Flashback: Obama promises to allow five days of public comment before signing bills
posted at 8:20 pm on February 14, 2009 by Allahpundit
An oldie but goodie courtesy of aptly-named commenter “democratslied.” The final draft of the stimulus was posted on the White House website for comment Friday afternoon. Word came down today that The One plans to sign it on Tuesday. You do the math. Politifact already busted him for breaking this promise, in fact, when he signed SCHIP before the five-day waiting period had expired. But who cares? It was a sham promise from the moment it escaped his lips. Does anyone seriously believe some commenter’s going to deter him from signing New Deal II when weeks’ worth of angry phone calls to Congress haven’t? This is the sort of empty gesture that means a lot to people who don’t pay much attention to politics but want to “feel good” about government again — in other words, to the average Obama cultist. Note to The One: If you really give a wet dump about transparency, try relaxing your manufactured “emergency” deadlines so that our representatives can read a trillion-dollar spending bill before they vote on it.

I’d argue the opposite–if this bill is so time-critical, why not sign it immediately? We all know it’s junk, and it’ll be junk 5 days from now. Congress could have worked to improve Porkulus for three more days.
The economy is crumbling and our President is taking victory laps? Obamamateur hour, indeed.

Who gives a shit. The only reason this bill exists is because of three Repubs–three Repubs who are gloating and remain in the party.
Repubs have once again dropped the ball fiscally, as they have for eight years. Until these three are thrown out of the party, like the cancer cells they are, there is no hope for Repubs. Face it, the only hope Repubs have is that the Dems f’k up worse. Boy there’s a campaign motto.

Obama meant “days” in the sense that they were used in the Bible… undefined.
5 Obama days equals only half of an Earth day.
Because Barry moves so much faster than the rest of us.
Next question?
profitsbeard on February 14, 2009 at 9:19 PM
One more thing, folks, and mark my words.
Barry doesn’t care whether or not if he’s a one term president. One term or two, his life is made – in spades. The Dems threw in their support for this buffoon because the time was ripe. Barry could win. But in the long run Barry is inconsequential. His win only meant that liberal Dems could gain control of all branches of government. That’s why Barry is POTUS. Pelosi, Reid, et al could give a rat’s ass, nor could Barry.
See what’s happened here?
Our country is great because it was always meant to be the antithesis of Europe, and yet Liberal Dems are making sure that we lose and revert to everything that our founding fathers eschewed.
This is a concerted effort to turn back time and make the greatest experiment in human endeavor fail.

I believe there is a strange dichotomy of views and promises.
On one hand, Obamateur said this crapulous has to happen NOW! NOW! Or the nation will collapse! Yet he decides to wait until the regular work week to make certain that everyone can see his awesomeness as he signs-off on the death of America. Too many people not paying attention during the weekend.
On the other hand, he said he would allow public viewing of bills before he signed them but is going to break the promise.
Perhaps this is just a strategic move by a man-god who knows better than the rest of us.
Bishop on February 14, 2009 at 9:30 PM
You’re right, Bishop.
If it were an emergency, he would have stayed in D.C., but, hey, what’s a little logic?
This bill has been passed, unread in its entirety by anyone I would guess. It will be signed, still unread in its entirety by anyone. Somewhere, somehow, that sounds unconstitutional to me.

INC on February 14, 2009 at 9:32 PM
Tell you what, as I read more of the analysis of what this bill is going to do to us, where our national finances are headed, it scares the shiite out of me. The national health care provision with our medical records entering a federal data-base and having a government clerk decide on treatment options….gawd, think how they can control people simply by threatening to withhold care or expose medical data.
As an aside, I visited two gun stores today and they were doing record business, at least that’s what I gathered from the wall to wall customers.

Has anyone else wondered why most of them voted on it without reading it? Could it be that they know that most of it will never be carried out? Look at the amnesty bill. They didn’t read that one either and it was huge and full of BS. Also, the 1986 amnesty that was supposed to solve all of our problems didn’t get enforced.
Exactly who sees to it that the tax cuts happen? The spending? Any of it….

Bishop, it’s overwhelming. At this point we must hope there will be multiple court challenges and that some sections will be rolled out so badly and clumsily that they will be subsequently trashed. It’s going to take an overhaul of the American mind to do so.
INC on February 14, 2009 at 9:40 PM
Pelosi and Reid twisting arms. It’s hard to believe only 7 Democrats had consciences and even of those, I wonder how many had “permission” to vote against it because it would pass anyway.
I can’t remember the number, but somewhere I read that about 5 are facing tough campaigns next year.
INC on February 14, 2009 at 9:42 PM
Of course, it’s a strategic move. It could have been handled in a different manner, but Pelosi altered procedures to do things differently and in an undemocratic manner.
This is our money. And in my heart I have to hope that there are enough Americans who will revolt and say, “No More!” Unfortunately, like the UK, we are being cowed into submission by bully tactics and obsessive PC dictates. If anyone wants to see what the US will look like in a few years, look at England and weep. What a disgrace…. a country that is ashamed of itself and everything that it ever accomplished. End games. And all at the hands of socialism, fascism and bored billionaires like Soros.
Cody1991 on February 14, 2009 at 9:44 PM
One question I have…if this was such an emergency, the country was going to collapse without this bill and Obama was calling for the house and senate to pass this thing so fast nobody could possibly read the thing…why is he waiting to sign it into law…time is wasting…good god man, how many more Americans have become homeless and forced to eat cat food since last night? How many more before Tues? If this was an emergency you’d think he would have been waiting in the Oval Office for an out of breath assistant to run it over from the hill…right?

Good question. I have a few questions for DTMH who is woefully ignorant with regard to economic affairs. And that is, as an African American, do you receive a monthly stipend from Jesse Jackson or any of the other shake-down artists? What do you receive from his efforts in extracting millions of dollars from American companies? What effect does that have on shareholder equity, and how many pensions hold stock in those companies? What is Jesse Jackson’s net worth, and how does that relate to you as a liberal Dem (or whatever you are) and an African American? How do his efforts and those of other liberal Dems benefit the American public at large? Do you consider yourself to be part of the American public, or do you consider yourself to be a protected group? How will you benefit from increased taxes if you are actually a tax payer? Maybe you’re not.
Your answer to all of the above is expected.
