Video: Megyn Kelly outrageously outraged at PETA’s lesbian ad

posted at 5:35 pm on February 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’ve watched this three times and still can’t pinpoint what her problem is. That it’s titillating? That it’s same-sex (which is surely what’s offending some of the complaining viewers)? That PETA thinks vegetarians are sexy and meat-eaters are the “scum of the earth”? The critique seems to shift minute by minute — but no matter. She’s developed such a knack for the righteously indignant, needlessly combative interview that I’ll be shocked if she doesn’t have her own show by the end of the year. Maybe the 3 p.m. slot in lieu of Shep or the 10 p.m. in lieu of Greta? Whichever it is, she should follow Olby’s lead and book nothing but liberals, the loonier the better so that we’re assured plenty of verbal grenade-tossing. Imagine an hour each day of Killer here throwing roundhouses at whatever target Fox places in front of her. Awesome.

If the latter, one might argue that she’s trying to titillate her audience too to get attention.

Allahpundit on February 17, 2009 at 6:03 PM

Subtlety is the serious difference here though. Until she starts throwing open her legs and licking her lips during interviews, it’s a little unfair to compare the two.

Esthier on February 17, 2009 at 6:20 PM

Having seen a fair share of PETA protests in Atlanta (home of the Yerkes Primate Research Center), PETA members do not look like that IRL.

Techie on February 17, 2009 at 6:20 PM

Sigh. My point wasn’t that there’s nothing to be upset about it, it was that I can’t figure out which element seems to be upsetting her. She hops from one point to the next. Is it the fact that the ad’s risque, gay, or something else that bugs her?

Allahpundit on February 17, 2009 at 5:57 PM

Heavy sigh..offensive, that’s the point. Offensively out of place in a public venue. The discussion ebbed, but I got her point.

eaglesdontflock on February 17, 2009 at 6:21 PM

PETA is one of the reasons why I am no longer a vegetarian.

I’m sorry but Megyn Kelly, one of the more beautiful, sexy and yes “titillating” anchors on television. An anchor on the Fox network which has some of the most sexually titillating programs in TV history. Is actually fixing her mouth to hate on someone else using sex to sell themselves. Puhleeze

Look, before anyone shouts me down as a sexist. If you’re into skinny blonde girls (I’m not) than Megyn Kelly is an absolute ten and for anyone to pretend that her job as a TV anchor is unrelated to her smoking hotness is being purposefully dumb. Her faux outrage here is actually kind of offensive to women who don’t have her job because they aren’t as good looking to the Fox demographic as she is. Whatever Megyn, it’s time to look in the mirror.

I don’t know why you all are dissing on Megyn Kelly. I completely got it, and I’m sure others do to. Megyn is someone who says what most normal Americans are thinking. What PETA does in their ads is not appropriate. They try and convince people that eating meat is not good by showing porn. Come on???

bdeitrich on February 17, 2009 at 6:27 PM

Oh, and doesn’t eating meat increase size of females’ breasts? Better lovers my ass.

YoungAmerican on February 17, 2009 at 6:28 PM

Also worth noting: Many’s the winter day in NYC, with the temperature well below freezing, that I’ve tuned into FNC to find Kelly in a very mini miniskirt. Did she wear that to work, pray tell, or is it wardrobe meant to show off her legs? If the latter, one might argue that she’s trying to titillate her audience too to get attention.

Allahpundit on February 17, 2009 at 6:03 PM

Last I checked, miniskirts were acceptable attire in public. Bras and panties were not.

Where are you going with this Allah? Blurring the lines? Equivalency? Is killing a dog the same as killing a human?

When did I say hot women can’t have opinions? I said she’s being a grade A hypocrite. Her TV career is directly related to the perception by the producers that she’s sexually titillating to a wide male demographic. She would not be in that particular job if she were homely. And so for her to be all “how dare you use sex to sell” is just…hollow. Now on any other issue let her rail away. But to choose this? Lame and hypocritical.

Did PETA do a big media buy for the ad? They probably don’t have the money. They hope that someone like Megyn will give it a little free air time and then YouTube can get it out to more eyeballs than paid commercial time ever could.

The outrageous and outraged can’t live without one another.

You’re saying that because she’s attactive, it’s hypocritical for her to comment or be offended by the ad. So yes, you’re saying that because she’s attractive she shouldn’t express an opinion on the matter.

You might have a point if she did her segment wearing a bikini and finished every show with some pole dancing, but as it stands, you don’t.

The fast food line. The only commercial I know of that did the whole “sex sells” thing is the Paris Hilton one and that got blasted by damn near everyone.

