Obama: Passing this crap sandwich is a “major milestone”
posted at 12:35 pm on February 14, 2009 by Allahpundit
Ain’t it the truth, as is his warning near the end that “This historic step won’t be the end of what we do to turn our economy around, but rather the beginning.” WaPo’s already anticipating Stimulus II, in fact, presumably to follow hot on the heels of TARP III. And all this while he’s planning to, er, balance the budget. Reminds me of one of those physics problems where water’s pouring into a sink at a certain rate and you have to figure out how big the drain needs to be to keep the sink from overflowing. How do you calculate that for Niagara Falls?
John Pitney did the back-of-the-envelope math and figures that Congress spent about a million dollars per second during the course of deliberation on the bill. As for this latest fireside chat from The One, I’ll leave you with two quotes as a right-wing rebuttal. First, Veronique de Rugy, making a long, long laundry list of the less stimulative bits of the alleged stimulus:
It’s a terrible bill, in other words, both on its face and in the details. For the reasons I detailed here, it won’t stimulate the economy. It violates many of President Obama’s promises. Most of the deals that created it were made behind closed doors, meaning that there is virtually zero transparency and no real way to track where, how, or why money is being spent. On top of that, the bill is still packed with items that any vaguely impartial observer would call pork.
And David Frum, sharing a lesson he learned the hard way:
After 9/11, President Bush (supported by me, among others) argued that the right way to respond to a terrorist attack from Afghanistan was by overthrowing Saddam Hussein. We offered a complicated explanation for this roundabout response, and for a time the public accepted it. But as the war went wrong, and failed to deliver the promised results, our plan’s credibility collapsed.
Now the Democrats have placed themselves in a similar situation. They are offering an indirect answer to an immediate question. The suspicion arises that they had decided the answer long before the crisis ever materialized—that they are using the crisis as an excuse to do what they had long wished to do anyway, for reasons that they are not stating in full.

I doubt it. Obama is the first cult-like figure to occupy the oval office since … well … forever.
Study the psychology of cults. The cultists are immune to rational criticism. For example, say a cult leader prophesizes that the world will end in one year and the members of the cult quit their jobs, sell all of their belongings, build shelters stocked with emergency rations to survive the armageddon and generally turn their lives upside down to anticipation of the prophesy. Now, a year goes by and on the predicted date, nothing happens. One would think the members of the cult would turn on their leader; but they don’t.
Instead they rationalize away the failure of the prophesy. It was their devotion to their leader that thwarted armageddon. Or maybe it was their leader’s mystical powers. In any case, studies have shown that, contrary to what you may think, the cult leader does not lose his or her standing from a failed prophesy.
And that’s because cultists get their sense of identity and purpose by simply being a member of that cult. And thus it will be with Obama, I’m afraid. His cult-like following is NOT going to swayed by a failure to improve the economy. That will failure will ascribed to Bush or the Republicans or the filthy rich who have thwarted the magnificent plans of The One.
Do you really expect people like Julio or Henrietta to turn on Obama? That would mean admitting the Republicans and the conservatives and Rush Limbaugh were right all along. There’s no way they’ll do that in 2012. The media is similarly in the same boat with Obama – some because they too are cultists and some because their credibility is now tied up with The One. So in 2012, no matter what the world and economic situation, they’ll back him to hilt just like they did in 2008.
So armed with a enthusiastic group of volunteers, a compliant media, a large chestful of cash, and the reins of political power, I find it extremely unlikely that Obama will lose in 2012 no matter what his situation.

I think this spending bill, along with all the other measures that have been and will be taken over the next couple of years are going to so totally destroy the US economy that he will have a very hard time winning election. A lot of people got on Rush for saying he hopes Obama fails, acting as if that meant that Rush doesn’t love this country. In fact, it was quite the opposite. He was hoping to have us avoid this pain that Obama’s policies are about to bring. If Obama had decided to govern from the center, we might have had a few painful years and then a strong recovery, but by piling on all this useless debt and government bureaucracy, we are looking at a lost decade of economic growth.

I’m looking forward to the day all of my family (except my parents and brother) have to apologize for what they’ve done. All in the name of history and the color of his skin. Still don’t know a thing about him.
I’ve already predicted that he will the last for a long time. Jerk (not you, him).

Someone please tell me when The One finds any time to manage the affairs of the office.
He has been president for three and a half weeks and already:
–He has spent countless hours on television with his weekly address, press conference, bill signings.
–He has had a couple of cocktail parties.
–He has had a Superbowl party.
–He has spent a weekend at Camp David, presumably to “unwind”
–He has taken AF-1 to Illinois twice, Florida and Indiana for what amounts to nothing more than post-election campaigning.
–Along with Mrs. The One, escaped from the pressures of the White House to read stories to schoolchildren. (“They let us out!”)
–And now he is “decompressing” back home in Chicago–for the entire weekend.
Don’t forget that he starts his day 2 hours later than GWB, and he delegated the task of writing his own stimulus bill in much the same manner as his second autobiography.

