Video: The disgraceful yet hypnotic Alabama high school basketbrawl
posted at 9:32 pm on February 18, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m momentarily burned out on politics so you have to suffer with me. Players, fans, kids, adults, men, women, on the court, and in the stands: Everyone’s in on the action in this one. Probably the most insane melee I’ve ever seen at a sporting event — but then, I’m not a fan of English soccer. Eleven people have already been arrested on charges from assault to inciting a riot; trust me when I tell you that when you’re done watching, your only question will be, “Only 11?” Exit question: What’s the precise opposite of this clip in terms of sportsmanship? Exit answer: This.

I point was that it had nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with culture.
Here we have the thug culture. In the UK they have the hulligan culture. Different skin colors, both just as bad.

Whoa people….I have come to this thread late but I am dismayed to be seeing some overtly racist postings!
Please let us understand that this is not a Black issue…this is not an issue about skin color…this is an issue of a problem in a culture….and the good news about that is that that can be fixed…
I am of Irish heritage here in Western Canada…look at the Irish problems of the past…boozing, paddy wagons, wife beating….sectarian violence….but this wasn’t a problem because of our ethnicity…it was a problem which was cultural inside the Irish community….
We must learn to make a dichotomy….
We can be honest about the problems that ail the Black American community but those problems do not stem from ethnicity but are completely cultural…
Let us use wisdom here friends!
Albertanator on February 19, 2009 at 9:05 AM
Ya know, there are reasons why Canada is socialist.
In America, many blacks consider their skin color the basis of their culture. This is the reason why they view any success in America as being based on a system that favors whitey. When in fact, success in America is based on a system of hard work and the entrepreneurial spirit. The liberals encourage the exact opposite in minority communities because they are racists and want to keep minorities “in their place”.

This mess happened at the state tournament, folks. When I attended my small rural Alabama school we knew that our behavior reflected on our school, our community, and our families at events such as this. I guess those values are now passe, at least among the thug contingent of “students.”
And lets remember that real victims of these thugs are the kids who weren’t in the melee. They’re the kids who simply go to school to try to learn, and they’re victimized by these fools every day in countless ways.

People won’t say that a pair of jeans makes their friend look fat. Why in the world would a white person tell a black person what they think about black culture when a)you get screamed at for a racist and shunned like the plague, and b)if they act like the thugs in the video you get beat to a pulp. On the other hand, I’ve gotten yelled at for being white plenty of times without any fear that someone would raise a whimper in my defense. It doesn’t really promote an honest conversation about race no matter what that idiot Holder thinks.

With Bobby Jindhal, Clarence Thomas, and Michael Steele Republicans have demonstrated they are willing to accept minorities who are ideologically aligned, and while you may not be satisfied with that, realize that the Democrats behave in the very same manner.
Minorities that do not conform to the Democrat ideology suffer the same types of attacks, look at how Michelle Malkin has been attacked as both a minority, and a woman by sites like DKOS, Huffpo, and others. You cannot put this all on conservatives when liberals engage in the very same behavior.

EconomicNeocon on February 19, 2009 at 12:36 PM
You’re missing my point. As stated before, I can’t stand PC-nazis. My point is, though, is that it’s the culture (yes, mainly American blacks in it) that’s the problem. It’s not that every black person is like that. Blacks in england don’t talk in ebonics and dress like idiots. All that needs to happen is to change their culture to redicule behavior like that instead of embrasing it. Basically, to do what Bill Cosby told the NAACP.
I make fun of the hip-hop, thug culture all the time, so don’t paint me as some PC-nazi lib.
DethMetalCookieMonst on February 19, 2009 at 12:48 PM
People say we need an honest discussion on race but then examples like this one are immediately taken off the table, because if you mention it you’re labeled a bigot. Cartoons about monkeys are greatly offensive and need to be pointed out as white people being insensitive and racist, but a school full of black kids beating the snot out of each other like wild animals needs to be ignored as not an example of the problems in black culture.

I still like the one about the girls who carried the opposing player around the bases (they played that in a corporate meeting after I saw it online, and I had to look away and focus on the decor to keep myself from tearing up. Not my most professional moment.) but that’s pretty awesome. Very unusual, especially for high school kids.

