Flashback: Obama promises to allow five days of public comment before signing bills
posted at 8:20 pm on February 14, 2009 by Allahpundit
An oldie but goodie courtesy of aptly-named commenter “democratslied.” The final draft of the stimulus was posted on the White House website for comment Friday afternoon. Word came down today that The One plans to sign it on Tuesday. You do the math. Politifact already busted him for breaking this promise, in fact, when he signed SCHIP before the five-day waiting period had expired. But who cares? It was a sham promise from the moment it escaped his lips. Does anyone seriously believe some commenter’s going to deter him from signing New Deal II when weeks’ worth of angry phone calls to Congress haven’t? This is the sort of empty gesture that means a lot to people who don’t pay much attention to politics but want to “feel good” about government again — in other words, to the average Obama cultist. Note to The One: If you really give a wet dump about transparency, try relaxing your manufactured “emergency” deadlines so that our representatives can read a trillion-dollar spending bill before they vote on it.

Someone got a link on how many lies he’s told so far?

Will there even be any sort of military left once He’s done?
I’m taking another trip down to Costa Rica on March 1st. While you guys are locking and loading, I’m gonna check out some real estate down there. Never in my life did I think I’d say that or want to leave this great country.

My fear is, we will start having serious military recruiting problems. No one is going to sign up for this douche! And all of our current soldiers are not going to re-enlist. This is going to be awful…

Hey Mojo, give me an address, I’m sick of the cold here in Chicago. Tents work for me!

This “presidency” will be known as the “Oh….Shit!!” presidency.
The people who voted for him will be wondering what the hell is happening while others hunker down.
In less than a month, president “Shuck-and-Jive” has shown us what to expect….. nothing. He’s on permanent vacation, campaign mode (which is what Pelosi wants), legislators pay no attention to the electorate, and we are left on our own to deal with the consequences.

If it does hit the fan, our military are sworn to uphold the constitution. They take their orders from the POTUS unless or until he defies it. Not to mention the military consist of our husbands, brothers, neighbors, daughters and so on. Loyalty will be an interesting issue when their loved ones are in danger here at home.

Disturb the Universe on February 15, 2009 at 12:00 AM
The thing that would precipitate your scenario wouldn’t as much be a decision by any one or any group. It would probably come about because of an attack or complete civilian chaos that’s coming ie food shortages, energy/utility shortages and the like. That’s where the question of loyalty will come up. When orders are given to the military to act against American civilians, what will the majority of them do?

But are we really in a huge economic crisis or a manufactured one? I know that jobs are being lost and my investments are going down the crapper, but I don’t know of anyone in the Chicago area that’s actually lost their job or knows someone who has, and no one is behind in their association fee’s in the complex I manage and live in.
This so called “emergency situation” doesn’t seem nearly as bad as what we went thru in 1980-1982. Maybe I’ve got my blinders on……or my head in the sand.

This is deliberately in contrast to another oath that was to the head of state.

As much as I would love to bust his chops on this he covered his own butt.
His promise say NON EMERGENCY legislation and in the first few paragraphs of the bill this is defined as a piece of emergency legislation.
The real issue here is that his crack WH web team has been forever finally figuring out how to work with the website from inside the WH because of security restrictions on the interior networks.
Looks like they gave up and are using a web development team outside the WH to finally get the site working just last week.
They couldn’t get the Lilly Ledbetter law or Delay of Digital TV up in time , but the fools then put them up for comment AFTER they were signed into law. DUH!

Could liberals claim that Obama hasn’t broken his promise?
Uhm, not really. A “day” is 24 hours.
Clearly The BILL passed “LATE” Friday night, can not be a counted as a “24 hr day”
Same for Tuesday.
However, The point of the 5 day waiting period was for Obama AND “The People” to read AND Comment on the bill.
Presumably Obama had not read the Bill and has not decided if he will or will not sigh ANY Bill, He is asking for your input on the Bill.
Clearly Obama, by stating he “WILL” sigh this Bill on Tuesday.
This tells us YOUR input/comment is not wanted, respected OR needed, and has NO bearing on this Bill or any other Bill.
White House Web Allow five days of public comment before signing bills
To reduce bills rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them, Obama “will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.”

I find it curious that everytime I turn on the news, I see a report on where Obama is having dinner, or who he is having over for cocktails, or which teen idol is coming to the Whitehouse to entertain the girls. Is Obama somehow under the impression that this is just a four year, taxpayer funded party for him? Since when is the Presidency supposed to be looked upon as a 40 hour work week?

Amen to that. This thing was a big emergency. BIG. Well? Where TF is he? He’s out shopping with his freakin wife taking weekends off. Well, just sit by and watch another power rise up then. We, the U.S., can’t afford to be slacking like this.
He’d also better get a feel for what happened with two satellites colliding and what will happen when the telecom systems go down if they go down as a reult.
Well, big emergency. Here we are. All sitting in our homes waiting. People losing jobs daily.
Oh and by the way, my bailed out bank, just cancelled some of its services to the customers.
recall, Bush sat up all night waiting to help Terry Shievo’s case. That was an emergency and treated as such. The outcome sucked, but still that how you act in an emergency. You dont go on a weekend holiday shopping spree and brag how big a President you are.

Im not sure what the big deal on S-chip is, this bill has been in congress for months and months. As for the stimulus bill I’m not sure how you could be uneducated about the bill after wall to wall coverage of the bill from rightwing and leftwing perspectives. The whole bill is on the internet and people can read it. “Im not sure what the big deal on S-chip is, this bill has been in congress for months and months”
Try this, No one believes it will really work and therefore no one is willing to use taxpayer’s dollars to pay for it.
After all, if it were a GOOD program, that will HELP Children, wouldn’t ALL Americans WANT TO PAY FOR THAT?
Now Obama sighed it with “it will be paid for by a cigarette tax”
Really?
What mathematically challenged mental midget can’t figure out that the number of smokers is going down and the number of children is going up.
Even Jethro Bodine could figure this one out, there not going to be enough smokers to fund this program, and the program won’t die, therefore you and I will have to fund it.
Simple basic honesty is what I expect from Obama, and on this he failed to deliver.
. “As for the stimulus bill I’m not sure how you could be uneducated about the bill after wall to wall coverage of the bill from rightwing and leftwing perspectives”
Uhm the bill wasn’t written till Friday night. How could you be educated a bill you have not read?

yadayada
Who EXACTLY asked for it
Where EXACTLY is this money going to be spent.
What EXACTLY is this money going to be spent on.
Who where and what is what Obama PROMISED we would see BEFORE he sighed on anything.
There are thousands of pages with things like the above.
Bottom line the bill in total, IS NOT ON LINE.
What is on line does not give enough info to make ANY judgment about it.
. “The whole bill is on the internet and people can read it. The 5 days number was a foolish benchmark and he shouldn’t have issued it because now he looks dumb for violating the letter of the law, but the spirit is maintained.”

Pardonme but when are we going to learn how to listen to the words Pres Obama uses? He is more clever than Clinton ever hoped to be with his: “it depends on what the meaning of is, is”. Obama can not help himself. For instance, look at how he says he will save OR create 4 million jobs. At the end of the day he gets to do the counting not us. When they tells us that we created X number of jobs, he will tell us he also SAVED X + 4 million jobs and we will not be able to dispute the number. Clever, you bet!
Pardonme on February 16, 2009 at 11:16 AM
From what I see, “His Emptiness” is not really in charge of anything, yet. Answering questions from a tele-prompter? The “Campaigner in Chief” has to have some one answer the questions for him and send it to the tele-prompter.
Who is really standing in for the U.S. Presidency? Plain to see it’s not Obama.
