously asking. That coupled with a some lack of common sense to say ‘hey don’t throw a chair across that guys teeth’, might just be all it is.

I don’t see this as a black or white thing.
I played high school hoops. Although I went an almost all white school, we played plenty of mostly black schools (and got our assess whooped usually). But in my 4 years of playing I never once encountered a fight. There was the occasional pushing and shoving, but never anything like this. And this includes tournaments and invitationals.
I see this as just another example in the deterioration of American society. And it affects blacks as much as whites.

I voted for Oslime-a and I get to criticize blacks as vehemently as I choose. I even keep a picture of him in my wallet. He, and these thugs at the BBall game, are the most despicable black skinned people I have ever been exposed to. It is behavior like this that justifies the racist attitude that blacks just don’t have what it takes to lead anything. Of course that is ridiculous, but when Oslime-a is the best they have, it doesn’t bode well for winning over racists.

You think the fight at the game has to do with race. You’re a moron. And a disgusting racist.
Dave Rywall on February 19, 2009 at 7:49 AM
When people are getting killed at sporting events and trampled at Wal Marts you shouldn’t bet the farm, but you shouldn’t be surprised when the culprits happen to be black. The jails are 60% full with blacks and they only comprise 13% of the population. That fact means that blacks are committing a disproportionate amount of the crimes.
But if it makes you feel better to lap up the PC tripe, go right ahead.

Ahh, the racist strikes again. Perhaps you should spend a few seconds examining WHY the majority of your prison population is black. To simply spew out “blacks are committing a disproportionate amount of the crimes” is such a simpleton worldview you could get outdebated by a 10 year old. Congratulations.
Dave Rywall on February 19, 2009 at 7:51 AM
If a person doesn’t, it’s because they have already accepted the reality of the situation. It is only the PC police (a role you are playing right now) who create the atmosphere that we are discussing. If it was an unabashedly accepted that it is no surprise that black youth went on a riot during a bball game, and people like you didn’t criticize people for noticing it, eventually, there would never be discussion about it and blacks would finally receive the equal treatment they have been clamoring for.
So, do your part in treating all people equal. If you don’t get vocal when “whitey” is generalized, then give blacks the same consideration. That will unshackle them from liberalism and give them the power and freedom to expect equal treatment. Only when all blacks understand that they are more than capable to compete (and win) on a level playing field with other human beings will they take their deserved status in society.
It is because liberalism treats them like sub-humans that they turn to violence to make up for that lack in self esteem.

“Is our children learning” is an incredibly ignorant and offensive quote to attach to this story. Hotair should take the high road and remove it. Or stay in the Fox news gutter and leave it. Your choice, Hotait.

Hey moron, the balls of shit that roll out of your mouth are for shipley and the other leftest douches that frequent here.

Great response, racist pig. Go back to 1860 until you can be a human.

Another great insightful comment from a racist with a worldview that fits on the head of a pin. You do realize that people are laughing at you on this site, don’t you? Oh wait – you don’t, because you just don’t get it. If Hotair doesn’t ban you it speaks volumes about them and the kind of scum they’re willing to have damage their reputation.

We are all racists now. Or cowards. Or something.

So Dave, where were you when a bunch of white kids were accused of rape at Duke because they were white?