Pythagoras on February 19, 2009 at 1:38 PM
If a person doesn’t, it’s because they have already accepted the reality of the situation. It is only the PC police (a role you are playing right now) who create the atmosphere that we are discussing. If it was an unabashedly accepted that it is no surprise that black youth went on a riot during a bball game, and people like you didn’t criticize people for noticing it, eventually, there would never be discussion about it and blacks would finally receive the equal treatment they have been clamoring for.
So, do your part in treating all people equal. If you don’t get vocal when “whitey” is generalized, then give blacks the same consideration. That will unshackle them from liberalism and give them the power and freedom to expect equal treatment. Only when all blacks understand that they are more than capable to compete (and win) on a level playing field with other human beings will they take their deserved status in society.
It is because liberalism treats them like sub-humans that they turn to violence to make up for that lack in self esteem.
csdeven on February 19, 2009 at 7:51 AM
I never criticized anyone for noticing. What I meant was there’s a difference between not being surprised at the race in certain incidents, (I wasn’t surprised either)and having your first thought be–I already know what race it’s going to be before I even look. As I stated before, when I hear something about serial killers, who we know are almost all white men, I don’t automatically think oh here’s another crazy white guy out killing women. I think, wow this person must be insane or psychotic or whatever. I’m not surprised when I see that it is indeed a white male, but my first thoughts are about the crime itself and the victim(s). (Exception being when one is giving a description of an offender who is still being sought in a crime. Then, of course the race & sex descriptors should be the first things given)
I am a police officer, but there is nothing pc about me. You don’t know me. You’ve never conversed with me on this site or anywhere else. I am an equal opportunity condemner. What’s wrong is wrong, no matter what race. I don’t generalize about whites either and I call out friends & family when they do it. Having been the police for 22 years in the inner city of Chicago, I know better than most what liberalism has done to blacks. That’s how I became conservative, by witnessing it on a daily basis up close and personal. I strongly believe in criticizing the bad or criminal behavior of anyone who engages in it, regardless of their race. But when race is the first thing that comes to your mind, I think you risk believing that certain behaviors are endemic to certain races and that can be dangerous. I understand that young black males are much more likely to engage in these types of behaviors, but as you and others have already said, that is cultural. It’s the result of liberalism, single mothers and so on. It’s not because they’re black, and when too much focus is placed on race, that’s what many people tend to think.

Esthier on February 19, 2009 at 5:50 PM
OK, now that’s just stupid. This happened at a school. It’s not unfair to make the claim that the education of the children who go to school at a place that can turn into a riot that quickly just might suffer.
What those people did is low class. That has nothing to do with their race, but there’s no reason to pretend it isn’t low class just because they’re black either.

macblanegirl on February 19, 2009 at 6:31 PM
It has to do with their culture and black leadership see skin color and culture as interchangeable. Ergo, by their own words they are condemned.
When black leadership and liberals tell blacks that their identity is to others of the same skin color, you start their communities down the slippery slope of excusing all abhorrent behavior for the sake of “brotherhood”. This creates self loathing and is the genesis of blacks killing each other off and destroying their own communities. It breaks my heart, but it is the truth. Sadly, because I’m conservative, the help I can give an enslaved person is largely ignored.
And then we have “compassionate” so-called “conservatives” who bow under the pressure of political correctness and accuse real conservatives of racism.
csdeven on February 19, 2009 at 6:42 PM
And for everyone who thinks that the European school systems are so much better… I’ll pick Germany and Austria for a second.
Germany: some politicians want to abandon marks on exams. Yes, that’s right, no more As, or Bs or Cs, etc. Some also want to ban the rule of having to repeat a year when you fail in a subject. Also, violence in German schools (usually in those that have been “culturally enriched”, i.e. have a very high amount of immigrants from certain “cultures” (no, not Chinese or Vietnamese, who actually manage to get more children into universities than even the Germans themselves, but rather from the “pan-islamic terror sphere”)) is rising. Not to forget that the schools in Germany drill leftist ideas into the children.
Austria: same thing.
Hooray for the European school system.

I simply applied your vague suggestion to the discussion at hand…….
I think you risk believing that
certain behaviorsriots at bball games are endemic tocertain racesblacks and that can be dangerous.Like I said, most of us are completely capable of recognizing that riots at black bball games is very common and we can still not go to the extent you say we are in danger of. If someone here had actually SAID “all blacks riot” then your point could be made rationally. But no one has in this thread nor in the last 3 years on HA. This is the reason why I questioned you making that comment. That idea had to come from within you and not anyone on this thread. So, I wonder if you are the person with the issues and you are projecting them onto others.

Those asking Allah to close comments, due to ‘racist remarks’ etc…, are simply feeling fatigued as they can no longer deny that Liberal policies have put us where we are today. Especially when it comes to the problems within the Black community. You can’t have ‘equality’ without EQUALITY or ‘a level playing field’ without making the field LEVEL. Liberals want a ‘fairness’ doctrine that’s anything BUT fair. They want ‘level’ playing fields built on slopes. They want ‘equality’ with preferences and quotas. I find it just as ridiculous that they accuse the Conservatives posting here of being ‘racist’ or otherwise having THEIR (Liberal) personality traits. One of the most perfect examples of projection I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve read this entire thread and find it to be impressively civil and polite. I guess that may be due to the examples with which I compare it though. Samples from Huffington Post, Daily Kos, Democratic Underground, NY Times, LA Times, etc… At any rate… Nice work HA posters, minus a few Liberals who refuse to be honest with others OR themselves. And kudos to the HA staff for recognizing sincere discourse where it exists and not choosing to see racism where it doesn’t. Classy.
