Point taken (re the parallel to Lightworker), but I have to say that irrespective of that side issue, golf needs Tiger. The PGA is anticipating a huge fall-off in corporate sponsorships. Tiger draws attention. Personally, I kinda’ go for Phil Mickelson more than Tiger, but I’m not a golfer, just a casual observer. I find Tiger a little sterile in terms of personality, but he sure can play.

Gotta agree with you there. Ross Perot is a certifiable nut job. No offense PopTech, but I wouldnt admit to voting for that nutjob Perot nor would I brag about voting for that sore loser Bob Barr. These 3rd party candidates are NOTHING but spoilers. We have a two party system. Tiger Woods just announced he is going to return to golf.

In announcing his return Brandel Chamblee of The Golf Channel mentioned that with Tiger out the audience for TV golf was the same before Tiger came on the scene in 1996 but with him coming back ‘he brings out everybody, including those not usually paying attention to golf. Does that bring to mind some other superstar we all love and respect?

They aren’t back taxes. She initiated this because she wanted to be in compliance. Also Alaska is pretty unusual that it has it’s state capitol so far away from the state’s population. When you consider how much it would have cost taxpayers for travel when their legislature is not meeting her staying in Wasilla makes much, much more sense.

Anyway, this is a non-story. She wasn’t avoiding the taxes.

then claim he told her no tax was due
so she doesnt have to pay..

Late to this party, and technopeasant makes the point pretty well. For AP to see this set of facts as analogous to those of Geitner and Daschle draws down the credibility of his critique of Gov. Palin. I’m going to have to a lot more skeptical in the future.

For those of you who do not understand how the income tax system works-you are provided raw evidence or retain raw evidence of how much you earned over a calendar year and calculate your income tax based on a set formula.

Secondly you either do your own taxes or you have somebody do your taxes for you. Since Sarah is a governor and high profile I would guess that Sarah pays somebody to prepare her taxes for her.

Now if the preparer makes a mistake the mistake does not redound to the preparer but to the taxpayer herself, namely Sarah Palin. However if something was not deemed to be taxable at the time of preparation, nobody is at fault.

Now we come to the per diem allowance. The MSM brought to the world’s attention that Sarah had a per diem allowance that was not taxed. Sarah thought about it and decided she would call for an inquiry to whether she should pay taxes on it. Cynics may say it was a political move, but folks-bottom line-she faced the issue square on and did the right thing regardless of her motives.

I have compared this to a golfer asking the referree for clarification of the rules or calling a penalty on oneself when one suspects that he may be guilty of a rules infraction. That is what Sarah did. Golfers should be very proud of Sarah.

Recently the inquiry concluded the per diem should have been deemed taxable income and subsequent to that ruling Sarah Palin paid the appropriate taxes.

Sarah Palin DID NOT evade taxes, she was NOT DELINQUENT in paying her taxes. This is not Al Capone, Geitner, or Tom Daschle.

For AP to even imply that Sarah’s case is in the same league as the above three is outrageous but what do you expect from a person who has had it in for the pro-life Christian SP since she was nominated for VP.

So I guess we’re supposed to draw some parallel between this situation and that of the Obama gang. Take Geithner as an example: He was under notice many times that the taxes were owed; He submitted the amount of unpaid taxes for reimbursement and received payment; He claimed his children’s summer camp as a deduction against the advice of his tax consultant; Upon nomination for office he paid only the amount not protected from action by the IRS by the statute of limitations. Contrast that with Palin and every other tax payer — Like Palin I owe taxes and when the amount is calculated, I will pay them. If the time comes when the amount she owes is determined and she fails to pay, by all means let me know. Otherwise, ho-hum.

Exactly MTG. It sounds like the State was not including the per diem on her W2, and then reconsidered. This per diem is part of a job benefit relating to doing the State’s work at home. Working mothers everywhere should be outraged at Allah and others who see this as some sort of corruption. I say, have Allah put up his tax returns to a public fly spec analysis and see how perfect his tax postures are.

She is an economic illiterate because she does not understand economics. Alaska has huge energy reserves that the state gets tax money from, the run up in prices over the last year and Palin raising oil taxes overflowed the state coffers. Wanting to increase access to our own energy supplies is fine but the same economic illiterates think this will make us “energy independent” which is laughable. Wanting to do something and understanding why you are doing it are two different things. Energy independence is a myth.

Strangely enough in what he intends to be read as a put down Taylor has identified the factor that sets her apart from the rest of the herd and the reason why he has to make this comment four months after “accepted wisdom” would suggest that the VP nomination of a losing POTUS candidate should have been consigned to the dustbin of history.
The fact is that many conservative pundits find it more attractive to stay on the sidelines shaking their heads and complaining about the specks in other people’s eyes. Most of them are simply paid to pontificate but they have never run an organisation that impacts on the lives of ordinary people and has to be responsive to their wishes and the checks and balances of external factors. Sometimes the Palins and the Thatchers and the Reagans have to compromise and do things that go against the grain. Most ordinary folk recognise the pressures of reality and will accept it on trust as long as they feel that it is done with a servant’s heart. The fact that any post on here that has to do with Palin generates so much comment is proof enough.
The Governor might eventually decide not to run for national office in 2012. However, be assured that nobody else can run the Republican ticket without her endorsement….

If you listen to Glenn Beck, at all, you can delete Mexico off the list as “our friend” if she truly does fall into a “narco-state”. I think that’s what he and some of his guests call it. Venezuela is definitely not an ally at this time with the parrot dictator, Chavez. It’s pretty much Oh, Canada and they get a little twitchy, sometimes, on being treated as the red-headed step-child of the U.S.

Palin is really the only one pushing for energy independence. Everyone else on both sides of the aisle are just giving it lip service.

We only get about 12% of our oil from Saudi Arabia, when you exclude Mexico and Canada we get around 17% from over seas sources. We can easily replace that by tapping our own sources and by helping our northern and southern friends.