As far as Victoria Secret, the whole point of linguire (sp?) is to be sexy and tittelating. However, the point of PETA is to say eating meat is bad, not to show was to dress sexy for your partner.

As for bra commercials, you have to show bras in order to sell them.

DethMetalCookieMonst on February 17, 2009 at 6:50 PM

DeathToMediaHacks on February 17, 2009 at 6:24 PM

Er, they all do it and sluttiness is not the sole possession of one party.

It’s still substance that matters. I can’t imagine Greta in a mini-skirt, skinny as she is. Nor am I an outdated grandma who demands nuns’ attire for reporters. One just notices these things. Brains always shine through, one way or another. There’s a place and time for everything. Reading prompters doesn’t necessitate much. Being faux ‘outraged’ doesn’t either.

dedalus on February 17, 2009 at 6:46 PM

No question that good looks are a huge bonus to getting a TV news gig. That’s not the fault of those who make the cut, or the TV execs that hire them. It’s because given the choice, people would rather watch attractive people read the news than unattractive people.

However it does still take talent, and no one could credibly suggest that Meygn Kelly is a mindless bimbo who can’t pull her own weight. Attractive though she is, few are going to watch if she did a poor job.

That she looks good on TV (without being overtly sexual) should hardly preclude her from expressing an opinion regarding an ad featuring scantily clad women making out.

Hollowpoint on February 17, 2009 at 7:00 PM

Now I know why PETA wants to expose Sarah Palin. Not only do they want to protect predator wolves who randomly kill prey and end the serving of turkey on Thanksgiving, they also want to ensure that Todd Palin is not impotent after he reaches 60 and that he is not grossly overweight. Todd, according to PETA, must become a vegetarian.

I bet Todd Palin never knew that PETA cared so much for his welfare and that PETA was so concerned that Sarah receive the full complement of Todd’s love after he nears retirement.

What I find offensive is PETA tying every disease and problem in the world (including global warming) to people eating meat.
Mark Levin talked about this the other night. It’s only a matter of time before the govt. starts to either heavily tax meat consumption and/or meat producers for our own good or the good of the planet.

Me, I go by the saying “if God didn’t want us eating animals he wouldn’t have made them out of meat”

Did you ever notice that whenever moonbats “debate,” they constantly switch back and forth from self-congratulatory hedonists into 16th-Century Quakers?

PETA expands its purview from advocating medical experimentation on humans to advocating homosexuality to children. When somebody questions them about it, how do they respond?

“[Gasp!] I can see thine ankles… SILENCE, HARLOT!”

DeathToMediaHacks on February 17, 2009 at 8:06 PM

I think the problem has with PETA is they have been doing the sex thing for some time now and it is getting tedious and over the line (intentionally over the line to get air time). Megan mentions the Super Bowl ad that women are scrubbing vegetables on themselves in lingerie (it was banned). They have also had the no fur adds showing people like Pamela Anderson with as much skin in the right places as they can get away with. They even have had the good looking women in bikinis in cages with cat make-up on I have seen downtown or on campus. They really have parted ways with their other tactics as this is the only way to get attention long enough to sell their talking points. You notice the PETA chick is trying desperately to get out her “impotent men” message and “good sex” message. They have been doing this for a while I guess because we all know if they were just doing the complaining thing about cruelty we couldn’t get away fast enough. If you really think about it they are doing an end justifies the means thing and to me it is starting to piss me off because offending people isn’t justified because you have an opinion on meat products. Titillating guys I could care less about but let’s keep it to adults and voluntary ones at that not billboard signs and Super Bowl ads.

Conan on February 17, 2009 at 8:16 PM

The sad part is AP that I don’t think an hour would be enough time to cover all the material.

Alec Baldwin is a vegan. Nuff said.

Glynn on February 17, 2009 at 8:06 PM

So much for the theory that vegans are thinner.

forgetfulmuse on February 17, 2009 at 8:31 PM

And have you ever noticed that when folks on your side of the aisle are called out for hypocrisy everything gets super personal, super fast?
DeathToMediaHacks on February 17, 2009 at 8:06 PM

Hehe. Anyone who has any standards at all is automatically branded a “hypocrite” — because WE don’t meet the asinine standards that THEY make up for us on a purely ad hoc basis.

And then – to top it all off – the libtards claim that their constant shrieks of “hypocrisy” are a purely logical and objective attack.

But as incredibly stupid as that obviously is, there’s actually a circular logic to it. As long as the libtards publicly pride themselves on being utter reprobates, it’s absolutely impossible for any liberal to ever be guilty of the sole sin their religion recognizes: hypocrisy.

