What should be used to counter that is the county by county red/blue map. If you look at that map, I’d say the airwaves reflect what is of interest to the public. something not out of date by 4 years.

Conservative radio works because it has an audience....Americans at work.

Liberal radio doesn't work because it's potential audience is split between "The View", MTV, BET, Oprah and the Cartoon Network.

Why is NPR supposed to be treated or considered differently? My God, how many NPR stations are there? Press wants to make some distinction about commercial radio and just keep blinders on a about taxpayer funded public radio.
And the fact that radio stations don't pay anything for the frequencies that they are assigned gets under his craw. Never mind that there have never been fees charged for spots on the radio dial. It just burns his ass that something goes untaxed.
What a loathsome tool.

A good remedy for this would be for Rush and Hannity etc to buy up Satellite radio and move their programs there. I hear that Satellite is doing poorly so they could probably get a good deal. Not only would this be an excellent way to protect our 1st amendment rights but would be out of the reach of the Libs. I would be more than happy to go out and buy one of Satellite radios if it screwed over the Dems plan to infringe on my rights.

TV stations have the same "public interest" character as radio stations, so let's insist on "fair and balanced" programming on network television; we evaluate the political spin of prime time TV dramas, and if there's too much liberal spin (as there always will be) we insist on conservative script writers. Same with the Internet: if the hits on Daily Kos and Huffpo exceed those of conservative sites, let's insist that they carry conservative opinions equal time.

Of course, they'll never agree to it, but that's because the arguments they're raising are flat-out lies. They're doing this to silence Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Quinn and Rose, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, etc. But if they start seriously planning "equal time" for radio, I'm going to start ratcheting up "equal time" for TV and the internet, really, really loudly.

Cable and newspapers wouldn't come under purview of anything like that because they are private enterprise, and do not need any stupid federal license.

The only reason they can wrap their hands around broadcast radio and tv is that the FCC owns the airwaves.

The internet is kind of on the fence, currently on the side of newspapers and cable, but if say DSL lines get nationalized they can push for it.

Mr. Press brought a knife and Ms. Kelly brought a bazooka.

That happens when you're the dissenting guest at a Fox show.

Take away her ability to forcibly cut him off and watch any advantage melt away.

Pardonme but this so called "fairness doctrine" assumes that it will bring about something that is FAIR. Has anyone else ever questioned this word FAIR? Can it be defined in a manner that is acceptable to all? Perhaps our esteemed politicians who use the word so freely on the floor of the House and Senate can once and for all define FAIR and give it legal force so that when FAIR is used in a discussion it will be unassailable. While you are at it please also provide a definition for the word EQUAL so that it is also unquestionable.

[...] Megyn Kelly can beat me up anytime…as long as it’s not over the Fairness Doctrine. Bill Press feels the sting of this anchorchick’s pimphand. Ed Morrissey sums things up for your quick consumption: Second biggest laugh: Press won’t apply the Fairness Doctrine to NPR. He wants government dictating content to commercial radio stations, but not to government-subsidized radio stations. Huh? [...]

Here's what I love about this clip. Press says the Portland, Oregon has seen a huge success in progressive talk. And he's right. But then he turns around and says companies are attempting to suppress liberal talk.

Does Press know who owns the liberal station (KPOJ) in Portland? It happens to be Clear Channel, the same people who own the conservative station in Portland. They also happen to own more radio stations than any other company in the country. Clearly they're not attempting to silence liberal talk radio.

That guy keep proving Megan's point over and over again -- yet he's too dumb (or more likely simply refuses) to realize it.

And he also says he doesn't want Government running the stations - but with the 'fairness doctrine' that is exactly what will be going on.

I wonder if he would like the 'Fair and Balanced' doctrine to be applied to NPR (also supposed to operate in the 'public interest' or the network news (also supposed to operate int he 'public interest'). Funny how he leaves those out.