If we’re still in a deep recession or God help us a depression, there’s no way Obama wins re-election. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls an LBJ and just walks away after one term.
As dumb and out-of-touch as these Washington elites are, even they have to know this “stimulus” bill won’t do a damn thing to help the economy. They’re hoping it corrects itself by 2010(or worst case scenario 2012) and that’ll be enough to placate the voters.
That word, “hope”, pretty much sums up Obama and the Democrat Congress in a nutshell. They have no clue what the hell they’re doing. They just hope everything works out. And if not, hope they can pin it on Bush and the drive-bys and the public play along.
Doughboy on February 14, 2009 at 2:23 PM
Therefore, the task is to force a depression.
BobMbx on February 14, 2009 at 2:27 PM
This is altogether possible. He is a narcissist of the highest order, and once he is exposed, he may very well walk away from the office lashing out at everyone who “thwarted his attempts to save America.”
IrishEi on February 14, 2009 at 2:28 PM
The 13 bucks a week is not for the entire year. It starts a short while from now and runs through the end of 2009. If you take however many weeks it’ll run and multiply it by $13, that’s where the $400 comes from.
And even though it will run for the entirety of 2010, the amount goes down to 8 bucks a week which when multiplied by 52 weeks comes out to approximately 400 bucks.
Either way, $400(or $800 when my fiancee’s rebate is included) won’t do much for the average American household. Most people will likely pay a few bills. Not what I’d call stimulus.

Barack Obama is a Fabian socialist. I should know; I was raised by one. My Grandfather worked as a union machinist for Ingersoll Rand (nyse: IR – news – people ) during the day. In the evenings he tended bar and read books. After his funeral, I went back home and started working my way through his library, starting with T.W. Arnold’s The Folklore of Capitalism. This was my introduction to the Fabian socialists.
Arnold taught me to question everyone–my president, my priest and my parents. Well, almost everyone. I wasn’t supposed to question the Fabian intellectuals themselves. That’s the Fabian MO, relentless cultural and journalistic attacks on everything that is, and then a hard pitch for the hope of what might be.
That’s Obama’s world.
He’s telling the truth when he says that he doesn’t agree with Bill Ayers’ violent bombing tactics, but it’s a tactical disagreement. Why use dynamite when mass media and community organizing work so much better? Who needs Molotov when you’ve got Saul Alinski?

Thanks Doughboy. I was assuming a straight calendar year. What was I thinking. My assumption was based on something normal as opposed to the workings of Obama’s abnormal congress.
Personally $400 spread out over a year is essentially worthless — epsecially if it involves the Feds. They already tried the $600 and that did not work.
$2000 (for a single) would be more to my liking.

He’s been getting out of the ‘office’ quite a lot. In the past 8 days he flew out five times.

The problem is the marginal tax rate. Tax cuts stimulate by encouraging people to earn more and be more productive. A tax credit doesn’t carry this incentive, and, when said tax credit actually gets smaller the more you earn, it does the opposite.
I’m not normally for a flat tax, but I don’t see any other way of keeping the politicians from screwing things up.

You all do realize that come Monday, we’ll see the MSM reporting how much better our economy has already gotten in just a short time. I believe Monday will bring rainbows and kittens to everyone!

It wasn’t the cult that put him over the top. Most of those cult members wouldn’t have voted our way with a gun to their heads anyway. What put him over the top were the people who like omg just like wanted to make history and stuff.

What is strange is that I have not received one email or one argument from the Obama fans I know regarding this bill. It’s strangely quiet. Even they can’t defend it.

No matter what happens, many of these silly new programs will be here to stay, forever. In one broad stroke, liberals have permanently altered the American landscape. Government will forever be the monkey on the back of the American worker.
southsideironworks on February 14, 2009 at 4:35 PM
The problem there is if Wall Street and Main Street are singing a different tune, it don’t matter what the drive-bys or Dems say. It’s hard to put a positive spin on an unemployment rate of 7.6% and rising or a Dow below 8,000 and sinking.
Doughboy on February 14, 2009 at 4:44 PM
Obama and his cult followers need to do the honorable thing and drink their own Kool Aid ala Jim Jones and his cult in 1978

Obama will become a billionaire – he will have access to all the billions he stole from the US taxpayer. He will do book & movie deals and probably buy a house in Malibu.
izoneguy on February 14, 2009 at 4:57 PM
The market will go in the shitter on Tuesday. It will probably get down in the 4000 area by September. By then it will be full blown depression and Obama will be talking about “Stim u lie II”
izoneguy on February 14, 2009 at 4:59 PM
Never say never. A slash & burn reformer is needed and they should not be politically correct. Unless America’s favor a new ruler from the East then it must be done.

Since America died the other day I will just be staying in more and “clinging bitterly to my religion and guns!”

I didn’t copy your whole post, but it was right on; This is Barry’s FIRST month and he’s shown us what a man-child he is and how he’s not about to let this whole, “presidency thing” get in the way of his “regular life”. I shudder to think of how he’ll handle his first real emergency- I guess after he finishes his workouts and happy hour, he’ll have Axelrod tell him what to say, er- have Axelrod print it out on a teleprompter, and he’ll deliver the speech….as long as it doesn’t interfere with any of his week-end plans, or watching the play offs, or getting his weekly mani-pedi. (Oh come on! you know he gets ‘em!)