In other words, in their own minds, liberals aren’t just absolved of sin — they are utterly incapable of it. That’s why we have to keep in mind that the liberals’ greatest weakness is also their greatest strength. The fanatics of all other religions are susceptible to self-doubt, but no liberals ever is — not for a second.

One of my favorite phrases:

If we’re not supposed to eat animals, why are they made of MEAT?

:-)

cannonball on February 17, 2009 at 8:36 PM

I have to comment on this without viewing the add because my two young children are in the room and I don’t want them to see it.

I’m betting that Megyn is upset about the blatent sex dripping from the ad. It is just another example of the over-sexification of our society. FOr crying outloud, even Paula and Kara played kissy kiss on American Idol a couple of weeks ago. There is simply NO NEED for so much blatant sex on television, hetero or homo. This, combined with the CSI-ification of violence on television is completely desensitizing our children for absolutely no need other than ad revenue. It sucks.

Dude, I have no issue with Vegetarians until they start talking about, and making an issue of being a vegetarian.

Geronimo on February 17, 2009 at 8:23 PM

Well that’s the whole damned point though, isn’t it?

If any normal person doesn’t like meat – he just doesn’t eat meat. Only a self-righteous jackass would find it necessary to proclaim to the world that he’s a “vegetarian.”

Everything has to be a lifestyle with liberals. No liberal can ever just HAVE an eating disorder, or religious intolerance, or a sexual fetish. A liberal has to BE a Vegan, or BE an atheist, or BE a homosexual… He must build an entire way of life around perversion — and then try to force the rest of the world to warp around him. It’s the ultimate exercise of power solely for the sake of exercising power.

If were not suppose to eat meat why don’t we have the mouth of a herbivore?

I could easily live with that lineup. I have HES (Hannity Exhaustion Syndrome) and could live without him.

OmahaConservative on February 17, 2009 at 9:02 PM

I suppose it’s better than the “bucket of blood” stint they were doing outside of a kfc. Although if i was walking down the street with my kids in tow and ran into that, i would have to duck into the nearest store and get a large container of very cold water and cool em off…meanspirited or fun loving activism??

As for Megyn i think she always looks classy, if she is wearing a short skirt she always pairs it with a non revealing top ( i’ve never seen her look slutty or overmade up). Sometimes she’s a bit over the top but at least she is always interesting.

Swaydo on February 17, 2009 at 9:08 PM

Damn, now I’m hungry for some red meat. Show where the kitchen is, but don’t let it play with the fire cause it might get burnt… before I get to ummmmm……

RalphyBoy on February 17, 2009 at 9:11 PM

Megyn Kelly makes me wish I was a lesbian. ….What????
*slopes off*

Fortunata on February 17, 2009 at 9:13 PM

My first thought:

Some street vendor should have set up his hot dog cart there. Dinner and a show… free enterprise at work.

malclave on February 17, 2009 at 9:14 PM

I always enjoy seeing the lovely Megyn Kelly outrageously outraged.

OmahaConservative on February 17, 2009 at 9:32 PM

What the heck? I live here and I missed it?

TinMan13 on February 17, 2009 at 9:34 PM

PUMA Dem opinion!

I am such a (gay male) feminist, and I use this in the most liberal sense of the word. Vegetarianism is fine with me since I can still go out with my veggie friends to the same restaurant (and it’s always LOL! when they eat, oh, cheese pizza or deep fried garbage because there’s no meat in it!). It’s the vegans I can’t stand.

PETA cross the border into crazy vegan land. And no one really cares about the animal sensitivity ads. It’s gross, it’s sick, but it’s not like it’s aired every time you order a hamburger.

This lame attempt to sell sex as a means to get people to “go vegan!” (“vegetarian” they say — but PETA folks are more vegan than anything) just gets my goat.

They actually put animals before people — women! I can get the outrage, and for me it’s not about “LESBIANS!!! HOMOSEXUALS!!! AIIIEEE!” It’s about the fact that such an enlightened group of people decide to trade one piece of “red meat” for another — and their spokeswoman is totally supportive of this!

Giving a little visual ass gets some men a little more receptive to the idea of giving up a little meat?

I can understand Megyn’s irritation. And to all those naysayers saying Megyn’s a “hypocrite” because she’s “hot,” I’m sure she knows a lot more about gender-based sexual exploitation in media than any drive-by HA commenter. Woman is not oblivious to this.

“Liberals” such as PETA who would exploit people and appeal to humans’ most base instincts to get their message across while crying about curbing our own instincts to — y’know — eat meat absolutely send me near the brink.

That’s my peace. Spoken.
