I am sorry so sorry for the woman who was the victim of this attack..

But i also do NOT beleive that any SANE person
would have a chimpanzee or a tiger or buffalo as a god darn pet..

thats why we have cats and dogs..
Sheesh this is crazy..
I am sorry but that old woman better try and make this right to the victim..

If thats somehow even remotely possible..

What a mess all because of a woman who lacked
Some common sense

Obviously this woman is insane, and so is the news media for taking this angle of the story. Instead of focusing on the real victim, the woman in the hospital fighting for her life, the choose a stupid chimp. wtf.

<blockquote>Authorities are trying to determine why the chimp, a veteran of TV commercials who could dress himself, drink wine from a glass and use the toilet, suddenly attacked.</blockquote>

It's a <em>wild</em> animal, plain and simple. You can hand raise them, train them, dress em up whatever, they're still wild animals. Anyone who would keep an animal like this as a pet is insane, clueless or both.
Hell, even with domesticated animals you've got to be careful.

"* But if you’re a pet owner, it’s hard not to sympathize a little when she describes having to stab the chimp she raised for 14 years to get him to stop. That’s some kind of emotional transition to make in the span of a few minutes."

But this woman didn't think Travis the Chimp was a pet...she thought he was her baby. A "pet owner" knows the difference a pet is and always will be an animal, no matter what you do you won't change the fact that its a different species and it aint never going to be a human. Treat an animal like its a human ...fine...but don't be surprised when it acts like an animal.

[...] I assume most of you by now have heard about that tragedy with the 15 year old chimpanzee living wit...? Might we not consider this woman completely insane. This is what happens when you humanize animals to the extent we treat them as family members. If need be, cops can shoot a monkey dead…which will prompt PETA to show up and talk about veganism or some other vile brain synapse. Chimps are not human…as if that needs more explaining. Anyway, today the following cartoon was released in the New York Post: [...]

<blockquote>Ok, calling the President a monkey is a bit much, stop with the Far Right humor - it’s not that funny…at all.

What do you call jews?

I give up April, what do you call jews?

What is far right humor April? Lemme take a wide guess, right=racial bigotry and left=racial tolerance and understanding? Is that about right?

If I'm not mistaken, the eugenics movement emerged first among the European socialists and leftist American intellectuals. Nazism is clearly a product of the left, not the right.

For extra points, I don't suppose you want to crack open the Democrat party closet and take a look inside....there's a lot of history....

But nice try.

<blockquote>The smarter the animal the more human people think it is </blockquote>

That you are equating "more human" with "less dangerous" reveals that you are utterly ignorant of human history.

The worst a chimp can think to do is rip your face/arm/testicles off.

That's not even in humankind's top 10.

I'll agree with you that the crack about the white house was over the line, but that's not 'Far Right' humor, sweetheart. The left has been making monkey jokes about President Bush for years; there are websites putting his face with certain expressions, next to a monkey. It's disrespectful, and juvenile; but it's not a 'far right' phenomenon.
As to the chimp story, they need to throw the owner's a** in jail. I just listened to the 911 call on O'Reilly. That operator sounded like he was trying not to laugh. He probably thought it was a gag at first; someone calling about a chimp going beserk; that's probably why he dragged it out, to see if it was real. Terrible story though.

<strong>ITA...that's about my dog's age/definitely out of normal behavior for a Pyr.</strong> Teenager stage; she is as fast as a Border Collie! Thinkin' of agility classes. I wish I could get her on a treadmill! This dog that you wrote about, she was supposed to guard the kid and fool around with it, play and let him do whatever to the Pyr and that did not happen. Poisoned by either coolant or a neurological/gene issue.

My kids play a lot with her, can't ride her b/c of height but I have heard of others who can do this. She does like me to "ride" her backwards!!! Funny! Loves that I wag her tail while I do this and walks so I look like a crab :-O

She came in our lives as a pup with low self-esteem, shy, and I turned her around by wagging her tail, sing to her and bring it up, curly as it is supposed to be. So she got stuck with the move, and won't let me turn around for a forward ride :-D

My gosh I have to supervise b/c kids know no boundaries. I don't want a bite here either. I tell them constantly that a dog is a dog, and does not understand what is going on, so I knock it off if it gets out of hand so she can take a break or turns to me for playtime. DH plays too, and takes her for walks. Knows some commands already and I want to pick up the pace so she does not get bored with same ol'.

I wish I had another one, but I would probably get kicked out of the neighborhood!

I wish I had another one, but I would probably get kicked out of the neighborhood!

I had thought the chimp remark that April who thought it was directed at Obama, was probably directed at Bush. For years the left haters referred to Bush as the "chimp". So much for left wing humor. As for keeping wild animals, I had heard a story where folks lost their little todler to a python snake who perhaps thought the todler was a dog or cat because the child had just petted a dog or cat. Wild animals should be kept away from peoples houses.

Why is everyone going all front & center on this? It's a horrific story and my heart absolutely breaks for all involved. I'm not listening to an effing minute of it. A little respect would not be out of order here.

I am coming in defense of the 9-1-1 operator on this call.

I have been a 9-1-1 operator since 1989, and I have taken calls like this where the first complete sentences are "Send the police! Bring your gun!" You may not realize this, but the operator has, at this point, enough information to send to the police dispatcher via computer that a major incident was occurring - but what exactly, we don't know. The police dispatcher (which you never hear on these news phone calls) dispatch officers, while the 911 operator then continues to gather details as to what exactly is going on. The operator then feeds the newer information to the dispatcher who relays the information to responding officers.
The officers were just told to "bring their guns" to a situation with no other details. THEY want to know for THEIR OWN SAFETY, the details of what is going on. It is also a safety issue for everyone involved, including innocent bystanders.
The 9-1-1 operator was NOT trying to make conversation. He was trying to discern what was going on for the safety of the officers and everyone involved.. It was a screwy, chaotic situation, and us 911 operators would normally expect that this a human-related call. But a Chimp? I don't blame the operator for sounding annoyed. He probably thought the caller was crazy!
Supermangreenlantern, if you were truly a dispatcher for Dallas PD, then I feel sorry for Dallas PD for sending them on missions to investigate "Bring your guns!" calls and not believing some follow up questions would be in order for everyone's safety!

The end result of the Jane Goodall personification of animals. These are wild animals. They are not our pets or friends. But the left keeps telling us that animals have rights and should be treated like humans. So you get a fool like this who lives with a chimp. Wild animals go wild.

My mom and stepdad had a Great Pyrenees. He was about two. He was fine, very sweet, loving and drooly. Then one day, he was being petted, very nicely, on his head by the kid who worked for my contractor. He turned his head and clamped down on the boy's arm. The boy had a heavy jacket on, so nothing happened. Two days later, he turned to chase me. I ran until he ran out of lead. The next day, my mom brought him to her brother's house where he had a huge tract of land to run on. The day after that, my mom called in the morning and he was fine. He was found dead that afternoon. We think he ate something contaminated by Katrina mud and it made him sick or that he had cancer or a brain tumor that started making him wig out. Either way, we never did find out, but we worried as soon as he started being aggressive that he would turn on my nephew or stepdad's elderly parents. Maybe he just snapped; you never know, and they can't talk to tell us.
